Chelsea suffer most abuse from social media trolls

You sound like you haven't grasped the Internet yet. It's the way it's been and always will be, whether you like it or not, it will never change. No point grumbling about it.

Maybe I'm an idealist.  :laugh2:

Or maybe I treat people on here like I was raised to going to the Bridge all those years. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

If you were so well raised why are you so ruddy dysfunctional and lacking awareness of yourself and others. Your behaviour often contradicts your words.

The media conspiracy against Chelsea has clearly had an effect... ;)

Even the masquerading masses are against us, I expect José to talk about this at length in his press conference, we could have won the title weeks ago if the internet wasn't against us.

If only any of them had a clue!

Considering the official Chelsea Instagram account got in on the act then I doubt he'll say much. :laugh2:

Some weird stats. Apparently 50% of the abuse Balotelli and Welbeck received was racist, but 60% of Sturridge's was about his sexual orientation.

Bizarre, although I suppose it's to his credit that they had to turn to fabrication in order to find something to insult him with.

Cretins.

Being called a scouser doesn't count?

Jose's reaction?

Says people are bored by Chelsea because we've been top since day one.

Pretty much.

I'd wager us ending Liverpool's title challenge in their own back yard might have something to do with it as well. Scousers hold a grudge for a stupidly long time.

They have always disliked us, but their venom increased when we beat them to claim the final champions league spot in the 2002-03 season. Like you said, they hold a grudge for a stupidly long time.

Never really thought about that, sure make sense now, how can people get that upset over a game of football & for so long unbelievable.

Not really surprising, considering we've been involved in several controversial issues recently (racism, surrounding refs, diving, etc.). Of course, Chelsea is not the only club with these issues, but it would help if the club tried to cut out some of these things that they can control (diving and surrounding refs for example).

The club has been seen in a bad light for a long time, so even minor incidents would be blown out of proportion. It would take a supreme effort to overcome it's bad image, and that would involve going above and beyond what other clubs do.

top 3 individuals for abuse online, and the type of abuse most prevalent were:

Balotelli - racist abuse
Welbeck - racist abuse

Sturridge - Homophobic abuse

Sturridge not black enough, or just come across as particularly camp? bet he's gutted!

My personal favourite term of abuse for Chelsea is "Chavski". Particularly when it comes from the likes of Spurs fans (ahem...where did the London riots starts? In that chav infested sh*thole N17. They certainly didn't start in SW6) and Liverpool (famed for shell suits, thieving and dole queues. Compare Toxteth to The King's Road and do a chav count). In fact, I even read a Man City fan refer to Chelsea as Chavs. Ha ha. The irony of that.

don't we have more middle class supporters than any other team in the country as far as local demographics go? i remember reading that somewhere

perhaps yuppieski is a more fitting derogatory name for us

none of it matters too much anymore, the median household income of our fanbase is probably the exact same or slightly higher than those at arsenal or spurs

anyone with any money to pay to watch football in london is generally from the middle class or higher in most cases... unless you are a welfare hunter from the east end. but chavski remarks from backwater up north never gets old. i just hope they recognize who pays for their living expenses

My understanding of the Chavski slur and i believe it to be rather baseless is, Showing off and spending your vast amount of money in an undignified manner rather like that dustman who won the lottery a few years ago.

Chelsea supporters have the highest income in the country. I read a report on it. The stadium itself is in one of the most desirable locations in Europe; not like some industrial waste ground in the North like any number of clubs up there.

If it comes from undignified spending then that is really a bit tenuous isn't it? Most chavs don't have anything. I don't think the majority who use it even know what they're saying or what it is supposed to mean. They just hear it elsewhere and copy it. Likewise, Chelsea rentboys. Ask a rival fan why they even use it and what they're referring to and I can guarantee the majority couldn't give you an answer. They're just regurgitating something they read on the internet in an attempt to sound like a real, in-the-know fan.

/\Interesting post. There are a number of thoughts about the word Chav, council house and violent / vulgar, chavvy meaning child (from Romany), short for Chatham. The Romany version is the only one based in evidence and I think it also crosses over with a word used when the Brits colonised India.

The word was adopted and corrupted for the purpose of stereotyping, not just money, but pointing at those with more than the average number of offspring, or chavvies. Money is interesting in that a 'toff'and a 'chav' may have the same money, but choose to spend it differently according to their different priorities. All that said, I still don't see the connection with a city club and the capital city at that.

My Saints pal insists on saying Chelski which is really ruddy annoying, but does make some sense which chavski doesn't imho.

Of course, the word chav isn't solely based on money. It is an attitude as well. I guess one that is crass, vulgar and tasteless. You could apply that to the fans of most clubs in England.

Generally the team that is the most successful gets the most hatred. For about twenty years under Ferguson everybody absolutely hated United, a side that wins 13 league titles, two champions leagues and gets about 15,000 last minute winners will obviously be the most hated. We probably didn't get anywhere near the same amount of hated we do now under AVB or Benitez, because we weren't dominating
