I see the situation like this: We have made proposals to Conte and Simeone, Conte is very keen to take the job and is probably close to agreeing terms with the club already. Simeone is also tempted but still unsure due to his ties to Atletico and we are waiting/giving Simeone a few weeks to make up his mind. If he is keen and wants it, he gets it. If not, Conte.

Yeah it definitely seems like we've spoken to two of them. I always thought that Conte was first choice though, not Simone.

Wouldn't it be better to sign a 29-30 year old that is capable of winning us titles now, while the the likes of rlc can develop?

I have no problem with us signing players that are for the first 11 and keeping us competing at the top.

My gripe is signing squad players whose place could be filled with a youth player.

Are you suggesting we shouldn't sign any players and only promote from within?

It could work but it would very risky.

I was more being tongue in cheek to the poster who said clearly Roman wants youth to succeed at Chelsea and on the very next line bought up the rumour that Conte wants Vidal.

Without a hint of irony I might add.

For what it's worth and I've said this before, youth development just doesn't matter to me.

We are fortunate to support a club with an owner who is willing to invest in the club so we're not reliant on our youth system.

The only reason it gets mentioned is because it would be nice.

I'm rather indifferent myself. Just want to see Chelsea play to the best of our ability.

Conte will be sacked in 2017 if we appoint him.

I have a feeling that anyone appointed will be sacked by the end of 2017. Roman is all about instant gratification and short term results.

But there are stories that Chelsea want to start doing things differently and giving people time. Jose was allowed time to fail. Remember AVB and Scolari were both in the top 4 when they got sacked - Jose was 16th. Massive difference.

Roman showed a lot of patience with Jose and I believe he wants to give managers time.

After watching the second half atletico vs psv, simeone isn't the manager for us. Too f**king boring for my liking and reluctant to attack a 10 man psv team knowing an away goal would be important. I hope its conte, we need something different at the club.

So I'm not sure it'll be the same relaxed atmosphere as it is under Guus but I don't think it needs to be either. As long as everyone buys into what he's doing then everything should be fine, but they have to be committed 100%.

That's a good point. A player, I forget who, said that people that never talked to each other are talking now. It's unclear whether they didn't talk to each other because they disliked each other, or whether they're shy and/or were never in a situation of needing to talk to the other person.

Regardless, Guus has opened the communication channels. He has also extinguished the personal conflicts between players. Mikel said that he makes it clear when he's upset with you, but he tries to settle things quickly and move on; he doesn't hold grudges. Having that kind of role model can change not only how players interact with the manager but also with each other.

Guus has given the next manager a big gift in providing him with a group of players that are communicating and working well together. It must be awful for a new manager to step into a dysfunctional dressing room and have to deal with longtime conflicts between players--as if the job weren't difficult enough already.

By the way, when people say that Guus is "relaxed", it doesn't mean that he lets players be lazy. His former players, including John Terry, have said that he made them work very hard. From the quotes I've read, it seems that "relaxed" means that there isn't constant tension and discomfort in the dressing room due to interpersonal dynamics and dressing room politics.

Yeah, if the information in these links is true, I don't want Simeone.

Conte is the best possible signing Chelsea could have made in my opinion, he's one of the absolute best managers in the world. It will be interesting to see what happens with Cuadrado, given that Conte is such a big fan of his.

It's a such a big rebuilding job though that I think we need Conte who has been there and done it. As much as I love Simone, I think Conte would be a better fit.

I will be happy with Conte seems like there is a shift in the football world coming again tactics are changing old managers are being found out and we need a manager who's dynamic and isn't stubborn hopefully Conte is the one.

Not a season goes by or a manager sacked this same "story" surfaces. I would like this to be true but... At least we know how our owner thinks.

Conte has agreed a three-year contract and all that needs confirming is the signature of owner Roman Abramovich. #CFC (Gazzetta)

Can someone put the "it's happening" GiF?
