Following Our Nearest & Dearest Rivals, 2016/2017

I'm going to put on the conspiracy theory hat to say Wenger & Sanchez had a fall out, and Sanchez was benched as a statement ( or punishment). There's no sense tactically to not starting Sanchez, for god sake Iweobi was picked. We better call his agent again if we haven't done that already.

Zlatan's elbow was as good as it could get in a MMA match, if he doesn't get suspended no one should get suspended for the rest of the season.

so was it a 10-8 round for Ibra?

Wenger's anger at a player that actually wants to win daring to shout at his poor little lambs. what a pathetic spineless club and manager, they finally sign a winner who makes demands of his team and then wenger drops him for it.

Arsenal finishing 4th and Utd and Liverpool missing out on the Champions league is my biggest hope from now on. Hate Utd and Liverpool and top 4 could mean a contract extension for Wenger. Fingers crossed and all that. :good2:

Couldn't think of anywhere else to post this.

BT Sport has extended its TV rights for the Champions League and Europa League until 2021 in a deal worth £1.2bn.

The company has been broadcasting Europe's elite club competitions since 2015 under the terms of an £897m deal agreed in 2013.

BT Sport, owned by Britain's biggest broadband and mobile operator BT, is a paid subscription service.

But it said it would make clips, weekly highlights, and both finals available to watch for free on social media.

The new deal gives BT Sport exclusivity across all live games and highlights for the first time - meaning there will be no weekly highlights shown on free-to-air broadcaster ITV.

Europe's top four domestic leagues are to be guaranteed four places each in the group stages of the Champions League from the 2018-19 season.

Other changes to the competition will see 'double-header' nights in the group stage, with matches kicking off at both 18:00 and 20:00 UK time.

The current top four leagues according to European governing body Uefa's rankings are Spain, Germany, England and Italy.

Under the present system, England, Germany and Spain have three places each while their fourth-placed teams must win a play-off to qualify.

So with 4 places being guaranteed in the top 4 leagues does this mean a team in another league will miss out? If so does anyone know which league?

Probably France or Portugal (or both) since they are next up in the pecking order.

Sunday supplement panel on the madness Arsenal dropping Sanchez for Liverpool

http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11670/10791237/alexis-sanchez-starting-on-bench-for-arsenal-was-madness-say-sunday-supplement-panel

Can I just say how I hate this line though "It's the worst I have seen Arsenal play at Anfield in 20 years. They were appalling in the first half, it changed in the second half and you can see what he was doing with Sanchez."

Did he miss the game in 2014 when Liverpool beat them 5-1 then? I just find comments like that are lazy journalism.

In any case we now know why Sanchez was dropped. I think it's a safe bet that he's off in the Summer. I know there are those of us who want him here but I'm starting to wonder do we really want a player who sulks like that? Can you imagine if he'd been in the team last season and we'd still struggled as such.

Last season was an anomaly. With Arsenal its the "NORM". They accept mediocrity and even rejoice it. I think thats Sanchez's beef (or I hope it is). This is his 3rd season there (I think) and every season has panned out the same exact way. Any player with any ambition to actually succeed in life and win trophies will feel aggrieved.

I get he's not happy about that but does throwing your gloves off or hands in the air help the situation? I just think players that act like that tend to sulk when things go bad. It's not a great character trait.

I know last season was an anomaly with us but it does make me wonder if he'd have done this sort of thing for us then.

Fair enough.

My point is simply that I can understand his tantrums. Its not just "things go bad", its "things go bad again and in a very similar manner, with no one doing anything to improve the situation". Thats bound to create a lot of frustration.

I get your point. But I am simply giving Sanchez the benefit of doubt here. He started acting up after 2 and a half years of mediocrity. If this was his first season, then I would have questioned it too, but like i said, simply giving him the benefit of doubt.

6pm kick offs for CL? Terrible timing - particular for families. Everyone will still be getting in from work and eating dinner. Ridiculous.

Totally respect and understand your point too mate. I do agree that I can see why he's having these tantrums but then that other part of my brain says what kind of person does that? That's all it is. If we signed him I'd be ecstatic, would he brilliant for the rivalry too.

Zlatan have just been charged by the FA for his elbow on Mings so he will very likely miss mondays gameagainst us.

More cash for the suits at the FA (who never declare what the fine money is spent on), they don't care if he meant it or not

Let's say we finish fifth but win the EL. Does the team in fourth get to qualify for CL or get immediately "relegated" to the EL?

I think La liga had 5 teams in CL this season. Winner of europa gets CL qualification irrespective of other teams of the same league (IIRC)

Zlatan has just provided them a full proof excuse for the defeat next Monday, I was really looking forward to that match to gauge where the other two best sides are so i could analyze how close/far behind we are, Shame as i can only see one type of game now. Liverpool are Liverpool, Arsenal are Arsenal and the hand shake posse are the hand shake posse, I don't care how well that lot are playing i never really concern myself with them because of their track record.
