is witsel really any good though? haven't watched him closely at all. i would hope that isn't our only central midfield signing if so.

Pretty much how I felt about Willian but he was our best player last year. Conte could be the manager to get the best out of him.

I'd rather persist with Matic than sign Witsel.

i don't understand why we would get rid of matic. he is an important player for us when he's in form. hopefully next season he can prove his worth once again.

He's had five years in the Belgian league, one in Portugal and four in Russia.

 

Based on that alone he's a pretty unknown quality about whether he could cut it in one of the major European league.

 

Yes Matic had a bad season last season but before that he was arguably one of the best performing midfielders in Europe for about 3 years.

 

I'd bank on Matic performing better at Chelsea than I would Witsel personally.

Bang on the money as usual, took the words from my mouth. Admittedly I've only seen Witsel play about 5 or 6 times, but I've never been wholly impressed, like chelsbear said, he flatters to deceive. We need to upgrade on our midfield after they were so poor last year, not sell ourselves short. Let Everton sign him if you ask me.

Matic is a good player but not world class as many us mostly Chelsea fans think. We overrated him that season we won the league because everyone in our team were at there best. But when the team was struggling we all saw the reason why big teams have never queued up to sign and no team will pay more than 20m to sign him. Well I don't want him to leave even if Witsel and Kante come here. He can't replicate that 2014/2015 form consistently so we need to lower our expectations of him so he won't be under too much pressure to do more than he can just like we saw in the last season. But for me it's Witsel over Matic but many of us won't the better player until Witsel eventually join us or any EPL team.

So Matic was brilliant and was the best CM/DM in the league that season but it is not his level? Doesn't make sense.
