Axel Witsel

Off on a tangent but I'd love Verrati, hated him when we played PSG last year, but exactly the kind of player you need in big games, like Costa, always willing to put himself about and get in the opponents face.

You're right mate I hated the bar steward but I used to hate Diego when he played for athletico, when your opposition hate you then your doing a good job..they are going to give us stick anyway may as well earn it

Can't tell if this is just reckless or deliberate...hopefully just a reckless tackle

I remember it at the time and i have seen it many times since, i am convinced he did it deliberately. The force that he puts into the stamp is what gives it away for me.

It was a long time ago now though and hopefully he knows that he did wrong and is sorry for it.

I think it's the same as that little c**t hunts challenge on cech. He's done him on purpose without a doubt, but he almost certainly hasn't meant to do as much damage as he did. No excuse though.

Witsel and Matic in the pivot with Cesc/Oscar in the 10 would be massive in big games. Then wait until we're a goal up with 10 to go and Mikel comes on for the 10.

Would love this move.

Apparently when speaking to the press yesterday Mourinho denied any interest in Witsel.

Not exactly.

Mourinho on Witsel link: "At this moment we have Matic, Ramires, Cesc, Mikel, L-Cheek & Oscar. 6 midfield players. I have no extra space."

So, he seems to be applying the one in one out policy and I can only see Witsel replacing Mikel there. Jose is an admirer of Mikel I believe

He never plays him.

He wasted no time in signing Matic.

Not a massive fan, I suspect.

The first interview Jose did after winning the league he congratulated the Chelsea family, the players that aren't always necessarily in the first eleven but when called upon are ready and when sitting on the bench don't fuss and moan. I think Jose loves team players. He mentioned Cech (and his save against Everton), Remy (and his goal against Hull) and even Mikel giving us stability in midfield whenever selected or coming on as a substitute..

I'm not saying Jose or the board wouldn't sell Mikel, but the fact he isn't in the first eleven or the fact we brought Matic to replace him (arguably one of the best DM's in the world) belittles his admiration for him.

I think, he mostly appreciates the fact that Mikel is content with being a squad player, doesn't complain and does the job when called upon.

But that's the thing, do we really want a player that is happy to play a very small amount of games a season ? to me that sounds like he lacks ambition and sometimes i think that shows on the field. Mourinho likes players that are focused, is great at working for the team and can do all the hard work, i don't see this often enough from Mikel. He often loses focus and i don't think he is great at tracking back and i don't think he is working as hard is he can on the field. I think he is very far away from what i would call a Mourinho type of player.

I get where you're coming from mate, but I suppose you need those kind of players to keep the squad harmony or you'll end up with what I think United might have this year, too many big names or egos not getting game time and throwing their toys out the pram.

Interesting mate if true, I like the way we do business these days. A lot more prudent and happy to walk away is the deal doesn't suit all parties. That's the impression I get anyways.

I think he is a fan in the sense that he keeps his noise shut, doesn't complain and is happy to come on and do a job when he is needed and puts in a shift, past that no not much of a fan I would think
