Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Featured Replies

He doesn't have a great record of playing youth but he's made a point of saying it's over if the things he should be judged on this time around.

Our academy is too good and FFP is too real for us but to take youth development seriously. Maybe that's why he's putting this type of pressure on Ruben.

It's not that he doesn't have a great record of playing youth , it's more like he doesn't have a record of playing youth!

What happened today is Joses way of saying 'I want Tiago'.

Let's see what happens, I'd be thrilled to be proved wrong.

How many youth players have gone onto to be a success, that Mourinho has ignored in his entire career?

There was no one good enough from our youth team when he was here the 1st time round, but he did integrate mikel and kalou into the 1st team.

At Inter he played balotelli, and he also played Santon a fair bit aswell.

At madrid he played varane alot and gave morata and jese their debuts, and integrated them into the first team.

He's been here 2 years and we've seen zouma play in big matches, and he's given debuts to at least 5 a youth team players.

I think it is unfair to say he has never played young players. He has spent the majority of his career at the top, where he has been able to coach the world's best players in the world, so he has n3ver had to rely on youth. He has never been at a club for longer than 3 years, but he has played young players throughout his career IF they have been good enough.

Beat me to it big blue, very few of the youth players we have had have been anywhere near the required standard, could count them on one finger. And we bought him back. Now however we have several ready to step up to the squad, now we will see whether he will play the youth.

That may all be true, but there was no point in criticizing RLC in public. A little bit of diplomacy or having a word with him in private wouldn't have hurt anybody. Jose is always too antagonistic with his opinions.

Be honest, did you think Matic was near the standard when we sold him?

Yep, let's see dkw!

Will certainly be interesting to see how it plays out, I know where my money lies though. I'd agree we have (seemingly) lots of young talent, I just have my doubts Mourinho is the man to bring them through, and I'm simply basing that on his career so far.

God yes, I was massively excited by him, much more than any other young player at the time. I had watched him dominate in a ressie game against a side with a a load of experienced players (can't remember who, might have been Fulham).

Fair enough, just that I don't recall many people feeling that upset when he left. I thought he would go on to be a good player and he made the smart choice of going to Portugal but I didn't expect him to develop this well.

Matic was bought and sold under ancelotti.

I know, I wasn't referring to the Mourinho part in your comment.

I'm cynical. I think Jose is laying the groundwork for not playing any youths next season. Why wouldn't this kind of thing be behind closed doors otherwise.

Why because he's making sure a young kid puts the work in? Stupid comment

Going public with those comments is not making sure he puts work in, it's plain disrespectful!

Have a word in his ear, not talk to media putting him down like that. This sort of talk should be left in the dressing room.

My mistake.

I think there was some disappointment when we lost matic, although I think his contract was expiring??

When you also consider we lost ballack and deco in the previous summer, it was a real shame we loaned matic to vitesse, as he looked like he would make an impact in the 1st team.

In some ways he was similar to rlc, in that he has ready physically to play at this level, which is so often a stumbling block for young players in this country.

With regards mourinho's comments, I don't see a problem with it, you have keep these kids on their toes nowadays. They have so much money and if your not disciplined enough, they could easily go off the rails.

Hopefully this will be in rlc's head over the summer and he comes back to pre season with a bee on his bonnet and something to prove, which is what it should be like for a rookie trying to break into the first team.

If players in the system are any good they WILL make it. How many have proved the club wrong? Carlton Cole, Robert Huth, Morais(Bradford)?? I don't think anyone has left and been top class, so this club hasn't been wrong yet.

Contracts and money while the club decides is a problem as well. When they get a better contract/money they have to realise they haven't made it yet. Maybe Jose is just giving all of them a kick up the backside through RLC.

There is a player at Chelsea who's been here for years not played, been out on loan but is on 30,000 a week. They've got to still be hungry and raise it to make the 1st team. Chelsea have given these players the best facilities, coaching and a start in their careers. Its now down to the hard work of these youngsters. I would love for some to break through but not to finish 4th or 5th and say great to see the kids coming through. The old line really is true......If they ARE good enough they will make it regardless of age.

It worked fine for Joe Cole and Eden Hazard. Guess you know better though.

Funny you mention Carlton Cole I was watching our gaoals from the 2002-03 season and I remember back in the day been convinced he was gonna be a top player for us. How wrong was I? Lol

Amazing. So in your eyes (and those of several others), Jose can do no wrong. The fact that it worked for Joe Cole and Hazard doesn't necessarily mean it was the right thing to do. The public criticism was totally uncalled for. For a youth player, it can totally destroy his confidence.

I think the media in general has fuelled this so called youth movement.  Every club must have youth.  You're a failure if you don't bring youth.

Well guess what.  In the last 15 year Sir Alex Ferguson brought through two players - Ronaldo and Rooney.  That's it.

The problem is times have changed.  Ferguson wouldn't have been able to get away with what happened in the 90s.

There's too much competition, winning and winning quickly has become of utmost importance.

Look at the top teams in the world. Youth is no longer 19,20 or 21 unless you're a Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar.

Youth is 23, 24.  This is the age where young players are establishing themselves.

Varane - best young defender in the world

Pogba - best young midfielder in the world.

Hazard - best young winger in the world

If you're not as good as these then you're just not going to get in to a top team until you're about 23.

Matic is a monster of a player but he had to go away and at 24 become arguably the best midfielder in Portugal the last decade for Chelsea to contemplate bringing him back.

This was a message not just to RLC but to all Youth players.  IF you want to be in this Chelsea team you have to work your ass off and become one of the best players in the world.  It's that simple.

We shouldn't rush them and we should be patient.  At the moment our youth are nowhere near being ready for a team that wants to be the best in the world.

You don't pick out flaws and slag players off to the press, it should be said to them and them only. Massively disrespectful. Knowing the manager has problems with their game is enough to step it up, without everyone else knowing about it.

Amazing that I know he knows best cause of what he's achieved yes
