Posted May 18, 20168 yr Conte apparently with verbal agreement with both Juventus and Asamoah to bring in the Ghanaian to Chelsea. Apparently practically a done deal. Rumours also have it that it may be a straight exchange of clubs between Asamoah and Cuadrado. Biggest issue is his recent injury history: Missed an entire season through injury. Just under 1200 minutes of football for him in the past two years. http://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2016/5/11/11655674/kwadwo-asamoah-juventus-chelsea-2016-serie-a-epl-summer-transfer-rumors http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/671591/Chelsea-Transfer-News-Kwadwo-Asamoah-Juventus-Verbal-Agreement-Antonio-Conte Edited May 18, 20168 yr by Jon Stakes
May 18, 20168 yr what is his playing style and which position does he play? Does it matter? With his injury record he'll be part of our proud Chelsea tradition of signing crocked players :-)
May 18, 20168 yr Author what is his playing style and which position does he play? He played as a wingback or left midfielder under Conte. Primarily a left-fielded player with very good close ball control and top notch passing range. Not an explosive player like Essien, very low key actually, quietly gets about his business. Very tidy with possession. very hard to dispossess and very reliable. Not the eye-catching type of player (although he has his moments), but makes a reliable backbone of any team. Juventus fans very much like him and treasure him, but he's the type of player a non-fan may just not notice. Conte is a known admirer, so this deal comes as no surprise, but even I see it as a high risk one... Pretty versatile: Can play as: left winger, left midfielder, left wingback, left back, deep lying playmaker, defensive midfielder, box-to-box midfielder. Edited May 18, 20168 yr by Jon Stakes
May 18, 20168 yr I've only seen him at left wing back, so either we are switching to 352, or he is being brought in to play left back. It's anyone's guess I suppose. Good player though and physically powerful.

Good player though and physically powerful. I could also see him in a 4-3-3 or part of a pivot. Don't think left back would be his best position... wing back and left back are pretty different positions though...
May 18, 20168 yr Seen him play for Juventus a fair few times, pretty uninspiring, I would rather keep Cuadrado.

May 18, 20168 yr He's not going to set the world alight. Loads of work rate but technically he's pretty average. Usually plays left wing back or further up. I suppose these are the signings you make when there is no CL football
May 19, 20168 yr Author Sounds like Ramires, except on the wing. Ehm... he is nothing like Ramires. He's not a livewire nor is he a headless chicken. He's actually pretty restrained, very cool and very intelliigent with positoning. Also Asamoah has ca 90% passing rate and is very composed with his passing. Essentially he;s not as limited as Ramires, more of a all-round good footballer. Rarely explosive or a gamechanger, not a leader, more like a team player. If I were to compare him to anyone with regards to style it would be part Mikel, part Robert Pires. And anyone who claims Kwadwo Asamoah is technically average either has never seen him play or knows nothing about football. He is very good technically - shooting, passing, crossing, dribbling, ball control. All the traits of a good technician That's exactly why Conte rates him so highly... A quote from WIki based on an Italian paper's piece on him: "A hardworking, energetic and tactically versatile player, Asamoah is primarily known for his pace, strength, stamina, and his outstanding technical, physical, and athletic characteristics; these attributes allow him to be effective both offensively and defensively, and enable him to play in several positions along the pitch, although he primarily serves as a ball-winner. A predominantly left-footed player, he is also very agile, and is a neat passer and a skilful dribbler." Edited May 19, 20168 yr by Jon Stakes
May 19, 20168 yr Again because someone has a different opinion on a player you spit the dummy out and say they know nothing about football. Stop being such an arrogant little twat.
May 19, 20168 yr Author Again because someone has a different opinion on a player you spit the dummy out and say they know nothing about football. Stop being such an arrogant little twat. Ok. Sorry. But Kwadwo Asamoah's defining trait is his technical ability with the ball. Ask any Juve fan. He may be called ineffective, lazy, non-infuential, etc., but not 'technically average'. It's not a matter of opinion. His technical quality is exactly why he's a 20-25 mln EUR rated midfielder. If anything he's the exact opposite. Not enough work rate but technically excellent. May 19, 20168 yr Author Just what we need.... LOL Thing is... that's exactly not the type of player Asamoah is...
May 19, 20168 yr Just what we need.... LOL He done ok in Italy but I can’t help think the pace of that league suited his style, exactly like how it is with Cuadrado. At Chelsea in this league you get no time on the ball and the play is a few gears above what these players are used to. He’d be better than Baba in the left wing back role if that’s the route we go down with Conte but he’s not someone that stands out in the game. Decent squad filler but that’s about it IMO.
May 19, 20168 yr Have to agree that he has great technique and us a good passer, but I would rather see him come in as an attacking full back than a centre midfielder.
May 19, 20168 yr Author Fair assessment. But i think he can fit in the first team. An upgrade on Matic, Mikel, Oscar, Baba... Would suggest Conte may to 343. OT I know Salah od Gervinho did well in Italy but honestly how much time to adjust did we give Cuadrado? He may be another KDB, Lukaku or Djilobodji.
May 19, 20168 yr Author No insult to the player, just hope this is rumor and nothing more. Italian press is widely reporting this. It seems more than just a rumour. If he didn't have such injury-ridden past two seasons I would be happy, but as it is I concur.
May 19, 20168 yr I'd rather persist with Baba rather than having a cast off second choice, bit part player.
