August 21, 20178 yr Rumblings in the press about him coming here http://www.corriere.it/sport/17_agosto_21/marchisio-juventus-addio-mediano-sull-orlo-cessione-17487c04-8665-11e7-bd49-2b2377bbc1e8.shtml?cmpid=tbd_e1ddbce4OS&refresh_ce-cp
August 21, 20178 yr Would take him in a heartbeat. Would be a great addition to the squad in an area where we're really lacking depth (CM). He's 31, but still has at least 2 more years at the top level - the Italians always seem to keep themselves very fit - Zola, Maldini, Totti, Pirlo etc. I'm hoping this happens! Definitely a better option than Drinkwater.

August 21, 20178 yr Zola was 31 when we brought him in. We need depth, balance and experience. We lost a lot of it over the summer and it showed when we got the red against burnly. For the right price this is a good signing

August 21, 20178 yr Each to their own but he's 31 played in Italy all his career and had a bad knee injury...this board ain't gong to buy an over 30 year old with no resale value...but you keep up 'I love Grandad' vibe guys...and btw he's off to AC Milan anyway... August 21, 20178 yr Would take him in a heartbeat. Awesome player, experienced and would easily be one of our backbones. I like this rumour. Hope it happens.

He would be implying, you would be inferring. :) But I don't think he meant it that way anyway. As for Marchisio, I agree with you, he's too old and no sale on value. 3 years ago I'd have welcomed him. Edited August 21, 20178 yr by TheChelsRVA
August 21, 20178 yr I'm not saying he couldn't do a job but I'd prefer we went for younger players than 30+ players in today's market the money demanded for them is insane. Look at Llorente, he would be a good player to have but the money Swansea want for someone his age is criminal IMO.
August 21, 20178 yr In a way I'm glad we are being linked to some old Italian stalions. Most of those guys are rock solid and age rather good. Along with Candreva I'd like to see this happening. Bringing in old dogs, to teach the young boys how it's done. Perfect squad depth, against a reasonable price, and with the prospect of giving our own youth a chance.
August 21, 20178 yr Too injury prone for the Serie A. He'd be good a few years ago but on his day can be a class player, don't know if he'll have those days again.
August 21, 20178 yr There are two sides to an argument here and nether clash in reality, we are certainly trying to build a younger squad, but with that comes lack of experience so an older player in the mix offers good balance, secondly these type of players are bought as a stop gap not with resale in mind, we have bought players that can develop but we need players that can bring instant results and experience if we are going to do well in Europe, there is a balance between deals for the future and deals for the present.

I agree but Marchisio whilst a good player is often injured 3 times per season.

Offers us a really good option when he's fit. Has worked with Conte before. Great depth and most importantly, him being 31 is an advantage for us. It means there's still a path for Loftus-Cheek (or Chalobah) if he really has a break out season at Palace to come back and become a first team player. I'd very much prefer that over signing a 25 year old tbh.

August 21, 20178 yr No chance this will happen. Italian players are like wine, they get better with age.
August 21, 20178 yr This one's a bit left field isn't it? Doubt he'd leave Juve - he's a diehard fan.

We sign players to improve the team and keep in the squad, we ain't Spurs who sign players to sell on to a bigger team a few years down the line for some profit. If Marchisio improves us and Conte wants him, then he should be signed.
