Then you must have an incredibly short memory. How anyone can say Lukakus hold up play is better than Costa`s is beyond me.

Costa's hold up play was better now Lukaku's is better. I have been watching Lukaku for several weeks and not only is he scoring goals, he is holding up the ball well, running past player and literally bullying them. Costa loses so much duels it is crazy. Today just summed it up.

Hi Yorkey, do you mind quoting me next time as i almost missed this. I posted this video as this is the match in which everyone was getting on his back for. I think you should go and watch it again.

00:22 - Holds off the Utd centre back, retains possession and lays off the CM to break starting an attack.

00:26 - Quick pass out wide to keep Everton in possession.

00:28 - Same as first point, holds off CB, lays off to team mate to spark attack.

00:33 - Average first touch yet still gets the pass off.

00:36 - Does well to turn the defender and leave him for dead, should have cut the ball back sooner.

00:49 - Wins the header and flicks on to team mates.

00:55 - Runs the channel well, should have cut it back instead of shooting. Team mates were hardly busting a gut to give him an option though.

1:19 - 1:28 - Holds up play whilst everton can get forward and lays off passes.

1:29 - Poor vision, should have looked up and passed.

1:46 - Holds off the defender and wins a foul.

1:48 - Very sloppy.

1:55 - Prime example off being on his own and no other option, look at Barkley just jogging up.

2:05 - Good hold up play.

2:19 - Draws the foul.

2:25 - Poor touch.

2:30 - Very dangerous ball into the box, no one gambling.

2:39 - Poor touch.

2:41 - Another great ball into the box, again no team mates gambling.

2:48 - Wins the flick on.

2:54 - Holds off defender, keeps Everton in possession.

3:04 - Holds Utd defenders off until someone can come and support and lays off the pass.

3:12 - Wins the first ball against 2 defenders, not much to do there.

3:16 - Spins defender and breaks. Once again everton player jogging at back post not offering a square ball.

3:36 - Loses ball, looks knackered.

3:43 - Wins knock on again, no everton player around supporting for the second ball. Are you seeing a recurring theme here yet??

3:47 - Beats defender to ball and plays in team mate.

As i said, i wasn't using this clip to claim he is brilliant. People were slating him after this game saying he was shocking, analyse it a bit further and he wasn't.

If you would like me to break down another match for you i would be perfectly happy to do so pal. Possibly the game against Chelsea when he made Cahill look like a league 2 player?

When you look back on it, Costa's performance against United yesterday makes Lukaku's performance against United the other night like Drogba's constant bullying of the Arsenal defence. Like you said Lukaku posed United a lot of problems. It is just that his decision making in final third let him down but he held up ball well, ran past their defence a few times and was a problem. Costa lost every duel to Rojo and Bailly and messed up every move. Lukaku is so much more of an athlete as well. It would benefit us in long run. Lukaku has scored 7 more goals in league now. I just want him here next season. And hopefully Costa's performances in recent matches has made Conte's mind up about going for him.

Right now even Shane Long is better than Costa, so I'm not buying the Lukaku will be the starting striker for us next season just yet. I reckon we will spend 100+M on 2 strikers next season, if we manage to offload Costa.

So you dont rate Kane, lukaku, dont think much of Costa. Mate, can I ask you Who exactly do u think is capable of leading our line? Messi, suarez, CR, Benzema, Lewa? I mean those 3 names (Kane, Lukaku, Costa) would be in the top 10-15 strikers in the world list currently.

If you want to settle for the top 10-15 in the world, then go ahead, and you'll be happy with Lukaku.  Me, I prefer to aim higher than that.

They can demand £100m if they like but with the way Lukaku is pushing i think they'd sell for closer to £65-70m. Either way it is a lot of money to spend on one player, however this is the same market in which Oscar went for 60m and Costa is likely to go for 90m.

Tell me the player that you want us to sign. Its easy to say "if you want to settle.....". Name the players that are better than costa/lukaku/kane who you want us to sign and are realistic options.

Bellotti

The w**k fest over Belotti after one good season is ridiculous. I guarantee that 90% of the people raving about him have only seen his goal scoring record and the occasional youtube montage. Lets be honest, it'll be very rare to find someone that watches Torino religiously. May as well sign Al Somah for Al Ahli whilst we're at it. 102 goals in 97 appearances over the last three years.

So Bellotti is ahead of Kane, Costa and Lukaku? You're taking the piss

I misread I thought he only said Lukaku (no point bringing Kane into any discussion that involves transfers). Out of the two neither are yet finished articles but if I had to gamble on one finishing to the level of a team challenging at the very, very top I would say the Italian, I think he has the better overall skills set required.

My belief with Lukaku is when he signs for a top club given a couple of years the manager will be looking to upgrade the striker position. If he signs for us I'll be praying I'm proved wrong, if he goes United I'll be praying I'm proved right, just the way it is.

Bellotti

23 year old italian who has had 1 good season vs a 23 year old PL proven striker who has been top5 (IIRC) in PL for the last 4/5years i think. Seems fair.

And Belotti is an upgrade on costa or better than lukaku and kane?

This. Seriously cant believe some of the opinions. If you just read the comments, you would think we were 10th, not 1st with 4 points in hand.

I think that's been the issue here. People or persons aren't happy with Lukaku because he's not world class but who are we gonna sign that is? No point talking about Benzema, Lewandowski, Suarez, Neymar, Dybala, Higuain or Aguero either. So who does that leave us with? Cavani, Griezmann, Lacazette, Icardi, Morata? A Costa Griezmann swap deal would be nice but I have a hard time thinking we'll get the same value in that deal as we would with China. I'd take Lukaku over all of those except Morata and he has his detractors as well.

If we'd consider spending that cash on Lukaku, I'd hope the club would be ambitious enough to try and lure Griezmann here instead.

Problem with buying Griezman is you would need another striker. Hes not a 9 and plays either as a secondary striker or winger.

We went through this when we signed Costa. Some posters claimed he "wasnt good enough for Chelsea" and that we should aim higher etc. When pressed on alternatives it was either something unrealistic like Lewandowski or pay less for someone like Immobile who was "just as good" ( loooooool btw) Its an exercise in futility. Its Lukaku, Morata or Belotti that we can aim, any other players are either a tier below or unavailable. If you dont think they are "good enough" for Chelsea thats fine, but they are the best alternatives out there and beats relying on Batshuayi and Abraham.

Agree with a lot of this. Although I do think greizmann could play up top with hazard and pedro. He has played alot this season with carrasco, neither of them are out and out strikers. Then maybe bring in a cheap back up like llorente, or keep faith with batshuayi, or put faith in tammy.

Costa performance last night made Lukaku a MUST BUY now.

Lukaku wants to go but Everton for sure will put a high price tag on him. Will Abramovich spend that much?

No way we will be paying anywhere near 100M to buy Lukaku, United may be up for it since over spending is their only solution at moment. That fat super agent just done the Pogba deal, wouldn't be surprised if he write another record breaking deal with United again.

Like I said previous I misread and thought you just said Lukaku.

Torres was a PL proven striker and we know what happened there. Not saying Lukaku is about to suffer the same fall from grace but signing from the prem is no less risky than signing abroad.

Yes as it stands Bellotti has only one year of top level but that was also true with Drogba and Costa (Kante too). Also at the point we signed Torres,  Falcao only had half a good year in the Portuguese league.

That is an argument I hate, it was the same reason a lot of people wanted to keep Mourinho because well "who could we get better"? There was a lot of options that would have done good with the squad of players we have and the board found one of them.

We as fans didn't have Conte's name on our radar and there must be some very good potentially top strikers (which is the level Lukaku is at himself) that we aren't obviously aware off for a fraction of the price Romelu would cost, that's were Conte and his staff earn there money.

How do you lot not realize that Griezmann is a SS, not an out an out CF? That's like asking the club to sign Muller and sticking him up front for a whole season. Come on now. Even Bayern have never done that apart from the occasional tactical switch mid match. Griezmann shouldn't be anywhere near this discussion. We need a pure CF.

Absolutely no chance we pay 100mil for Lukaku when we can get Morata for 50m. Get Morata and support him with Abraham. If Lukaku's anything more than 65m, it would be madness to even consider the deal any further. 100mil is just pure greed. The lad isn't worth anything near that. Hell, he's hardly worth f**king 65mil. They want a new stadium and they want us to pay for it. f**k all of that. Morata's always been the best option anyway.
