John Stones

Featured Replies

And at that point that's on Everton.  They are just pissed that we bent them over the table for Lukaku.  Bunch of bottom feeding babies.

And to think, I used to like Everton as a club.

So the fact we won't sell you a player we don't want to sell is making you hate us? Do you think you're entitled to have whomever you want? He's not for sale. It's not the money. Not for sale.

Also we're perfectly happy with what we paid for Lukaku. He's great. He wasn't remotely overpriced if you look at the goal scoring charts for the last three years and consider his age and the utter garbage that is being bought and sold for figures in the 20m range these days.

40 million is absolute stupidity for an unproven player....that money is up there with the best players in world football...sorry John Stones you just ain't worth that kind of money until you proved yourself on the world stage.

Do not think 40mill will be enough and, in all honesty, has the lad or his agent even hinted he wanted to join us? Maybe he wants to go to United or Liverpool in the future rather than us.

WTF?!?! Seems unlikely mate for a variety of reasons.

We should say f**k it and look somewhere else. They are playing hard ball... Now they are saying 40mil ? wTF

We're not playing hard ball! We're inside watching the telly while you are outside in the rain complaining that we aren't playing fair. We're not playing at all!

Kenwright is very sick mate. Hard to get details but supposedly quite serious. We haven't heard much from him about anything and word is that Martinez has final say. So when Martinez says "not for sale" (which he has -- a lot) it is effectively the chairman saying it by proxy.

I know you are a Chelsea fan and you don't think from other perspectives. We have a lot of good players. Some great. Players who are better than our current squad that will actually sign from a team not in the CL are few and far between. See my post on the last page.

Martinez does not believe sell to buy works and neither do most Evertonians. Sorry mate but we're not buying the lie any longer. Doesn't work. 40m? We'd get maybe 25m left over for transfers. How does 25m help us bridge a gap of a billion pounds? 25m is what they're quoting for Ashley Williams for crying out loud! You think we get better replacing John Stones with Ashley Williams?!?!? What would help is keeping the players you lot (you, City, United) usually buy from us. That's what would help.

I wouldn't sell for 50m mate. The money doesn't help when players worth 20-30m want CL. Go ask Spurs and Liverpool how well they progressed after selling their best players.

In regard to that last sentence...

Sorry to break it to you but you won't displace the likes of us, citeh, United, arsenal from the CL spaces, even then you'd have a fight with Spurs & Pool for EL. So Your best players will leave eventually regardless.

It is a ridiculous fee and it's not a ridiculous fee. Both are simultaneously true. It's a paradox.

Schroedingers toffee.

40m is a ridiculous fee for an unproven player. If Everton don't want to sell, fine, we could get a top quality defender somewhere else if we're vwilling to spend that kind of cash.

If Stones is as good as Everton fans seem to think, he's going to leave, anyway, just a question of when and where to. If not this summer to Chelsea, then a year from now to City or United. The only way to stop that from happening is for Everton to get a wealthy owner willing to bankroll a club with top four ambitions.

Your manager's got his heart set on him though. And surely you trust his judgement of defenders? (ignoring Filipe Luis temporarily).

And it's not your money. Do you really care if you buy someone for £35m or £40m when it comes down to it? Surely the joy of being insanely wealthy is the pleasure of saying ''how much? yep, I'll take that'' regardless of what the other party comes back with.

PS That's not meant as an anti-Chelsea dig, we'd be doing exactly the same in your position.

He's comfortably better than Kalas.

His composure, reading of the game and ability to play the ball out of defence are in a totally different level to Kalas.

I admit, not seen a ton of Kalas whilst on loan.  Im judging Kalas by his performance vs Liverpool, a game that was a potential title decider, and he was damn near perfect against their infamous SAS lineup.  Certainly think he should get another shot before 40, million is spent on Stones

Not many are disputing that at all. You're putting words in our mouths, so to speak. He's going to leave eventually, yes. But that doesn't mean we have to let him go this summer. If he helps us to a top 6 place this year, has a great season and goes to the Euros, then we'll be able to demand £40mil without batting an eyelid. European footy would also allow us to attract decent replacements with the money we get.

We're not stupid, we know the score. But we're also a big club, and we want to keep the spine of a really good team together for as long as possible - something that Chelsea haven't had to do for the last 15 years. That's not bitter, it's the truth.

You got £50mil for David Luiz. Was he proven on the world stage? I understand, PSG are mental, but still... £50mil for Luiz. You've set your own benchmark there.

Also, Sterling - £50mil to Citeh. Again, i know forward's are more expensive than defenders but... has Sterling proved himself on the world stage? No. Not at all.

What's your opinion on Kenwright? Even if you do get the 40m I wonder how eager he would be to spend that

Ermm yes.

He won the CL, Europa, FA cup and played in the World Cup finals for Brazil who made it to the final..

Can you be any more proven than that?

My god! Lol some posters are beyond belief these days

Also, without trying to be a kopite and play the victim, this here is just another example of the press getting into a frenzy. Matt Law has been one of the main culprits, along with Simon Johnson in the Standard.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...o-leave-Everton-before-making-fourth-bid.html

So, Mr Law - once again, I might add, without any quotes or substantial evidence to support his claims - is basically writing a piece saying it's all on Stones.

For his price we could have Varane, let that sink in for a minute.

...Or Hummles; point well taken.

I just wonder how much of this will be sorted now because of the signing of Baba. If he eventually slots in at lb and Dave moves over to rb we have Iva, Cahill, Zouma, and JT for 2 spots. Plenty of cover.

Lets ride this season out and see if our youth players can make the cut next year. Maybe instead of spending the money on defense we could cement our midfield with some quality buys instead.

For example, perhaps Draxler or Barkley is the box-to-box player we've been looking for. That would be money well spent imho. As well as a proper winger: griezmann or lacazette could be electric. But really it's the front and having a proper striker that regardless how good our defense (with or w/o Stones) is, we need a real threat at the front. As mentioned previously, maybe after this season we will see how Bamford performed. If things go well we will save money there with our own coming through!

What's your opinion on Kenwright?

Without trying to make this thread about the Everton board... as a chairman, we could have done a lot worse. He's an Evertonian through and through and nobody disputes he has the best intentions for the club deep down.

But, when it's come to really trying to push the club on, him and the board (who are the most to blame) have been a complete failure. Several failed stadium moves, ghost investment and transfer money (e.g. the sale of Arteta) completely going down the drain. And while I'm not one to kick up a fuss about a lack of transfers (I always prefer quality over quantity) now we're in an era where the TV money being pumped in is huge, and we've only spent £5mil so far this summer.

The board has three choices now to raise capital (and as any person with a business background will know, you don't raise capital by selling your assets):

- Invest in the club themselves

- Stay on but find investment from elsewhere

- Sell up

But they can't keep on the way they have been doing - with no investment at all. If Stones were sold this summer, I do believe the fans would turn on mass.

But he's not a good defender, in fact he's a pretty average defender. You did not win the CL because of Luiz... or the Europa for that matter.

And, as for the World Cup... well that's really not a great example is it. 1) Brazil reached the semi-final and... 2) He was part of the defence that got beat 7-1 in that game.

This is funny. If he wants to leave, youre not getting 40m. The minute he hands in a request his price drops, regardless of how proven he is. And it seems since he's not for sale that would be the only way he's leaving barring a Bosman. Your club have painted themselves in a corner.

Luka Modric written all over it
