apologies if someone started subject already (couldn't find it anywhere), but after what is set to be the busiest season in our history, ron has set up another game in the us at the end of it to play man citeh...clearly a way of paying the bills with FFP, but at what price?

I love his quote about the players 'loving to go to the US'...yeah I bet they're delighted at the prospect of going out there when they're knackered and just want to start a well earned break/or get ready to play internationals...

what a non-event too...can't see either team giving a toss and it being a glorified training session...what thrills

I wouldn't begrudge the players going out and walking around for 90 minutes after the season they've just had, insane amount of fixtures.

As some have said, this match is beyond ridiculous and shows just how out of touch on reality the board truly is... Its a baseball stadium in St. Louis in early summer. Guaranteed to be at least 90F with 90% humidity. Oh did I mention this is in the second month of a 5 month season for a baseball team?

Any American living outside of St. Louis stupid enough to travel there should not complain when they watch an under 21 squad. This is probably more ridiculous as the idiot USNT playing through that snowstorm in my city last week.

Wake up Roman, sign Jose and just step aside and let him do what he does best. He will sack these worthless people while you just sit in your box and applaud...

What a complete waste of time. The board truly are clueless.

I bet if the players are loving this, another game to think about on top of the ridiculous amount we already have had this season.

I can imagine it now, Mata plays, he twists his knee in a funny angle, he's then out for 9 months  :face_palm:  I'll have nightmares about this for weeks now.

I think you guys are over stating the negative possibilities.  The international market is essential and the USA is the biggest and probably fastest growing market this side the pacific.  Plus we aren't going to see Hazard and Mata trotted out for 90 minutes, it will be a good chance to give some fringe players sime game time before they go on vacation.  Perhaps re-asses loanees.  Do you guys think City are about to send out a bunch of hatchet men?  Their invovlement just highlights the necessities of matches like this.  It comes with the big wages.

Yes but i, like many fans, couldn't give a damn about that. They are not going to travel to London every week to watch us so i couldn't really give a damn about the support from over there. Support from other countries is nice of course but these days clubs seem to care more about gaining fans overseas than the fans from here in England.

I'm from another country and I have been going over to home and away games since 94,Many off my friends have been going over since the 80s travelling non stop on a boat,it's a lot harder then coming out your front door and jumping on the tube to go to a game and cheaper I've been at the bridge with less then 18000 and I'm not a fan of day trippers at the bridge to be honest I hate it but I don't think Americans have the time or money to travel over everyweek. It's easier when it's on your doorstep Scott. Sadly football has changed and I think for the worse bit I know what you mean.

Our players are over-paid, seasoned athletes. One extra game isn't going to hurt. If they don't like it they can quit and get a 9-5 office job like me and get Easter weekend off.

Gourlay is still a c*** though.

If it was a game against a All star Chinese XI picked by Singha Beer to commemorate their anniversary I'd understand.

But this..

I agree. Also, I wonder if FSW will still be in charge as he will still be in contract

I agree our players being paid massive amounts so they can handle a friendly. The club needs to make money to cover the operation and the salaries. Good for the americans as well. They get to see the Champions of Europe once more.

One game at the end of a season with no International matches is no problem and the club  needs to keep growing on the world market,so I cant be slating the board on this occasion.

It's the timing and the circumstances, i.e. at the end of one of the longest seasons of football in our history.

We have a whole pre-season to enhance the 'global brand'...... *sigh*

Ridiculous decision.

exactly, those people defending it saying we need to grow the brand, that's what pre-season tours are for...we were in the us last summer before this season started ffs...I understand the pressure is on to balance the books as much as poss, but I fail to see how this one game, after a horrendous fixture list where we have played more games than anyone in europe, can really be that beneficial financially and can only be a bad thing for an already knackered squad

Lol. Professional athletes go through more stress than you do pushing pens and papers.

Getting paid a sh*tload more doesn't make it any easier.

I still see no harm in this. Both teams after a long season and will definetly play a young line-up with semi-intensity. If the tickets went in 20mins looks like it is a success for the club and the fans in America. It is a friendly so treat it like one.
