Having seen Frank's (immaculate) press conference, and reading between the lines, I suspect Frank had a good look at Luiz in pre-season and wasn't entirely enamoured of his performances and/or his attitude. In his press conference, Frank said he had always appreciated honesty from his managers as a player, and he said he was honest and open with Luiz. This suggests to me that Frank was the initiator in all of this, though a poor attitude from Luiz may suggest he wasn't particularly keen on playing for Lampard. He told Luiz he wasn't convinced by him or he wasn't exactly what he wanted as a CB, and Luiz said fine, I'll go to Arsenal, and Frank said fine. It sounds like it was pretty amicable. The fact we only got £8m for a player of his pedigree suggests Frank was desperate to see him go, and he didn't care where. It rankles a bit but so long as Frank's happy I'm happy and I believe he's a lot happier without Luiz stinking up the joint. just to keep it crystal clear what Super Frank said: There are no #1 or #2's - I am sure Side Show Bob wasn't happy to take a step back or wasn't fighting hard enough for Frank's tastes. Side Show Bob got on his stump & requested a transfer to a nicer situation. I hope he likes coming up short. Edited August 9, 20196 yr by robdog

I don’t think he was a great player, decent but not great. He’s on the downward spiral. Our team will not be greatly weakened by his departure. Arsenal will not be greatly strengthened by his arrival. Frank doesn’t fancy him, Luiz wants to play, moves to another team, end off. That's pretty much how I feel. As always, people will contrive reasons to be offended over him wanting to play and not spend the twilight of his career sitting on the sub's bench, but it seems to have been the best solution for both parties.

August 10, 20196 yr If it was amicable then fine. No hard feelings, thanks for all the memories and trophies. Was part of the CL winning team despite playing whilst injured. Wish the geezer all the best in life but hopefully will drop a clanger or two when the sides meet.
August 11, 20196 yr I think the circumstances of his departure will tarnish his legacy. I'm always appreciative of his contribution to the club, particularly his role in the 2012 Champions League Final and his performances over the 2016/2017 season but his decision to go to Arsenal leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. However, I'm fully supportive of Frank's decision to move him on especially if he feared he would be a disruptive influence in the dressing room. I trust Frank has the club's best interests at heart here. Short term, I think we will feel the effects of his departure considering the transfer ban that hangs over us, but long-term I think this will be the right call made by the club. It's highly unlikely Luiz would have improved at his age.
November 19, 20205 yr News of a fiery altercation at Arsenal training has emerged with David Luiz reportedly hitting team-mate Dani Ceballos in the face, drawing blood from the midfielder. The Brazilian defender took exception to a tackle from the Spaniard at the end of a squad practice match last Friday, striking Ceballos on the nose and knocking him to the floor. A report in The Athletic reveals that Ceballos quickly rose to his feet before both players were separated by staff and team-mates and the pair were sent home from training - however Ceballos has branded the report 'FAKE' on his Twitter account on Thursday evening.
