The England player injured ligaments in his left ankle during Saturday's 2-1 loss to Premier League rivals Manchester United at Emirates Stadium.

"Everyone at the club wishes Jack a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the pitch as soon as possible," read a statement.

Wilshere, 22, posted a picture of himself lying in bed following surgery.

 

He added the following message: "Ankle needed surgery in the end, went well thanks to the main man James Calder!"

He also wrote: "Work hard for what you want because it won't come to you without a fight.

"You have to be strong and courageous and know that you can do anything you put your mind to.

"If somebody puts you down or criticizes you, just keep on believing in yourself and turn it into something positive."

I know they won't because it will be an admission of there own ineptitude but UEFA have to consider a change to the Europa League. Even though we won it but really if your knocked out of one competition you shouldn't be automatically be put into another. These early group games have the appeal and glamour of The Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Hull had in my opinion had a result getting knocked out before the group stages. There struggling as it is in the league so how they would have coped with away in Russia on a Thursday and Southampton away on a Sunday. But of course if Liverpool lose to Basel they'll be in it and there confidence will be on the floor so every cloud. And if they are in the Europa League it's goodbye Rodgers welcome back The Slimy One.

1) Works his way back from from injury after months out

2) Starts to play well for Arsenal and England, media go crazy about how wonderful he is

3) Does something stupid / controversial

Dave Whelan has been charged by the FA in respect of his remarks about Jewish and Chinese people. The remarks were unwise in today's climate but charging an old chap like Whelan is harsh, imo.

Sad news about Pele, Blueblur. This could be a sad week for sport in general.

I did wonder but you can only look at profiles etc if you register and I couldn't do that!  I only came across it because someone posted it on Facebook.

I believe this is speculation - there aren't many details of Pele's Hospitalization at the moment, but most reports are saying it's not serious. More of precautionary situation.

I forgot what day it was but then luckily I saw Tottenham was playing today.

Agreed, ways I'd fix the Europa League:

- Cup winners get in to the competition or if cup winners finish in the Top 4 then 5th and 6th get in

- Same amount of teams as the Champions League

- No Champions League teams drop into the competition

- no round of 32 (which my first option would fix anyway)

- Play it on alternate Tues and Weds as the Champions League so it's got more spotlight on it

- scrap FA Cup replays from the quarters just to help a little with fixture congestion

- teams playing in Europe miss an extra round of the league cup

- League cup semis a straight knockout at a neutrel ground again helping with fixture congestion

Personally if it could be top two get champions league, third gets Europa League and they brought back the Cup Winners Cup it would be much better,
