I've been worried this transfer was on the cards for a while tbh.

I still think Cech is better but to let this young prospect go would be a terrible decision. 

 

Its a problem for us. 

 

The question is; Do we still want (arguably) the best goalkeeper in the premier league for a few more years, or (arguably) the best young and upcoming goalkeeper in the game? 

 

For me, in an ideal world we would offload Cech for a nice figure and bring Courtois in at the end of the season. He is another young "hot" Belgian prospect and since we are building our future on some of these young Belgians (Haz, Rom, KDB) I think it might be worth doing just to help secure the other Belgians future at Chelsea.

There is a lot of talking about what Courtois wants and what he intends to do in that article without so much as a quote from his mother.  An article to unsettle a Barcelona target in a Catalan newspaper?  Well I never.  He's contracted to us until 2016, and we don't need the money.   

Yeah, its no real surprise to see Barcelonas mouthpiece spouting sh*te as usual. Don't believe a word of it.

I have not seen any evidence that shows he is a better keeper. Cech has been incredibly consistent for years now and if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Cech has been a fantastic player for us, and it would pain me to see such a club legend leave us. But without wearing any tinted glasses, courtois is now a better goalkeeper and a better long term prospect for us. He consistently produces game-saving performances. Cech will have to be replaced at some stage in the near future, and if he's willing to take a back seat like cuidicini did, then i'm all for it. but i can't see that happening, so i'd rather offload him now for a decent sum and bring Courtois in as our goalkeeper, since he will likely be our first choice keeper for the next 10+ years

Cortouis aint a better keeper, specs or not.

 

I'd rather keep him comfy and made sure he was happy, right here a Chelsea.

I would like to see Cortouis on loan to a PL club for year, preferably one with a reasonable defence, as I know the lad has put in some fantastic performances for AM but I not too sure how hard he is tested week in week out.

Agreed, the only ones who seem to think Cech is still better is CFC fans. Can hardly blame them though, as he has been a fantastic servent to the club.

I thought Reina was lined up for a free transfer at the end of the season to Barca and the only reason he didn't move this summer is because Valdes changed his mind about leaving.

 

 

As for Courtois, highest rated goalkeeper in the Spainish league and only 21 years old, Barca are going to have to break the record fee paid for a goalkeeper to get close to signing him which was around £42m that Juventus paid for Buffon back in 2001. 

Cech is a great keeper,Courtois is a great keeper in the making,what a lovely position to be in.Trust Jose to make the right call come the end of the season.It will be a sad day indeed when Cechs reign comes to an end,but what a replacement!

In their article about courtois to barca, the catalan newspaper 'sport' basically says that the potential move was discussing during the villa to atletico negotiations.

 

It just shows how baseless this rumour is, if you take into consideration atletico have fukk all say in the matter

Cech is anything but overrated. 

 

Sublime goalkeeper. 

Blue tinted glasses or not, I still think Petr Cech is the best goalkeeper around. Even after a career threatening injury. Not that I don't rate Courtois I just agree with previously said statements; if it ain't broke...

We have to in the very near future address the Cech/Courtois problem.  Cech has been very consistant and we haven't really had a need to have another decent keeper on the books. Keepers are known for the longevity and there is no reason to suggest otherwise with Petr though his head injury may always play a part in at what time he calls it a day. As for Courtois , he has all the makings of a top class keeper, ideally he should have had this year on loan with a premiership side. He is a young lad who has already moved country and is now settled in Spain, our problem will be more convincing him to uproot again and given our treatment of Lukaku and KDB (whether right or wrong, these young lads are bound to talk whilst on international duty) a move to Barcelona may seem attractive to him. This summer is a big year in his career and possibly then or never to appear in a blue shirt.

Next season, after the World Cup, Courtois returns to his parent club (us) and has to contend with Cech to be the #1.

 

When Cech arrived at Chelsea as a 21/22 year old he had to dislodge one of the most inform goalkeepers in the Premier League to be our first choice.

 

He did that and 10 years later no one has got close to replacing him.

 

Courtois if he is up to the challenge and is good enough can come in and compete to be our goalkeeper.

 

Not much of a problem if you ask me, more like a wonderful luxury to have two brilliant goalkeepers at your club.

Not really. Was just saying its not as grey or white and you cant really say one is def better then the other. Was poorly formumated..

If Cortouis, who was voted the best goalkeeper in Spain, really is one the best and wants to prove then why should he shy away from competing for a first team place against another competent goalkeeper. 

 

And is Hart really rated as one of the Premier Leagues best goalkeepers? I don't think so, he had one very good season when City won the title but has shown no consistency since, I wouldn't put him in the top three best keepers in the league, maybe even top five.

 

He got a lot of plaudits for that one good season and some people/journalists have hung onto that but I would say for the most part for two years now fans and pundits have questioned his ability.
