February 5, 201511 yr Carlisle obvious has issues, but is it not wrong to keep enabling him, allowing him media time to further himself on the back of his problems?
February 5, 201511 yr Ralph Little's full statement. Obviously mental illness affects people in different ways so I'm not going to judge him but I think he has a point regarding Clarke Carlisle's history of repeatedly putting others at risk. "First and foremost, and I should know this by now, twitter is not the place for this sort of thing, as it takes more than 140 characters to talk about anything seriously. So already I wish I hadn’t said anything, not because I regret the comment, but because the choice of forum was wrong and frankly understandable if people are riled up. "Next thing is, I don’t suddenly want to air a list of grievances that sound sensationalist and do some tabloid’s job for them. Clarke and I have history, that involves money, lies, on one notable occasion me being interrogated by the police over something I knew nothing about… and all sorts of other stuff. "Now, when it comes to mental illness, I understand it, I’ve lived around it, I’ve supported it, I fight against the stigmatization of it and so on. I think it’s a very real issue with a long road to go to combat it. "So that said, on to this case… It’s extremely difficult to watch someone repeatedly ruin other people’s lives, then explain it in such a way that makes them immune to criticism. And it keeps happening. It’s now reached a point where, as this proves, it’s like emotional touch paper. "And sure, I’m not a professional expert on mental health, and no doubt, neither are you. But I know more about this particular case than you do just because you read about it in the Sun, or saw a documentary. "There comes a point where it’s just frustrating to witness someone constantly hammering the pattern of destruction for those around – and I was once one of those around - only to see the destructive force make a moving and sincere apology… then do it again. (On reflection, that’s the nature of addiction/illness, and I know that all too well, but as I say, a rash tweet and it’s not the place for it. ) "I should also say that during the course of this twitter… whatever it is, Clarke has been in touch with a retrospective apology over things that went on a long time ago, and I think that has to be respected by all, myself included. "Anyway... You have to be in a dark place to attempt suicide, and only a fool would suggest otherwise. However, I do find myself thinking that when you’ve been driving drunk five (is it?) times, risking lives of countless other people, and even in your darkest hour still manage to involve a lorry driver who could have died himself, and now has to live with that trauma and memory every day fro the REST of his life… Personally my stores of empathy start to dry up after a while. "Am I really that out of order for suggesting that’s not on? Do we repeatedly overlook reckless destruction of other lives because someone apologizes, again and again, and says it’s an illness? Isn't there a point where we can go, "enough is enough"? "I hate drink driving, I really do. I know victims of it, who have died, been paralysed, or lost loved ones, and I’ve watched this man get caught doing it several times then publicly forgiven, lauded, and handed a bloody good career! I’m sorry but that annoys me! "And I think that’s my overriding feeling. I don’t feel sad for Clarke any more, I was drained of that some time ago. Instead I feel sad, and maybe a little angry, for Gemma, and the kids, and the lorry driver, and the people who dived out of the way of the car all those years ago, and all the other people who have been f****d over and over and over… you know who you are. "Of course I wish Clarke a strong recovery – and not just from the crash. It would be a better world if he and all other sufferers of such an insidious disease could find a way to fight the good fight. But when he does end up facing the drink driving charges, this time around, I hope, not least out of respect for the hundreds of drink driving victims who tweet me every year, they throw the book at him. "I don’t think that makes me a c**t, or gobsh*te, or a w****r, or any other delightful name some of you came up with, but hey it’s a free country. "Though, as a final thought, I would say again, I’m a fool for forgetting that twitter is not, and never will be, the place for a comment like that. It’s too reductive and simplistic, and yes, without context, I can see it would seem insensitive and crass. Not my intention. "I’m going to bed."
February 5, 201511 yr That is a very good, well written response. But it also demonstrates why although I read twitter I don't like it much - too many people ready to call someone a c**t a gobsh*te or a w**ker without even trying to a engage in discussion. But as RL says, he responded because that's the medium that CC used in the first place. And I didn't know about CC's previous drink-driving record which shows exactly what RL means - selective to say the least on CC's part.
February 5, 201511 yr You've got to be some sort of a c**t to keep getting behind the wheel of a car drunk.
February 5, 201511 yr Rangers manager Kenny McDowall claims he has been told by the club that the five loan signings made from Newcastle must be in his starting XI if fit. Midfielders Gael Bigirimana and Haris Vuckic and defenders Kevin Mbabu, Remie Streete and Shane Ferguson joined from the Premier League side on Monday. Their parent club are owned by Rangers shareholder Mike Ashley. McDowall says chief executive Derek Llambias and football board chairman Sandy Easdale told him the news http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31145792
February 5, 201511 yr Give that Ralph Little chap a medal for having the guts to say what he did. Obviously I don't know either of them but he has always seemed a decent, likeable bloke. Alas, the same cannot be said of Carlisle. Don't want to speak too ill of the guy when I don't know full details, but he does come across as a bit of a Stan Collymore wannabee (who has managed to turn his life round pretty well despite his own misdemeanours). Expect to see him on Piers Morgan's life stories anytime soon..........................
February 5, 201511 yr Obviously I don't know either of them but he has always seemed a decent, likeable bloke. That's exactly why I was intrigued at the start by what he first said - he's never come across as a plonker so I thought he must have a point. I have never followed CC's doings so wasn't aware of his past.

McDowall says chief executive Derek Llambias and football board chairman Sandy Easdale told him the news http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31145792 The farce continues...it amazes me that a club of rangers stature, despite the mess it's been in for a few years, can't attract decent people in the boardroom to get it back on it's feet. It just seems they're an institution acting the cliche of an individual in debt, borrowing more, getting involved with wrong people, digging deeper hole etc you do wonder if they will ever come back

It just seems they're an institution acting the cliche of an individual in debt, borrowing more, getting involved with wrong people, digging deeper hole etc you do wonder if they will ever come back As bad as it sounds, right now I think their best bets is to just let Ashley take full financial control of the club, he's got the cash to stabilize them and probably get them back to something like they used to be. There'll be a few sacrifices along the way such as become a glorified feeder club for Newcastle but their long term future really doesn't look so great right now.
February 5, 201511 yr Hammers home how far they've fallen though...they are a much bigger club than Newcastle and now they're just their feeder club? Disgrace
February 5, 201511 yr They are in a woefully uncompetitive league though, there is no real incentive to invest much money in them. The best they can ever hope for is to get out of the group stage of the CL. No-one gives a toss about winning the Scottish league, which just involves either Rangers or Celtic turning up and playing and they win it. There's no money to be made there.
February 5, 201511 yr http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-31110113 Don't know if it's been posted, but check it out
February 5, 201511 yr Have I read that wrong or was crashing into a lorry his suicide attempt? If so then why potentially have another victim? I know people throw their selves in front of trains but that’s going to cause more trauma to the driver than anyone else, an innocent victim. I have a family member who suffers from severe depression so I know a small bit about it and can see how it affects them… so I know rational thinking can sometimes completely escape you but I still can’t help but think the selfishness to ruin someone else’s life can be avoided, these suicide attempts are not often done a whim, they’re carefully thought out, depressed or not. Sigh, I prepare for the onslaught, I’m not a very sympathetic person. No I completely agree with that, don't see why you should be slated for it at all.

An uncompetitive league doesn't mean there's no incentive to invest though. There's plenty of fans and money going around, the infrastructure is there and don't you get £40m or something ridiculous for just qualifying for the Champions League?
February 5, 201511 yr Hey everyone, did you know Saturday is Steven Gerrard's last Mersyside Derby? I never would have known if Sky didn't keep ramming it down everyones throats.
February 5, 201511 yr No I completely agree with that, don't see why you should be slated for it at all.I was expecting some 'but you can't control depression, he can't help how he acted, when you're depressed you don't rationalise etc...' from posters but it hasn't been forthcoming. I wanted to be more harsh in my reply but others have been blunt for me.
February 5, 201511 yr Hey everyone, did you know Saturday is Steven Gerrard's last Mersyside Derby? I never would have known if Sky didn't keep ramming it down everyones throats. Wow I hadn't heard that, but get this! The FA cup final falls on Gerrard's birthday! Wouldn't that be such a great story?! Didn't think you would have heard about it because I don't think any news outlet has mentioned it. Just to reiterate in case you missed the previous bit, the FA cup final is on Steven Gerrards birthday!! Edited February 5, 201511 yr by Adam
February 5, 201511 yr £22m man Jovetic left out if City's Champions League squad in favour of £26m man Wilfred Bony.
February 5, 201511 yr Top flight leagues in Europe spending: Is it because the Premier League is so cash rich or is it that late spending is just more encouraged in the Premier League than elsewhere in Europe? When you consider that the Cuadrado and Bony deals would account for the spending of all the clubs in pretty much every other league it is a rather unique situation that the Premier League is in. The Premiership really should do so much better in European compeititon than it acually does. Would any other business with revenue over twice the size of its nearest competitor expect to be inferior? I don't agree with homegrown protectionism or FFP but most clubs really need to be smarter. February 5, 201511 yr As much as I hate Liverpool, I'm actually contemplating what would be worse, them or Arsenal winning the F.A. Cup. I would hate for Arsenal to get it again, as for Liverpool I just despise them more than anything. Actually no f**k it, I guess a Gerrard w**k fest would be irritating should they win it on his birthday.
February 5, 201511 yr Arsenal over Liverpool all day long, lesser of two evils comfortably. The Liverpool/Gerrard w**k fest would make me puke my guts out.
February 5, 201511 yr No!!!!!!!!!!! Of course NOT Hazard. I was talking our 3 Brazilians - Oscar, Willian and Ramires. As I said, although Ramires and Willian are different type of players, I would still take Coutinho ahead of all 3 right now. Cannot imagine the current Brazil coach would be leaving Coutinho out as old Scolari did in the World Cup. Oscar is great on his day and does a lot more defensive work but I would like to see anyone of our 3 go past defenders for fun like Coutinho is currently doing. It would sure take some pressure off Hazard (hopefully that's what we'll see from Cuadrado). Agree about Coutinho Nibs, a real bargain. Trouble you've got, he would not be afforded the same freedom under Jose, which is why a comparison with our guys is perhaps a bit unfair.
