Papers saying it could be announced in March and the board don't want to continue searching beyond March.

If it is Conte, I think I'd be happy with him. I didn't know much about him but having read up on him, I think he'll be a good choice and a good choice to rebuild the club.

Conte is so happy to give youth a chance he wants to sign Vidal.

And it was also reported yesterday that he wants to sign also Lazio's Antonio Candreva. Still, it may be as a transition, we can't suddenly play only with the youngsters (as City did on Sunday with obvious results), we need to bring them into the first team slowly and balanced with other experienced players.

“Catenaccio and counter-attacking football have had their day. We have to have a rethink and move with the times.

“Football has changed dramatically, and I have a feeling that the mentality is changing in Italy. Good attacking football is all about the art of quickly switching to attack after winning the ball, but still finding the right balance between defence and attack.” - Conte, Feb 2016

Conte on his 424:

“There’s been too much talk on this particular way of playing. In actuality it’s a 4-4-2. I know of course novelty makes sometimes a great topic of discussion. If instead of saying ‘4-2-4? I had said ‘4-4-2? from the very beginning, we wouldn’t be discussing this ‘innovation’. Maybe all it is is just a normal idea of play. It is a normal 4-4-2. I think in England most teams that are winning are applying this type of module, which enables you to cover the playing field in the best possible way I think.”

Very few box-to-box midfielders out there and not many I can think of in our ranks. Maybe Van Ginkel but if we're looking for this type of player than it's probably Vidal or Nainngolen to be honest. Matuidi is a long-shot but you're really looking for Ramires with a better touch. I'm surprised we weren't linked with Imbula to be honest,

I'm not really sure what to take from this. Simeone is very successfully using a 442 model in Spain but that could be described as defensive (or Catenaccio) because it's a very organised, narrow style of play that does look to exploit teams in transition.

I'm not sure how well our players fit into this though, specifically Fabregas and Hazard.

This is perhaps the most interesting thing for me. Sabatini is a mixed bag and you'll find a lot of people who admire him as well as some who would criticise him but if there's one thing he's done in his time at Roma it's make profit. He seems to have a good eye for value in the market and it would be ideal if we had a coach and Technical Director (or whatever) who worked in concert with one another.

Don't really think we need anyone like that though.

I mean we already identify the hottest properties in Europe and bring them in and have done for a while.

Value for money is a vague term, if you are a big club clubs will hold out for the big fee for their players who will no doubt be their best first team player or their outstanding youth player.

We have had a mixed return in recent seasons getting Tibo, De Bruyne and the likes on cheap deals but over spending on the likes of Cuadrado but then again every single top club is guilty of this to a certain degree.

In short we don't really need anymore background men, too many cooks spoil the broth and all that.

I think a person in this role is very useful nowadays, simply because the number of responsibilities is so large that many coaches feel it's better to hand them off to other people.

But what's important to note is that we already have a chap in this role so it would be better for the new coach to not just dispose of Emenalo, but replace him with his own choice. That isn't just surrounding the guy with the best people (in his view) for the job, it's a massive statement that you're backing this new guy and is exactly the type of change I've been saying we need for a while.

I won't believe it until I see it though and if it does happen then I expect Emenalo to make a sideways move because he's Teflon.

Another thing I like is not only that Sabatini is experienced in the role, not only does he have a good track record in the role, but he's also be held accountable in a way that none of Roman's mates are.

Roman has the final say and if he rates and likes Emenalo in his current role (Which I think we know he clearly does) then I just can't see him replacing him.

Roman has his own set up and managers tend to have to work to his methods like Jose, Carlo and the rest. Conte would be the same.

Then the cycle continues and we'll need to spend big to be competitive, except I don't know if we have the buying power that we once did. And Conte will last 18-24 months.

Depressing.

Depressing.

Indeed.

That's the problem. We all see the flaws in the current set up but for whatever reason Roman likes his people in those roles.

I'm not sure who has the final say on player purchases or identifying them but ideally our next manager would be able to pick out the players he needs to play his system.

Can't say I find conte anything to get excited about...if he comes, I hope I'm proved wrong

To be honest it's a safer appointment than we are used to.

AVB, Scolari, FSW, Grant were all a bit weird in their own way.

Conte almost feels too sensible for a Chelsea appointment.

Anyone know his man management style? It seems our lads do better and try harder when they're one big happy family led by a well tempered father.

Basically we need a younger version of Guus who is technically and tactically sophisticated. Truth be told, Guus has lost his technical and tactical acumen.

I'm not sure such a person exists, as it takes decades to build the man management skills Guus has. If you read accounts by players when he was in the prime of his career, Guus wasn't the supportive father figure he is today.

If you listen to Pirlo, then he's incisive and inspirational. He's known to be very obsessive and meticulous about match preparation too, a bit like Jose, and he's demanding of his players as well.

So I'm not sure it'll be the same relaxed atmosphere as it is under Guus but I don't think it needs to be either. As long as everyone buys into what he's doing then everything should be fine, but they have to be committed 100%.

Truth is he's probably much closer to Mourhino than he is to Hiddink.

Tomorrow or Friday there will be contact between #CFC and staff of Simeone who knows the ultimatum is mid-March. (calcionews24) #Atletico

I thought it was looking like Conte but still rumblings of Simone.

I see the situation like this: We have made proposals to Conte and Simeone, Conte is very keen to take the job and is probably close to agreeing terms with the club already. Simeone is also tempted but still unsure due to his ties to Atletico and we are waiting/giving Simeone a few weeks to make up his mind. If he is keen and wants it, he gets it. If not, Conte.

Conte is so happy to give youth a chance he wants to sign Vidal.

Wouldn't it be better to sign a 29-30 year old that is capable of winning us titles now, while the the likes of rlc can develop?

I have no problem with us signing players that are for the first 11 and keeping us competing at the top.

My gripe is signing squad players whose place could be filled with a youth player.

Are you suggesting we shouldn't sign any players and only promote from within?

It could work but it would very risky.
