The Dutch translations of Asterix and Obelix are excellent. I have fond memories of the Goths called Tonic and Colatic :-)

The fishmonger is called Costunrix and his wife Foretientje (roughly translated into English Cost-a-few-bob and For-a-tenner), brilliant :-)

Nice move by the ref, giving two yellows right away and increasing the drama. Don't worry N Ireland fans, we still have almost 10 minutes to crumble as usual ;)

Draw was a fair result! Certainly didn't deserve to lose at least. I was in the bar last night for it and the place absolutely erupted when we scored.

I'd say the Graham Taylor era marginally shaded it. This though is dross not helped by the lack of atmosphere.

Euro 96 was what got me started with football, which was a great England team.

People will point at our group and say how we have dominated it to try and prove you wrong, but i agree with you, this group of players we have is pretty average. At least some a young enough to become top players though.

I'd like to see Rooney replaced and therefore a change of dynamic. Apart from my dislike of Rooney, I agree there are some youngsters with potential.

Rooney has easily been England's best player for over a decade.

He may not be the world's best, he may be past his best, but he's the best we've got.

He's broken England's record, he'll break Utd's record, and he's far more than just a goalscorer.

Ashley Cole has been England's best player in that time period. Always delivered on the big stage whereas Rooney has consistently underwhelmed in major tournaments since Euro 2004.

It's not just results it's the players themselves.

When you think a couple of years back the England team had Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham, Cole, Terry and Ferdinand lining up for us. Players that would have walked into the starting XI of most sides in the world. Regardless of how they performed as a collective it was an outstanding group of individuals.

You've now got an England midfield containing Shelvy and Milner and Phil Jagielka somehow has nearly 40 caps.

Congrats to rooney for his achievement with England...he is our highest goalscorer but he is down the list in terms of our best goalscorer...in terms of forwards in my lifetime I'd put Lineker, shearer, Owen ahead of him, I'm sure older generation would pick likes of greaves, and even hurst, given what he did at the 1966 World Cup too...problem for Rooney is, he's scored most of his goals in easy qualifiers and not in major tournaments when it counts...still deserves respect, but the feat has to be treated with a bit of perspective too

He's not our best striker ever - not even in my generation but he's performed pretty consistently over a period of time that makes him the countries highest ever goalscorer.  As easy as it may be to get that record "these days" he's the only one that's managed to beat Sir Bobby Charlton's record which stood for 45 years (?).

 

Congratulations from me to Rooney.  Made a bit special for the fact that it was the first England game I've taken my lad to - special night for the boy even if most of it was bloody boring and painful to sit through.

Anyone but Rooney, not a scouser and not a womanising slug. A better role model would be good, but skilled obviously.

Now that S----- G------- is stateside Shrek is the target of my venom. Have never liked him, but my dislike was focussed on another player in red with the L city in common.
