Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

Quick question

Is any other club linked with costa?! If he's as good as meny people make him out to be surely were not the only ones in for him

He was linked with Arsenal a while back and a couple of others but apparently we have had an agreement in place with Atletico since around January.

Ha ha!  You sound like me when I win an auction on ebay!  "why didn't anyone else bid that high...is it because it's crap?"!

I wouldn't want Fabregas at Chelsea. Too old bring in someone younger.

Looking forward to seeing Costa and Lukaku terrorising defences.

Hes 27. How is that too old?

27 is at a footballers peak age.

Don't let Torres fool you.

Drogba was at his best remember at that age.

27 is never too old to sign a player, he only just turned 27 as well. Drogba was only a year younger when he joined us and look how well that worked for us.

So if Athletico are selling us Luis and Costa, do they expect Courtois in return?

I did wonder this myself, it could help ease the pain of having to lose two important players although ideally we get him back starting for us next season.

Expectation is different to reality.

It's also much more sensible to buy a world class 27-year-old in his prime than to fritter away millions on teenagers who might, at some point in the future, be good enough to play for us.

I have a feeling that everybody who thinks "Cesc" is too old probably feels that way because he has been relevant for over 10 years.  They forget that he was 16 when he joined Arsenal

Im wondering how they feel about Modric joining us. Is he too old as well?

Sky Sports News understands Chelsea expect to sign Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid by Tuesday.

The Spain striker has already passed a medical and Chelsea have met the £32m buyout clause in his contract.

Costa has also directed Atletico to accept the offer and our sources have told us that Chelsea are determined to get the deal done before the start of the World Cup - so that he can concentrate on the tournament.

"Chelsea have made an offer to Atletico Madrid in compliance with the buyout terms in Diego Costa's contract, and have been advised that the player has provided notice to Atletico Madrid invoking the buyout clause and directing the club to accept Chelsea's offer," said a club.

"Chelsea look forward to entering into formal transfer documentation with Atletico Madrid as soon as possible so that the player can concentrate on the World Cup."

The Brazil-born forward scored 36 goals in 52 games last season as he helped Atletico win the La Liga title for the first time since 1996 and reach the final of the Champions League.

Costa limped off after just nine minutes in the final in Lisbon which was won by city rivals Real but the 25-year old is fit again and training with Spain ahead of the tournament in Brazil.

This all sounds a bit like Suarez moving to arsenal last summer...the buy-out clause has been met but does that initiate an automatic sale?! Strange to have a medical and then not sign the player promptly after. Don't some transfers happen before a medical is passed and that ends up being the "final" part of the deal...Really wish we'd give Lukaku a run in the team before buying new

Sorry but I am not convinced. When Jose has discussed our strikers he has complained that we don't have a quick incisive player who can create a gap and get a shot off, like aguero or falcao. Costa is not that sort of player at all, he is big and strong and likes a bit of a scrap. He is not quick but he holds it up well and very strong when it matters, a bit like didier.

He is a bit like ba but more skilful, and yes he got 32 goals last season but previous couple years not great

So for 32m I think he is a gamble, and I would prefer to bring in someone else and keep lukaku

Hed be one of the fastest players in our team.

I have never seen a CB beat him for pace, even with the ball in his feet

Getting so much wrong in one post is very impressive.

I'm not sure on Costa either however it seems he is comfortably the best and most realistic striker for us to get. I'd love to know who you would prefer to bring in because there isnt anyone out there realistically we can get who is better than Costa.
