High and Low Points of the Season?

Featured Replies

It's been a bizarre season for us and this is a place to reflect the good, the bad, and the insane. Despite all that has happened and our lack of silverware we've actually had some good moments.

High Points

  • We almost defeated Bayern Munich with ten men on the pitch.
  • We hammered Arsenal 6 - 0 at Stamford Bridge. We came agonizingly close to inflicting Arsene Wenger's heaviest ever Premier League defeat on his 1000th game in charge of Arsenal. Couldn't write it really.
  • Arguably our game-of-the-season: beating a rampant Manchester City at the Etihad.
  • Putting four past Tottenham.
  • Putting three past Manchester United.
  • Demba Ba's goal against Paris Saint-Germain.
  • Reaching the Semi-Final stage of the Champion's League. Becoming one of the only English teams to reach three European Semi-Finals in a row.
  • Putting two past Liverpool at Anfield, potentially destroying their title dreams in the process (check back in a week's time!)
  • The signing (re-signing) of Nemanja Matic.
  • Andre Schurrle has been something of a revelation, but still an incomplete article.
  • Eden Hazard's hattrick against Newcastle.
  • We've finished in a higher position in the league than we did last season.

  • Above all, consider this. We are UNBEATEN against Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham - collectively amassing TWENTY FOUR points against them. Big game mentality? Damn right.

Low Points

  • Losing to Bayern Munich in the Super Cup after conceding an equalizer in the dying moments of an heroic display.
  • Losing to Sunderland in the Capital One Cup.
  • Losing to countless relegation fodder at home and on the road. Games that if won or at least drawn may well have won us the Premier League.
  • Ramires's meltdown against Aston Villa, and Sunderland... and Bayern Munich...
  • Our strikers have drawn yet another blank.
  • The manner in which we lost to Atletico Madrid and the tears that followed.

High point city away low point a piss poor performance wednesday night. That's about it, dropping points is the way it goes but as fans we want at least a good performance. Putting 6 past arsenal was also sweet and last Sunday aswell. More highs then lows

Highest point of the season for me was the win against PSG.

Lowest point for me has to be the selling of Juan Mata. Even if it was for the good of the club, it didn't stop me being incredibly sad and frustrated that my favourite player was not just sold, but sold to a direct rival, and that he wanted to go.

So many high points. Not been a bad season really. Just wondering, what do you mean by the manner we lost to Atletico?

I mean it was a game of two halves. We completely turned off in the second half and let in goals that we normally would not, on such a big occasion especially. The fight sagged out of us after Atletico equalized I felt.

Winning at Anfield would have been the highlight for me if it had put us top, instead Dare to Demba in the CL Quarter Final trumps it, the 6-0 wasn't a bad day either.

The loss at Villa was probably the low point. Was just starting to believe we'd do it and then Foy f**ked us over.

High Points:

  • Our record against the big sides this season and our performances especially against City away and Liverpool away
  • Eden Hazard
  • Matic
  • Azpi
  • Some of Willian performances
  • Mourinho 2 digs this season at Jamie Redknapp
  • Ba goal against PSG
  • Terry Cahill partnership ( our defence on a whole too)

Low Points:

  • Selling Juan Mata
  • Watching Ba and Torres
  • KDB not getting more chances and eventually being sold
  • Our record against the lower teams
  • Ivanovic going past the halfway line
  • Van Ginkel injury
  • No trophies
  • Ref performances at Villa away, Sunderland at home

think the low point is so obvious TROPHY-LESS

but more high points than low,

and we have now bought our own luxury merc people carrier here at the west glasgow chelsea supporters club

travel in style

After the fiasco of last season, no lows only highs for me. The return of a proper football manager with a genuine affinity for Chelsea. Roman appearing to have finally tempered his interference and impatience. The realisation, at last, of the entire football watching world that our lack of a world class striker is our Achilles Heel.

High points:

- arsenal home

- man city away

- pool away

- Matic

Low points

- losing to villa

- then palace

- then Sunderland

- 2nd consecutive European super cup loss

its  A mickey mouse trophy. Surely being knocked out the CL semi final was worse

High :

Beating all the top sides with ease home and away.

CL semi finals.

Joses first game back at home.

Low points :

Being unable to break down lower league sides.

Having to cheer on City because the other option is horrible.

Seeing Ash crying.

I'd definitely have the 4-3 game at Sunderland as a high point. Eden Hazard gave one of the finest individual performances I've ever seen that night. Simply unstoppable.

Highs:

- Getting JM back.

- Getting JT back.

- Strong PL and CL challenge. Still on for the double in the final weeks of the season.

- PSG, Arsenal, Man U, Liverpool (x2), Man City (x2), Spurs.

- Hazard, Cahill, Azpillicueta.

Lows:

- Too many dropped points against average sides.

- Foy and Dean.

High: beating L'pool away. It would have been the PSG second leg but spoiling the coronation of unhatched chickens had me grinning for a week.

Low: PSG first leg - we were awful.

It has been a pretty good season in my opinion.

Ofcourse it would have been nice to win something, but overall we did better than I expected.

Can I list our general attacking play as a low?

Highest for me was smashing Arsenal 6-0, of all fans they have done my head in so much saying we don't play the right way blah blah etc and it felt like we finally got revenge after the 3-5 loss under AVB.

Lowest has to be the Villa game, the night we blew our chance at the title

High: beating L'pool away. It would have been the PSG second leg but spoiling the coronation of unhatched chickens had me grinning for a week.

Low: PSG first leg - we were awful.

I thought we actually played well for large parts of the PSG game....except for you know, those bloody balls ups.

High for me was either schooling city away or demolishing arsenal.

Low was villa. Load of bollocks.

High for me - Arsenal 6-0 (other than the start of the season homecoming for Jose).  Liverpool away was great, but the Arsenal game was more of a meaningful game for Chelsea - where a decent portion of the happiness felt at the Liverpool result was based on them screwing up their title challenge, rather than it making a huge difference for Chelsea.

Low for me - Sunderland.  After all the hard work to get into the drivers seat in the title race, that game was just a kick in the gut.  Felt sick all day after that result.  The Champions League semi didn't really upset me - we did well to get to that position - but losing to Sunderland, at home, was just a choker.

The return of the happy one/grumpy one

Spanking arsenal 6-0

Spanking spurs

Double over City

Double over Liverpool

Gerrard's slip and subsequent gifs

Suarez's tears and subsequent gifs

Come back against PSG

---

Losing the home record

Losing to Aston Villa

Losing to Crystal Place

Getting spanked by Athletico again

Torres

The media

Hi points, spanking the arse, spuds (for personal reasons any win at Upton Park) & of course beating those w**kers at Anusfield.

Plus, being able to look down at the other teams in the table rather than looking up......... if you know what I mean.

Also seeing players like Cahill & Azipilicueta grow and show their true qualities is magic also.

Only low points for me is the domestic cups and mostly the poor show at Man City in the F.A. cup.

After a great win in the PL the week before, how great it would have been to go back (& reward the away support) with a repeat performance.

Losing is part & parcel with football, but the effort from the lads in that game was my personal season low point.

Definitely more highs than lows.

Loads of highs, Thumping Arsenal and Spuds, Eto'o hat rick v United, Beating Liverpool and City away in 2 really plucky performances, JT v Everton in the last minute and a CL semi final following a Demba Ba winner v PSG

But because so many of the lows were recent our season has petered out nevertheless I/We have some great memories from this season

High points

Beating Arsenal 6-0

Beating City at Etihad

PSG at home

And last but not least beating the Scousers and spoiling their party with all their ex players there!

Low points

Atletico at the Bridge

Sunderland at home

Palace away

I think all the key highs and lows of the season have been covered, but here's my personal take.

Highs

1) Jose's Back - Being there for Mourinho's return was awesome. Hearing his name bellowed out around the ground again as our manager prior to kickoff was just fantastic and. His return brought back a sense of confidence and unity to the Bridge which had been completely lost amid the anxieties of the 2012/2013 season.

2) First European Away - Atletico Madrid 0-0 Chelsea - The game wasn't the greatest but me and my best mate had a terrific 2 and a half days in Madrid, fuelled by a steady stream of beer, tapas, laughter and shamelessly vocal support.

3) Chelsea 10-0 North London - Nuff Said. Had a cracking night after Spurs as well.

4) Liverpool 0-2 Chelsea - The amount of pro-Liverpool hype that was developing in the media was becoming quite insufferable, so being able to burst the bubble by proudly parking our bus is something we should look back on with sheer delight.

Lows:

1) I generally hate losing out on the chance to win silverware of any kind, so losing to Bayern in the manner that we did in the Super Cup was frustrating. Sunderland too in the COC was poor.

2) We've suffered many ignominious defeats against inferior opposition in the league, but the worst of these for me was Crystal Palace away, made worse by the fact that I was there. This was the day that I became resigned to the fact that we wouldn't be winning the league. Even though there were several points left to play for, I knew that our limp performance on that day would repeat itself against opposition of a similar ilk.
