August 8, 20196 yr there's a mixed bag of very naive posters on this thread and a few sussed individuals- So pray tell, the club has just decided to let a valuable asset & experienced player leave on the last day of the window for a knock down fee to a direct rival with no possibility of replacing him because the manager merely told him he wouldn't be first choice, leaving the cover for CB in a rather precarious position until Rudy is match ready. Or perhaps the player has had heated words with the manager and behaved badly within the group, so like any good manager should do, FL has let the player (and in turn the squad) know that he is the gaffer. In turn and as it should be the club is backing FL, and thus the last minute cut rate transfer to a top 4 & London rival. We shall never get the truth, it will be spun. So can either pretend Luiz is great for doing this as its justified by wanting game time or see it for what it is a self centered move that lets the side down.

And how do you know the fee is £8 million, might there not be add-ons? How would letting him rot in the reserves help anybody? FFS Scott, you''re smarter than this hysterical BS based on no factual knowledge whatsoever. I'm going with the most likely scenario, and that for me is that Luiz wants out and it's something that has happened very recently. I can't imagine that Chelsea or Lampard would choose to get rid of Luiz in our current situation if the player wasn't the one pushing for this move. Yes, I can't be 100% sure that it's a fact, but I'm confident enough in my belief that it's Luiz pushing for this given the situation we are currently in. As for me saying let him rot in the reserves, I am saying I would rather do that than sell him to Arsenal and for such a tiny amount of money, not that I would actaully let him rot in the reserves, it's more me saying I would never sell him to Arsenal.
August 8, 20196 yr Gallas was a class centre back. Solid at left back when played there as well. He was better than Carvalho when the latter arrived but Carvalho grew and improved while at Chelsea whereas Gallas was moved on.

There is a difference between Luiz pushing this - which just means he wants away, without us knowing when he asked the club for a transfer - and the assumption of many people he demanded a new club to the point of holding the board ransome 1 day before the transfer deadline. People are filling in the blanks and then throw hissy fits over their own imagined scenarios. And no, I don't like him going to Arsenal, but I'm not blaming him for his choice (we don't even know how many options he had in the first place), and I'm not losing any sleep over it either.

Why would he sign a 2 year extension then put in a request shortly after? He is pushing now because he wasn’t going to get started, he also wouldn’t have been played vs Barcelona etc if he had put in an early transfer. What you’re saying is counter to every logic that people have used to understand what’s going on, Scott’s scenario is how everyone including “in the know” journos have read into it , no one would assume what you’ve said because it makes no sense in context of the events and timeline.
August 8, 20196 yr We have a young an influential squad. I would have liked him to stay and use his experience and (stated) love of Chelsea to help mentor some of the younger players. If there was any thought that his attitude might poison the younger players or undermine the manager, I can see where we might want to get him out. He could have stayed and fought for his place realizing that players get hurt, or young players might experience a dip in form. But he chose to bail out at the first sign of things not going his way. I don't see the logic in selling him to a club that will rival us for a top 4 spot. They are weak defensively, so we sell them a defender. I don't get it, but then again, I haven't understood the previous times when we sold players to rivals...…. Edited August 8, 20196 yr by Boston Blue

For me, this is worse than the Courtois situation. Courtois never had the same kind of connection with the fans and club like Luiz had. Luiz has dumped all over that though. People say he doesn't deserve boo's when he returns to the Bridge, but I wouldn't complain one bit if that is how the fans react to this. How would you expect fans to react to a player pulling a stunt like this? It's unreasonable to expect fans to not be anything but pissed at Luiz for this. So if they boo him on his return, then they should be allowed to do that without criticism. Agree with this 100%, Im fine with him getting some stick when he comes back, obviously nothing too over the top, but its football at the end of the day, it is panto, and luiz leaving through the back door to that lot, has made him the panto villian. Im sure when he's finished his career he will be welcomed back, as even gallas and poyet have been in the end. On his day he is a great player, and considering the sh*t in arsenal's back 4, i think he will improve them, which is why i wouldve forced him to go elsewhere. How much of a loss it is for us really depends on whether Christiansen or Zouma, can have an outstanding season. When Guardiola took over Barcelona, he got rid of Ronaldinho, everyone questioned it at the time, but what it did was establish an authority, and i feel Luiz being shown the door will work out favourably for lampard in the long term. At the end if the day, if a player isnt willing fight for his place in the team, i dont really want them here. Let them get there massive ego's massaged somewhere else. Thanks for the good times DL, its a shame its ended line this.

I'm pretty certain Luiz found out he wasn't starting on Sunday. Caused a stink. Lampard reacted by getting rid. Luiz pushed himself out the door and at the point when he could have been a dignified senior member of the squad, he pushed against it. For me, shame. But he's clearly a poison that had to go and I'm glad he has.
August 8, 20196 yr I'm guessing we're not looking to play out from the back this season then? Neither Zouma or Christianson have much composure on the ball. I think this may end up in tears.

August 8, 20196 yr Bit sad in all truth, just as I was when he left for PSG the first time. A player I thought bled Chelsea blue. Shame. Life goes on, we have a side now in transition and a new era is upon us, so let's hope these young players we have step up to the plate.
August 8, 20196 yr Glad to see the back of him in all honesty, I’ve been quite vocal of having stated that I don’t believe he’s a good defender and was helped massively by the players he played alongside and particularly in Contes system. I think he would have instilled negative characteristics in our younger players if he stated and potentially rubbed off on them. i thank him for his service and the trophies he’s helped us win, but I can’t say I feel any great affection for him. If it’s true he forced this move because he wasn’t guaranteed to start every week then it’s quite a dick move!

I'll see if I can find the tweet or article that I had read, maybe they have an explanation for the 12m figure.
