Didn't know much about Conte but just read up on him. 3 seria A titles is impressive.

Question is, which is the most impressive... 3 seria titles or 1 La Liga and a CL final?

Don't forget Juv came 7th 2 years straight before Conte joined.

A La Liga title against the likes of Madrid and Barcelona is a fantastic achievement so I'd say that but the more I read and hear about Conte, the more I like him.

The issue for me is the amount of money you'd need to spend to implement his favoured tactics and the roles of players like Hazard and Willian. If you're not going to back him financially then there's no point and Simeone is the better choice because the squad suits him better.

In my opinion, under Conte Fabregas takes over from Hazard as the key player in the team and you build around him as he did with Pirlo. Then you need high-energy midfielders who are comfortable on the ball which probably means Mikel and Matic are out. You need (as if we didn't already) ball-playing centre-backs and probably 3 of them, as well as possibly looking at wing-backs although Rahman and Azpi might be good in a 352.

Then you're looking at a two striker system in all likelihood which is where I think Hazard comes in. Have Costa lead the line but allow Hazard to play slightly deeper than him as a more conventional number 10.

I actually think there's quite a lot of potential to use our young players in these systems too, and I'd love to see Lewis Baker be given a real go as a deep-lying playmaker. He has the vision and range off both feet to do that.

It could be an extremely exciting time for the club but they need to fully commit to a real change and allow whomever is appointed to do their job without interruption. If they do that then we could see a real change in the footballing philosophy of the club for the first time in over a decade.

Interesting Shedender91. I was reading about how his favoured 352 formation.

I kind of agree that winning La Liga is a better achievement but it was a one off achievement. Winning Seria A 3 times on the trot shows consistency and ability to keep players motivated.

I do like Simone though and think he's a character. I just wonder if the board feel Conte has that little bit experience than him and a little bit more proven.

If Simeone had a squad as good as Juventus in Serie A, I reckon he would've won more than just one title. I'm not trying to belittle Conte's achievements, but it would be a miracle if someone in Spain managed to win several titles with any other club than Barca or Real Madrid. It's not as if Atletico have been poor during Simeone's other seasons. He has won a trophy every season he has been there so far and in all of his full seasons at Atletico, they've never been out of the top three. Both of them are very good managers, but it's just a matter of style. Which one would Chelsea prefer?

By the sounds of it, the board are keen on Conte because of the attacking play he brings. Simone is slightly more defensive.

I kind of just like Simone a he's a character. Managers like Pellegreni and Martinez (who is very media savvy) are just so boring.

If you want character there's really only one choice ;)

At least his not FSW. And he wouldn't last a season anyway.

Edit: Have you noticed he has 5 votes? It's a shame the votes are not public. Who do you think have voted for him?

Roman, emanalo, granovskaia, tenenbaum, and buck! Lol

Interesting to hear Guus say that Chelsea have fallen behind Europe's elite and there's a massive rebuilding job ahead.

I can't help but think that the likes of De Bryne, Lukaku, Mata, Luiz would have helped with this rebuilding process.

Starting to seriously warm to the idea of Antonio Conte. Juventus were very average when he took them over, finishing 7th in both the previous two seasons but Conte turned them into an unstoppable winning machine, winning 3 League titles in a row.

In one of those seasons Juventus won the League unbeaten and in another they won 33 out of 38 games.

In all honesty, Juve had no competition in Seria A. Inter and Milan were both sh*t (and still are), and the closest to Juve was Roma. But for 2 of those Scuddettos, they had no competition.

The difficulty is knowing whether he won it because of a lack of competition. At least with Simone, you know he had real competition from probbarly the best two teams in the world.

If Chelsea have fallen behind then imagine what Guus would say about Manchester United. They didn't win sh*t for a few seasons now + they miss CL and will probably miss CL next season too. Their squad is worst than Chelsea.

Juve had no competition because he built a team that was so much better than everybody else in the league. He took a team that was the 7th best team in that same Serie A and won the league, unbeaten, in his first attempt. That takes some doing.

Id say they have a better squad than us atm

My guess is that there really isn't a #1 candidate, that the board can't make up its mind and switches back and forth. The glaring lack of football management expertise on the board surely isn't helping.

The list of decision makers in an earlier post, if accurate, sends a clear message that the board is weighing financial competence more heavily than football sophistication. I think they'd rather have a financially savvy manager who plays boring football than a financially unsophisticated manager who plays exciting and innovative football.

You raise a valid point - could the hypothetical Chile expert also clarify how to pronounce 'Jorge'? My knowledge of Spanish phonemes is even worse than my knowledge of South American football.

Is it 'hor-heh' or 'hor-jeh' or 'jor-jeh'?

It's pronounced HOR-hay in Spanish. If he were Brazilian, it would be JOR-jee with the second syllable shorter. The second syllable isn't exactly jee. It's kind of halfway between jeh and jee. That's how Brazilians pronounce it. Don't know if it's the same in Portugal.

I don't care who the next manager is going to be............as long as they put more faith in the home grown youth players and do their job in a calm manner.

I do not want to see a big mouthed spic ranting and raving.

They won't have the luxury of putting faith in inexperienced academy graduates due to the "win all your games NOW or you'll be out in a few weeks" mandate.

Developing a long term youth-based foundation is inherently incompatible with immediate top of the league results. Youth players will make mistakes and must make mistakes in order to learn.

If the high powers at Chelsea are serious about a long term youth-based foundation, they have to be willing to accept a mid table season that will benefit them in the long run. But there's no way they'll be willing to forgo the instant gratification of trophies and a high finish.

I think a plurality of fans won't be willing to accept that either despite their call for more youth involvement.

The manager has the impossible task of achieving mutually exclusive outcomes.
