Rumours say that the club are fearful that Simone would be another Mourinho. Defensive and confrontational.

They want someone who's calmer.

If that's true then those in charge of appointing the manager are a bunch of imbeciles because they want someone passive rather than someone who's passionate and wears his heart on his sleeve.

We should always appoint the best manager based on his credentials, not based on his personality and the attitude he encompasses.

Surely the board aren't that narrow-minded?

They had a manager who was passionate and a skipper who was passionate. Both will have left in the space of 6 months.

Think it's all very well being passionate but you have to know when to draw the line and unfortunately with Jose, he didn't.

I love passion in sport. When you see the likes of JT, Lamps, Drogba, any Chelsea player for that matter, celebrating after massive performances and achievements - it's what we all strive for and enjoy about football. And some of the best memories of Jose were first time around, early days when he was jumping up and down, giving Liverpool fans stick in the league cup final, celebrating with the fans - All Great.

But what he became this season was not great. I don't want a passive "yes-man" but I also don't want someone who is so confrontational and has the same siege mentality philosophy. What has been so refreshing since Hiddink came in is his calmness and as Mikel touched on, the atmosphere being a whole lot better.

What we really need is someone with Jose's passion and winning mentality with Hiddink and Ancelotti's calmness and personality. f**k knows who that is though.........!!

I like the idea of Simeone. A lot like Mou without the extra bullsh*t.

If he can bring Griezmann with him I'll be over the moon.

If by the extra BS you mean the confrontation and conflict outside the pitch, then with Simeona you can have double of that. He was suspended for 8 games after a supercup final, and then 2 games suspended after the CL final against R Madrid.

No, extra bullsh*t as in the conflict inside the team which tears the place apart and effects performance.

Haven't seen any of that from Simeone.

That is true, you don't hear about bad atmosphere between players or with him. There was some issues between Simeone and Mandzukic an also with Ribas, but they were dealt with inside and not much was heard about.

Get simeone and he may want some of trusted generals from Atleti, wouldn't mind Griezmann, and Koke, if money supercedes the need foe CL for oe year, then dangle dsome big golden carrots....

The thing is, until very recently wasn't that one of the secretes to Jose's success, players would run through brick walls for him. He would build amazing team spirit?

The issue is not with the manager, its with the club philosophy. The manager should be trusted over the player, Ferguson who is regarded as one of the greatest managers had run ins with Ince, Stam, Beackham, RVN and Kean, save the last name all were still very much in there prime and all were shipped out because there is only room for one chief in the dressing room and he can't seen to have his authority undermined. If you wanted to play for united it was because ferguson willed it so, if you you crossed the boss, you where out , again because Ferguson willed it so.

No other manager now will get this kind of power and there for every manager will be subject to whims of the players

But the problem is it only lasts for so long with Jose where ever he goes, you can't turn over 11 or so players every couple of years. Especially when these are very good players in their prime. It has to be a two way street.

I also don't think it's got anything to do with club philosophy, Jose lost the group. You can't eat your own(like throwing players under the bus publically, the embarassing Eva stuff etc) and expect everything to be smooth sailing. I'm sure a lot of this could have been avoided.

Jorge Sampaoli emerges as genuine contender for Chelsea job as Diego Simeone interest cools, this is being reported in several sources also that Roman is seeking the advice of, guess who...........Avram Grant.

God help us, this is wrong. Roman really needs some help with his advisors.

The final decision will be made by Abramovich, technical director Michael Emenalo and director Marina Granovskaia, although the Russian billionaire has also taken soundings from former Chelsea manager Avram Grant.

Wow.

Don't know if that's the blind leading the blind or the parasitic hangers-on leading the meal ticket.

Admittedly my knowledge of South American football is limited (to say the least), but I like what I've read about Sampaoli. He seems intelligent, courageous, and tactically progressive and versatile. His Chile side were balanced in that they were combative but were still really enjoyable to watch. He seemed somewhat like a less extreme [lunatic?] version of Bielsa, with the addition that he actually wins trophies. Clearly he would be a gamble considering his lack of European experience, but to be perfectly honest I haven't heard a candidate yet who wouldn't be a gamble on some level.

That said, I would very much like to hear the opinion of someone with a more thorough knowledge of Chilean football.

Jorge Luis Sampaoli Moya (Spanish pronunciation: [?xorxe sampa?oli]; born 13 March 1960), is an Argentine football manager. Sampaoli started out as a youth player and eventually switched to management due to a severe injury. Sampaoli started with an impressive managerial period at Coronel Bolognesi in 2006, and then again with a brief but successful period at O'Higgins and Emelec.

Sampaoli definitively consecrated as a head coach in 2011 and 2012 with Universidad de Chile, winning three league titles and the Copa Sudamericana championship. This success led him to coach the Chilean men's national team in 2013, replacing the previous coach. He led the Chilean national football team to their first Copa América title, after defeating Argentina in the final in the 2015 edition in Chile. He is well known for his attacking tactics, similar to those of Marcelo Bielsa according to the press and fans alike.

There we go,futures sorted.

You raise a valid point - could the hypothetical Chile expert also clarify how to pronounce 'Jorge'? My knowledge of Spanish phonemes is even worse than my knowledge of South American football.

Is it 'hor-heh' or 'hor-jeh' or 'jor-jeh'?
