f**k me, was there really a time when Oscar was rated as a better player than KDB (and Coutinho)?!!

Seems a LONG time ago that.

All we can hope is that the club has learnt from the costly mistake in the case of KDB (and now it appears Salah too) and that we give players a bit more time in future or at least make sure we have that much talked about buy-back clause.

Before we had Kante, we had Oscar charging all over the pitch and closing the opposition down. I never saw pitch coverage figures for him yet in many matches I thought his work rate was phenomenal and even wondered if it was detrimental to other aspects of his game. Looking at KDB now his competition for a place would not have been Oscar it would have been Super Frank.

KDB used to be a No. 10 for us. Pep converted him into a CM this season, last season he was still a playmaking No. 10 playing on the right iirc.

Oscar was outperforming them both easily at the time.

True, but even back then, a lot of us were pointing out that Oscar started season's well and then faded badly in the second half of it. It may have been a bit shortsighted selling these players. At the same time though, we have won 2 league titles and a league cup, so we can't complain that much. Who knows, we may have won nothing if we had those players over the ones we have now.

Even if Pep walks the league this year I would put Conte's achievement in winning the league last year above it for a number of reasons, first year in a foreign league, didnt join up with the squad until a much later stage, the boards failure in securing a number of key targets & most importantly identifying a dysfunctional system and making drastic changes successfully. (which are being replicated across various leagues now)

Was he really?

mata was the poty in the season before and then either shafted down the right or on the bench.

kdb on the other hand had a massive 4 starts and 425 minutes to prove his worth (that too as a 6th AM).

I don't think oscar was outperforming them, he was simply getting opportunities to perform. Also the latter half of 13-14 was probably the worst phase of osxar's chelsea career.

I think we all look back at Oscar's time and agree he flattered to deceive. There was THAT goal against Juventus and a few good free-kicks. The rest is a bit of a blur and pretty forgettable.

As poor a decision letting KDB go was, one things for sure, the £60M we managed to get for Oscar from China was a f**king unbelievable bit of business!

Strange with Mata getting a POTY just months before.

You don't understand what "at the time" means then?

not gonna lie, i enjoy watching city play.  anybody else find city their guilty pleasure?

It's hard not to admire them at present.

If that was Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs or Utd, I would be absolutely gutted, but I honestly don't have a problem with City and fair play to them.

Of course that attitude may well change if they go on to dominate for the next  5 seasons + .............................!!

I am put off by his face. He just kinda has that unlikable look so for no reason at all I don't like him.

The context was for 2013-14 season. So "at the time" means the start of 2013 season. Mata "at the time" was our POTY, twice. Oscar on the other hand, just had done his sh*t second half of the season ritual.

Context? Dont so bloody stupid. Oscar at the time was our best player, spin it how you like but you were wrong.

Stupid? Lol. So let me get this, Mata being POTY, Oscar being rubbish for a second half of the 2012-13 makes him our best players.

THE FACTS, point to you being biased and hopelessly wrong.

Have any teams put a man-marker on KDB yet?

The problem with that is, then you have Silva running around with more freedom. Lets say we put Kante on KDB, so Bakayoko/Drinkwater/Fabregas against Silva or vice versa? With Sane and Sterling pinning back the WBs and an overlapping Walker? It's a tough ask to sacrifice one person to man-mark because City plays a fast passing style.

Oscar was good at the time and at the very least he worked in the system, should have been rotated more often though.

KDB should have played more and had Jose done so, we might not have to let him go. I agree with you that he needed more faith from Jose.

Doesn't matter where they stood at the start of the season. When the season got going Oscar was outperforming them both, him displacing our PotY is actually proof of how good he was playing.

So by at the time, I meant at the time Mata was on the bench and Oscar was starting games. I don't know why this is so contentious. He was playing better so he got the starts. The end.
