John Stones

Featured Replies

They also need to think about how sh*t they have done the past season or two.

Could £30 odd million give them 2/3 players to challenge for a top 6 finish, a cup run or even top 4?

Stones value won't go up by much, not in terms of Suarez who was and is one of the best striker in the world, that's the difference IMO

Well like I have said previously the year they finished 4th was following a year where they were almost relegated..what changed that year? they sold Rooney...enough said.

So how much is John Stones or Pogba worth...this article was referring to baseball but the principles I would guess apply to every pro sports team.

Rule Number One in the Sports Labor Market:

When it comes to salaries, no profit-oriented owner will knowingly pay more than a player is expected to generate in revenue.

James Quirk and Rodney D. Fort, authors of Pay Dirt: The Business of Professional Team Sports, explain why:

Looking at things from the point of view of any team, we can calculate the
 most
that a profit-oriented team would pay a player; it is the amount that the player would add to the team's revenue if he were signed. In the jargon of economists this is the player's
marginal revenue product
, which we will refer to as his
MRP
. The player's MRP is the most a team would pay a player because paying a player more than this would decrease team profits; on the other hand, signing a player for anything less than his MRP means that adding the player increases profits for the team.

Yes, owners and general managers sometimes misjudge a player's talent or throw away big money on a player who isn't right for the team. But here's the bottom line: An owner will pay a player millions of dollars only if he or she thinks the player will bring the team even more than that in revenues.

Whatever the clubs position the issue for stones is clear. He should aim to play and be paid at the highest possible level at all times and his first loyalty should be to himself subject to truly being professional.

I work in the investment banking industry. If a better job, ie better paid and more prestigious firm comes along you take it. The only reason you don't is if you feel you aren't up to it or you don't like the culture.

A professional footballer basically has 10 years in the premier league, a bit more for the best or toughest a bit less for the also rans or injury prone. The less time spent getting to the top the better.

Stones loyalty isn't really to Everton or Chelsea. subject to his professional obligation to put in max effort for his current employer and to behave, his loyalty is to himself.

The same may have to apply to hazard when real come calling though

Id be more than happy to sell Hazard if they meet our price or close to it. Hes only worth so much, if they pay, out he goes.

Id bet he already knows if he wants to go to Real or not. Players that good know where they want to end up. He knows he'll cost 100m pounds but he also knows Real will pay it. Thats the only place I see him going, just a matter of when if at all he be ready to leave.

I always got the sense Ronaldo wanted to end up at Real but was just picking his moment to go.

Problem with hazard is he still has to prove he's worth that kind of price tag. At the moment he hasn't shown it. At his age, Ronaldo was tearing up La liga, and had already tore up the prem.

Wonder if there will be any movement on this today.

Doubt it.

Transfer request went in yesterday. Chelsea will probably be spending the day putting together a new financial package to offer, The Guardian reckon it's going to be £35m with £5m worth of add ons.

The new bid I would guess will be submitted on Thursday or Friday but don't rule out this going right down to deadline day.

With a deal like Pedro's where he had release clause and the club were happy to let him leave then the business can be wrapped up fairly quickly.

Something like this just drags on and on and on and on....

Still gives us all something to piss and moan about I suppose.

I guess when I said 'movement' I meant rumours on Twitter and stuff... because it went quiet for a while. All speculation I know (and 90% of it total rubbish) but it gives me something to do. Apparently WBA rejected Berahino’s transfer request so I see no reason why Everton won’t do the same considering their stance from the off.

All quiet on our side at the moment. Fans are waiting for a comment from the club. We play tonight, so clearly Martinez will be asked about it, if there's nothing official released by the club before then.

I would guess Martinez would prefer to sit tight, keep the player til next Summer and then sell him when we've had time to scout replacements properly etc.

The fans are divided between being angry at Stones, angry at the universe, being pragmatic that these things happen and we need to use it to our advantage in the market and then finally you have the usual conspiracy theory loons who think that this is somehow tied to faked moon landings and the Twin Towers.

Do you think the club will release a statement or make a comment before the game.

If Stones isn't in the match day squad surely that sends out a message of sorts?

It's a LC game.

He was never going to feature.
