He was still young and learning, he could ping a ball 60 yards and find a teammate on a regular basis, he had a hell of a shot on him, he was the closest we had to another Lampard. He proved himself more than capable on loan, with 10 goals, but Mourinho just didn't give him enough of a chance. Same with lots of players. Same with RLC. How is any young player - still maturing, still learning and adapting - supposed to prove themselves with a few minutes here and a few minutes there? Jose won the league, yes, but he went massively short-term to do so. If he'd looked at the long-term picture, we may not have won the league under him that season, but we may have been in a much healthier position squad wise then we ended up being, and won more in the future as a result. It's impossible to say, but it is not true to say it's only looking like a mistake in hindsight, when it was clear as day he was going to become a top player. Don't talk sense as Yorkley wont like it. Edited December 22, 20178 yr by Ernie_blue

Interesting read from some bloke called John Terry, reported in several places, that none of the "biggest mistake in footballing history, never given a chance, blah blah blah" revisionistas have bothered to post in here as it doesn't conform to their narrative. http://metro.co.uk/2017/12/18/john-terry-no-regrets-chelsea-sold-kevin-de-bruyne-romelu-lukaku-mohamed-salah-7169940/ Relevant part for me is where JT says, in direct quotes, "Despite their respective incredible upturns since leaving Chelsea, former Blues captain Terry believes there should be no regrets at Stamford Bridge. ‘Not really, because at the time they didn’t make our team stronger,’ he told Sky Sports when asked if they should regret selling them. ‘Let’s not forget we were one of the best teams probably the Premier League has ever seen, in them early days when they arrived. ‘So they was coming into one of the best sides which was even more difficult. ‘When they come in can they make a big enough impact to sustain and keep their place? No, it’s very difficult to do." The emboldening is me! So, do I accept the whining from some people because some players got better when they got older and more experienced, or do I respect the opinion of the greatest Chelsea icon of the recent era? My money is on JT. I thank you. ‘Let’s not forget we were one of the best teams probably the Premier League has ever seen, in them early days when they arrived" I love JT but surely he has his years majorly mistaken there.
December 22, 20178 yr When you see Arsenal play like this it's a mystery how we have had a mixed bag of results against them lately

December 22, 20178 yr Wow, Liverpool are just enjoying their football, they do whatever they want. Sanchez can't find a player, Lacazette is always alone, Iwobi can't stop losing balls and I won't talk about Ozil, worst player on the pitch.
December 22, 20178 yr Arsenal have been really poor. I actually thought they had a decent start but they kept trying long balls to Lacazette - not very Wenger
December 22, 20178 yr Salah should have had 2 and Firmino missed that header, could have this game won already. Normally means Arsenal will win it now, as much as i dont rate Wellbeck at least he gets the basics right. Edited December 22, 20178 yr by Ernie_blue
December 22, 20178 yr What a terrible advert for the Premier League in that first half. Not much skill on display by either side and Arsenal are a shambles.
December 22, 20178 yr Even as a fan who hates Arsenal and finds it funny when they do sh*t, I am disgusted by Ozil's lack of effort.
December 22, 20178 yr that was a great goal - like De Bruyne, Salah showed none of this ability when he was with us
December 22, 20178 yr haha, that was going into cechs hands without the deflection. Edited December 22, 20178 yr by Ernie_blue
