Following Our Nearest & Dearest Rivals, 2015/2016

FFS it is going to penalties.

We didn't start playing until the 85th minute, by which point they started to camp up in their box. We have been poor, but our tactics today haven't made it easy for us.

The only upside so far has been Andrea Pereira, who has been very good tonight. Just been a little unfortunate in his finishing. Same with Jesse Lingard. The older players have been relatively poor, bar Smalling.

this performance from a United side is pretty shocking - despite all our woes we're not playing as badly as that

We haven't quite been that bad

I think it's a pretty legitimate thing to investigate, it's a massive distraction, especially when you're trying to do something requiring the level of nerve, accuracy, and concentration as a penalty kick. It doesn't mean Rooney is vindicated for missing or that they will retrospectively change the scoreline but I would imagine Boro will get fined or the perpetrator banned from the stadium.

I also don't think Rooney gets a particularly easy time of it. Just about every week for the past two seasons there have been ten articles speculating that Rooney is knackered, past it, overweight, and nowhere near as good or explosive as he used to be... (I bet he wishes he'd accepted José's offer now)

In addition he's about as in the spotlight as it's possible to be - captain of the biggest side in the country as well as the national side. He's been playing more or less constantly since he was 17 which must incur an enormous amount of accumulated fatigue. It can't be easy.

Rooney was accused of living off his reputation on talksport tonight. Must say that comment immediately made me think of Eden Hazard who if he's not careful will drift into one season wonder territory.

We see laser's aimed at footballer's eyes many times every season that aren't investigated. I agree that it should be investigated, but it's just another example of the F.A's inconsistency, if you're going to investigate it this time, then investigate it every time. I personally think that Charlie Adam's challenge on Willian was much worse than a laser in someone's eye, but as usual it has been comepletely ignored.
