Chelsea are set to sign Andrej Kramaric from HNK Rijeka in the January transfer window, according Atalanta chief Pierpaolo Marino.

Kramaric, 23, has been dubbed the new Filippo Inzaghi because of his clinical finishing ability, and the Blues look to have seen off significant competition to get him.

Spurs were said to be leading the race recently, while Atalanta were reported to be close to a deal this week, but the Italian club’s chairman says Kramaric will join Chelsea instead.

 

The former Dinamo Zagreb striker has scored 37 goals in 38 matches for Rijeka, and has earned four caps for Croatia.

Hmm strange one.

At 23 he's not exactly a raw youngster while I'm always wary about brining in these types as it will stunt the potential for our current young boys coming through.

Is this just another deal like the many others we do where we loan them out then sell later on for a profit?

If I were to guess we will loan him back for the rest of the season and then he might come in to be Drogba's replacement next season.

Never heard of him but at 23, if we were to sign him, you would assume it is to come in to the squad because we don't tend to sign players older than 20 if we are planning to develop them and sell them on.

I'm pretty sure we won't play him.

I don't think anyone is silly enough to think they'll score as many in the Premier League but that's not to say that they can't do a job.

I certainly haven't. I was speaking about him with other posters here on another thread related to our least favourite Chelsea XI.

 

To say Kramaric could be another Kezman in the making is possible but this could befall any striker from any league around the world so I don't see how it's relevant to be honest but we can't be afraid to go for him if he has the potential and talent to succeed at our club instead of thinking he could be a failure.

Sounds as if he is on his way. £6m the fee and he will be loaned to either Vitesse or Leicester.

 

Would prefer it to be Leicester so we can see how he handles the league.

Odd, said in a recent interview that he didn't want to join a club where he wouldn't play and be sent out on loan.

Strange transfer if it happens. If we are to promote him to the senior team next year - why not save the money and try using Bamford or one of the other youngsters we already have on our books.

Has anyone watched him? Is he good? It's all well and good getting those numbers in the croatian league, but epl is a different animal.

by the way, the  season that Modric went to real, i saw a lot of spurs fans saying they didn't really care because he doesn't assist that much and doesn't score. It's almost like people think that an assist was the first and last move before a goal.

Whats Piazon waiting for? For his sake I dont hope hes waiting for a place in tje Chelsea first team cause that will NEVER happen. Especially not as a striker.

Cant believe people are against buying a striker because we have Piazon and Bamford.

Piazon isn't a specialist striker and although I'd like to see any youth prospect make it here, I think it's inevitable he'll eventually be sold (perhaps next summer). I like Bamford but I don't think he should be regarded as the long term successor to Drogs, Remy perhaps if he wants to move on. I'd like to think we'd be looking at bringing in someone with similar physical attributes to Drogs (Bony or Perica?)

 

Supposedly the Croatian national coach has drawn comparisons between Kramaric and Davor Suker - if there's any truth to that he seems as good a prospect as any. Hope to see this move happen.

 

I'm not sure a loan to Leicester would be good for his development as they'll be looking to avoid relegation (so may opt to stick with Nugent/Ulloa).

Piazon is miles from first team quality imo. There's talk of him staying at SGE, but even there he is struggling to play well consistently.

Not been a great time for most of our loaness this season.
