Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

3-0 up and he was still running after every single ball until the final whistle. He seems annoyed if he doesn't score and that's a brilliant attitude for a striker to have.

Possibly the most natural goal scorer I have seen play for Chelsea in my 20 years supporting the club.

Such instinctive movement and intelligent finishing.

Superb player.

First I thought dixon but he was gone before that, so I'll say that the only other one is vialli

I would say crespo is ahead of Costa for clinical finishing, but Costas overall game is better.

I would discount Crespo on the grounds that he didn't play enough. In terms of all round player Costa is not as good as Drogba however I would agree he is a more clinical finisher. However I would actually say that Jimmy was more clinical than either of them.

Only played about 30 games in two years didn't he? Never had a real run of games for us so it's hard to include him.

Hasselbaink is the other player who springs to mind for me, very natural finisher too but Costa has just impressed so much.

Good shout... Crespos first touch and finishing probably a bit better, better in the air as well. Costas strength and work rate is superior and both there movement is fantastic

The thing about Costa that I loved was summed up against West ham.. Some one hit a poor pass out to the right flank, Costa had no chance of beating the defender to it, most in the striker club would have there hands in the air moaning, Costa didn't even give the situation a second thought, straight after it... Deserves every goal he gets

That's why I was so shocked he tried to square it back to Hazard today. Fully expected him to boot it into the back of the net

Very out of character for Costa, especially as the shot was the better option given Hazard's run was being tracked.

Sometimes it's nice knowing you've got a team player on your hands but in that instance I think we would have prefered the selfishness.

Despite that his head didn't go down and his goal showed a lot of confidence especially with taking the extra touch and striking across the goal.

The player Costa reminds me of is Vialli, and not even the Vialli that joined Chelsea, but Vialli in his prime.

Costa is a perfect fit for Chelsea, as was Luca, because he's not only a great player and a great scorer, but it's his attitude that defines him, his never-say-die attitude.

He has flair mixed in with a bit of devil, and that's what we've always loved at Chelsea ..

Passion.

I had the misfortune of watching the game today with Tony Gale commentating, constantly moaning in the first-half about Costa, complaining about his positioning out on the flank, complaining that he always wanted to cut inside before shooting, saying he lacked confidence.

In short, not understanding the player at all.

Costa's movement is exemplary, about as good as I've seen, that's why chances will always fall his way, but he only pulls the trigger when he's in a position to score, unlike a lot of strikers, Torres for example, who would often shoot from ridiculous positions.

There are strikers more extravagantly gifted, there are faster strikers, there are better finishers, but I wouldn't swap this guy for any of them.

He's a team player, first and foremost, he stretches the defence, he pulls the defender wide, he plays off the shoulder, he's constantly moving, constantly fighting, constantly being a menace, and constantly looking to score.

I absolutely love him. He's what we've been crying out for for ages. We were a bit too nice, now we're not, because we have this guy on our side.

Before we had a striker everybody laughed at, now we've got a striker everybody respects. There couldn't be a bigger contrast, in the way they carry themselves.

There's an old saying, "When the going gets tough the tough get going", well I want to see this boy when it starts getting tough.

If there's one player I can confidently predict won't go missing, it is he.

Socks rolled down, five o'clock shadow, unruly hair, well worn face.

How can you not love the guy?

You can't, is the simple answer.

Just watching his goal from Today, it's a superb finish, absolutely of the highest quality the way he reverses the shot.

Fair enough about crespos lack of games for us, but the games be did play showed his quality and I loved his directness and lack of faff when a chance was there. No messing, bang shot at goal. And he had lovely hair, and cried when we won the league. so sod you all .

Yeah definitely top 5 hair of all time

Certainly dragged us into the game yesterday, led by example and got stuck in at every opportunity which seemed to raise those around him. Scored a great goal to boot!

I'd say Crespo had the best movement of any striker I've seen at this club (in my time) but Costa is lethal in the box. Love that he's unafraid to just smack the ball, but can also add a bit of finesse to his shots.

It's a blessing to have his attitude, it really is when we have been putting up with that scardy cat Torres for years. Costa just relishes a fight.

My only criticism on Costa is that he gives the ball away far too much, very annoying on the counter attack, I rarely like to see him on the build up play these days. However he does have a good amount of flair about him doesn't he, we've seen that few times now when he has just flew past players like he did at the end.

He should hit over 20 goals by the end of the season, that is fantastic to be honest, been a while since we've had a player hit that in the league I believe?

Last time was Drogba I think wasnt it

I think it was Drogba, that season though didn't we have about 3 goals scorers with over 20 goals? Not sure about in the league though, I know in the league we had Drogba 29 and Lampard 22 or 23 I believe. I'm sure Anelka and Malouda would of had a good amount that season.

He's a great finisher. I always thought Anelka was clinical as well. Shot too much but generally could be relied on to put away his chances.

Jimmy was a great finisher as well. The thing that seperates Costa and Drogba is the other play. The chasing, the movement off the ball. Costa is a top top player who has made all the difference. Hats off to Jose and Emenalo for getting him in.
