Steve Holland leaving?

Featured Replies

McLaren and Neville combined manager roles with being England assistant yet Holland cant be Chelsea and England assistant? Logic right there.

Maybe he has seen too much going ons and wants out. He never looks happy. Maybe his role at CFC has been lowered. Anyway best of luck to him in his part time role.

Been a great servant to the club.

Steve Holland will become England assistant manager on a full-time basis from the end of the season.

The Football Association confirmed Holland’s role today, but he will remain with Chelsea as one of Antonio Conte’s assistant coaches until the end of the current campaign, apart from for two England fixtures in March when he will join up with Gareth Southgate and the Three Lions squad. He will not be replaced at Chelsea.

Holland said: ‘It is the ultimate honour to be asked to work with your national team into a World Cup campaign.

‘My immediate focus is on continuing to support Antonio and the Chelsea team, and doing everything possible to finish the season with success.

‘The summer will be the time to look forward to an exciting future with Gareth and England and to reflect on the best eight years of my life at Chelsea. For now the next game is Bournemouth.’

Southgate and Holland previously worked together at international level for the Under-21s. Following the departure of Sam Allardyce in September, the pair stepped up to take charge of the senior team initially on an interim basis and they will now continue that work with the first goal qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Holland was originally appointed as Chelsea’s reserve team manager in August 2009, enjoying success at that level when we became national champions in 2011. He was promoted to assistant first team coach, initially under Andre Villas-Boas, and he has continued in that position since, helping the club achieve glory on domestic and European fronts.

But he is a great coach. Cannot see it happening tho. Conte will get his own choice unless JT is being lined up?

Is he? I was always under the impression he was at the club for player relations more than anything, every time he's a commentator or pundit i cringe at some of the simplistic stuff he comes out with.

There is many stories regarding Ray's sacking, but the one i find most believable is the one when he responded to Roman's criticism of our teams recent performances with "we won the double for god sake, what more do you want?", if that was the attitude of one our coaches no wonder the players got so complacent and stagnated.

lol what?

As for Holland i suppose he felt a bit isolated among the Italian coaching staff so can't really blame him for wanting to work in an environment with his own kind. England gig also seem pretty easy.

quite surprised at any animosity towards butch, he was a blue and Ancelotti well rated him, spoke really highly of him in his auto biography. I reckon his sacking cost Chelsea the defence of the title that season, Ancelotti and the team were never the same afterwards. I also remember when he took charge for one game, think it was a cup tie that chelsea won, you could really see what it meant to him.

Seems a decent guy when interviewed and doing punditory on games, he's got and had personel problems, but let's not forget he's Chelsea through and through like the rest of us, and if he hadn't signed for united back in the day, we may never of still got a Chelsea. As a 9 yr old he was the first player I was ever gutted about us selling.

I respect him as part of our history I just don't think he's this amazing coach that was made out and some of the stuff he says as a pundit and commentator backs that up.

We were already floundering that season, Ray leaving coincided with it showing in results but with or without him that season was going down the pan.
