Is The Pressure On This Season?

Featured Replies

The pressure is always on Mourinho. They would love for him to fail.

Too be bad he keeps on winning.

It certainly is on more than last season because jose has been given the freedom to bring in the players he wants. If we don't hit the ground running immediately I'm sure the usual people will be on his case.

Yes because Jose said last season that it would be this one where we would be in the position to win the title.

No. Mourinho knows what he has to do and he'll let the players know as well. Last season saw us challenging for the title for the first time in 4 years, we actually saw some consistency in winning, made it to the CL semi final, players like Hazard, Oscar, Matic, Willian, Azpi, and Cahill all improved and that was good enough for me. Obviously fans would like to see their team win something at the end of the season and I'm pretty confident that Chelsea would have something to show in May.

Jose Mourinho is defiantly assembling a squad capable of winning major trophies. The pressure is always on Mourinho because he's one of the best managers in the world

Still more money to be spent yet and a few players yet to be sold to complete this seasons squad, once the squad has been finalized then lets have an in-depth look. Jose will be one of many managers under pressure this year no more than  Van Gaal will be at Utd or Pelligrini at City; there will be less pressure on Liverpool given they way over achieved last year.  What won't be tolerated around the Boardroom this year will be the failure to beat mediocre teams both home and away; if anyone choked last year it was us not Liverpool, at one point we had the title in our hands given the remaining fixtures but couldn't deliver against mediocre and bottom feeders.

Although Mourinho claimed repeatedly that last season would be a 'transition' season I think he would have been slightly disappointed at finishing third, especially considering Man Utd's demise and after we had reverted from the more free-flowing football we were playing at the start of the season to the tried and tested result-at-any-cost style of football that Mourinho has had most success with.

We really struggled last season against the more compact and defensive sides, and the two reasons most commonly stated were a lack of killer instinct up front and a lack of creativity (especially in the second half of the season after selling Mata and Oscar/Hazard/Schuerrle unable to maintain consistent form). The signings of Costa and Fabregas have addressed both of those issues so this season there can be no excuses. So for that reason I think yes, the pressure will be on.

We'll spend the entire transfer window chasing Luis before settling for a deadline-day loan for Eric Abidal. Then we'll spend the season pointing to that as the reason why we shouldn't be considered serious title contenders.

Do you know the French phrase "porter la poisse", Joe?  It means "to put the mockers on something" and I fear you may just have done that!   :7052005214347:   :shok:

Yes, the pressure is on.

If he fails to win either the Premier League or the Champion's League I think Mourinho will get the sack unfortunately. Fortunately however, I think we will win one of those two plus the FA Cup. Teams are in for a nasty surprise when they see a Chelsea side with an actual striker or two coming at them.

Calling the top four right now,

Chelsea

Manchester City

Manchester United

Arsenal

Liverpool will fail to make top four and will get hammered in the Champion's League leaving Manchester United to make a comeback under Louis van Gaal.

I think the only way he doesn't loses his job is if he gets those you listed but I also think a domestic cup double including a top 3 finish would keep his job too.

Edit: I agree on your top 4 although and us doing a double but I could see either Arsenal or Liverpool in that fourth spot.

Naturally. Jose will be judged after this season. He has told time after time this second season we are going for the title. I think we'll be stronger and if we manage to beat our direct rivals like we did last season we are very close on winning it, I'm sure. Our midfield is significantly stronger as is our striker-department.

The pressure is really on!

Jose bemoaned the lack of a quality striker all season last year.

First day the transfer window opened we've agreed to sign a striker.

Jose's got what he wanted so now he's got to deliver... And not just results, I think the standard of football played needs to improve too.

I think Mourinho has to win something this year to justify writing us off last season.

They secrete is the set piece i tell you, the set piece!!! Against teams that try to matches blow for blow I always fancy us to beat them due to better organisation and ability to break at speed. Against the west hams at home of this world we have to be able to take advantage of the quantity of corners and free kicks we are going to get. In his first spell this was a big feature of our play, we regualarly punished teams from set pieces, but last season... hopeless. Hopefully fabregas helps with this a bit.

I have my doubts as to whether it will happen, Abidal has already signed for two clubs this week!
