Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

Wow so much bickering in here, its disgusting. The guy who made up the quote should be punished really.

Anyway, it is too early for the I told you so's and I will wait to do so at season's end, but your worries should be at least leveled out a bit. Costa is the real deal, have no worries my friends!!!

Also I am sad to hear that our legend DD is out for so many months.

I believe he's been banned.  And Didi is out for a couple of weeks we think, not months.  It was a fake account on Twitter that started that rumour.

For the record I feel many posters on here will openly say they were wrong about Costa and gladly will be happy that they were wrong. A sure fire mix of Dixon, Hasselbaink, Finneston, Hutchinson and Drogba with a touch of Speedie's temperament.

Diego Costa: I owe Chelsea fans an apology

Diego Costa will be introduced to Chelsea supporters at Stamford Bridge for the first time tonight and his immediate plan is to apologise to them.

It is just over three months since Costa last appeared in SW6 but back then he was helping Atletico Madrid knock Chelsea out of the Champions League semi-finals.

The 25-year-old ignored the boos from the fans to strike home a vital penalty to put Atletico 2-1 ahead on the night (they went on to win 3-1) and quash the dreams of Jose Mourinho’s men.

It is that ability to cope under intense pressure, plus an unerring knack of finding the net on a regular basis — he scored 36 goals for Atletico last term — that persuaded Mourinho to make him Chelsea’s biggest summer buy at £32million.

Tonight many Chelsea supporters will get to see him wearing blue as the club play their last pre-season friendly to Real Sociedad and he is desperate to make amends for ruining their hopes of European glory in April.

He said: “Now I can say I’m really sorry for the part I played in the game we won at Stamford Bridge. I remember the atmosphere and the passion of the supporters. They stayed right until the end, getting behind their team, even though it was unlikely they could win after we scored two quick goals. I liked that.

“I hope my actions on the pitch and my feet will do the talking and then people can decide if I’m a good player or not, if I’m improving or not. All I can say is I love playing hard and fairly.

“I love playing at a high intensity and, hopefully, that can rub off on some of our players. I just want to become better and, hopefully, I can do that here.

“Joining was an easy decision for me. We have some of the best players in the world, the best manager in the world and it’s a club with great history.

“I want to improve, not only as a player but as an individual, and I believe this is the perfect place for me to do that. That’s the reason I chose Chelsea and why I want to defend this shirt.”

Chelsea will certainly hope that having the Spanish international playing for, rather than against, them will ensure they don’t miss out on silverware for a second season in a row.

The lack of a top-class centre-forward also cost them in the Premier League as they finished just four points behind champions Manchester City.

But having already started playing games alongside talented team-mates such as Eden Hazard and fellow summer signing Cesc Fabregas, Costa is convinced Chelsea can aim for the Quadruple in this campaign.

He added: “We have an outstanding squad and, if we can all stick together, pull in the same direction and remain focused, I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t be going to the final stages and fighting for every trophy available.”

Costa has already made a good impression in the friendlies he’s played so far, including two fine goals against Olimpija Ljubljana and Fenerbahce.

Nothing to apologise for Diego.

He worked hard for his team and gave his all, that's what football is about.

Looking forward to seeing him tonight!

The thing that impresses me most thus far is his fighting spirit.

We need someone who will lead the line and bark orders, getting guys like Hazard who can be a bit lazy, to up their game at all times.

Yeah I hope he screams at guys like Oscar and Rambo when they aint delivering...who in their right minds wouldnt do as that scary mental case ordered? lol

The relationship both he and Cesc seem to be developing will be a joy to watch this season IMO, looks like the time spend with Spain has given them an extra something.

He's apologizing for knocking us out last season? How Bizarre, that's the sort of thing you'd expect the Dippers to force one of their signings to do.

This is what Drogba did for years and Torres couldn't even for 50 million. We will all look back in 5 years and say "Diego Costa 32 Million' what a bargain that was.

Looks impressive in pre-season, but let's wait until the real season starts before we make our judgements.

Real season, those games he played looked at times that it was war not friendlies, Alves anyone.

As long as there is no Furlong or Fleck involved in the mix.

My thoughts exactly... Someone needs to teach him the english mentality

Just in case he is reading :) ....... Look forward son, keep doing what you're doing. Give 100% all the time and don't cheat, you will be just fine by us.

Mbh if I remember correctly didn't Glenn Hoddle make Furlong our most expensive signing ever at a shade over 2 million :) he scored plenty for Birmingham after he left us and had a long career to a ripe old age regularly hitting the back of the net. Arrrg Fleck the only player to have a song 1to 11 about him ( Perhaps we should follow suit with Torres !)

Well looks like him and Mario Balotelli are different types of hot heads, Mario seems a lot more careless where Costa seems more responsible for his actions and more passionate.

Didn't need to say sorry and even if it is all bull sh*t it is very good to see, I think he is going to fit in perfectly here, just as long as he doesn't go to far with his aggression. I'm talking about Luis Suarez style, I know he wont be biting people but I wouldn't want him being completely classless on the pitch such as spitting or anything like that but I do admire his passion and aggression in the game and that is more than welcome right now.

Robert Fleck the only striker that was out scored by any defender, why even Vinnie Jones outscored him. Fleck's record 3 in 48, these new fans we have should have been around in those days, different tune they would be singing today I am sure.

Yes the next big hope who scored 13 in 59 starts & 26 sub appearances, a little better than Fleck

I love it how people were saying we dont provide through balls for our strikers, and that Costa will struggle because of it like Torres.

Turns out, our striker actually has to make those runs . . . funnily enough.

It's what a lot of people have said all along, similar reasons why Eto'o was more effective last year.

You could probably find really old posts highlighting how woeful his movement is inside the box dating back to 2011/2012 season.

It's really exciting watching Costa pre-season - knock on wood!

Fleck was awful and although he wasn't expensive David Mitchell is still the worst centre forward i've ever seen.

I see no reason why this man should apologise for playing well against us last season. He was giving his all for the club he was playing for. Anybody who bears a grudge over that is an idiot.

I've been very impressed with his pre season. I can definitely see him smashing them in left and right in the season. We could have a golden boot contender here. A serious one at that.

Loved that Ramires looked like one of the world's best playmakers feeding Costa for that first goal.

Costa may not score as many as a lot will like, but he'll at least be making meaningful runs instead of hugging the inside right position.

I can't wait to see his reaction scoring a late winner away from home. Would love nothing more than a 1-0 win at Burnley with a 89th minute Costa goal. That should get him in the mood nicely for this season.
