Lukaku - Blumming Useless ?

Oh what could have been if jose hadnt replaced lukaku, de bruyne and mata with costa, fabregas and cuadrado. F#**ing terrible.

What good bit of business have we done since he has been back. I'm stumped! Matic in was good, luiz for 48m was good, however i would prefer he had stayed. Zouma was very good business.

The rest has been either buying poor players or selling good players. The team has gone backwards.

Side note, i really rate willian, but cant remember if he came before jose came back.

This is a good point, but these 3 players combined were about 90m, so i would hope for a bit more than 4 months good form before they fall to pieces.

Plus you cannot say lukaku was not a mistake. It was clear as day we had uncovered a potential super star, yet we sell him and end up with a fighting, moaning, cheating, crocked embarassment of a striker. I wouldnt want him even if he could score 20+ goals per season. Behaviour is an embarassment to the team.

You can't argue with the business done. All were praising Jose for his transfer dealings last season and they win the title for the club.

Still don't think Lukaku is that great, tbh. The one I didn't like was the Mata transfer. Mata was Chelsea's little magician, a fan favourite, liked by both fans and haters of the club.

Sad to see him so average now, and playing for the Mancs. Was really flying high and was one of the players at the club who was a joy to watch.

Lukaku like Sturridge have looked like great players let go because since they departed we've been shocking in the striking department. Ok, Costa had a good two thirds of a season but apart from that Lukaku and Sturridge (when occasionally fit) have looked better than what we've had. But the truth is that they aren't close to level of player we can afford and require to keep us at the level expected of club owned by a multi billionaire with a passion for the game.

The question isn't about why we let them go, but why we didn't buy players of the level needed to dominate both domestically and in Europe.

We just need to get over him, he hasn't done bugger all for Chelsea as a player. Last time he was given a chance, he missed a penalty and we lost a cup against Bayern. He never wanted to stay and fight for a spot. Granted he's good, when he makes his next big move in the next couple of seasons, he won't be the starting striker by default, he has to learn to fight for his spot.

Mata is just a sad case, as soon as Jose came in, we feared his days were numbered. He never captured the same form at United, which was good for us, but I wouldn't have a problem had he done lot better over there.

When we bought him, Costa was among the best strikers in Europe after leading Atletico to La Liga and a Champions League final. He then proved that in his first season here.

Why do players have to have prior pedigree to lead our line. Its sad how we think this way and dont give our younger players a chance. Lukaku and sturridge could both lead our line, and have proved that since leaving. Sturrudge has injury woes, but so does costa. Lukaku on the other hand is probably one of the top 5 strikers in the league right now.

My opinion is that i am not that bothered about sturridge, but lukaku will be a top player long after costa fizzles out.

Well Lukaku wanted out because he wanted to be our #1 striker.

Based on that comment I have to assume you think Remy is our #1 striker.  He is, in fact, a #2 or 3 for that position and probably 3 cause Hazard has been getting more minutes there recently.

Welcome to a forum about CFC.  Is there anything else you would like to know about our fantastic club?

....

He wanted to play, he didn't want to bei #1 striker. He wasn't even #1 striker in his first season for Everton.

He explicitly said that he was annoyed by the club signing Drogba and Eto'o.

We have to take a long hard look at how we mishandled both De Bruyne and Lukaku.

IMO we let them go far too easily and gave them little incentive to want to stay.

Both were clearly good enough to have a future at the club, yet we contrived to drive them out of the club without them getting a chance to prove themselves.

It smacks of mismanagement, carelessness and arrogance on our part. Both Jose and the Board are to blame and need to learn from it. What is the point of identifying and nurturing young talent if you fail to benefit from it? A small profit on the balance sheet is nice. But it counts for nothing in the long term when you've got gaping holes in your squad and are casting around for more expensive replacements.
