Billy Gilmour

Comparing him to players like Modric and Messi (who was scoring hattricks vs RM @ 19yo) after a single performance may be "positive", but it is bad feedback most of all.

He's nothing like any of those players (yet), which is why the comparisons were all over the place and he was compared to completely different players, but somehow shares characteristics with all of them.

OK I see but I compared him to Scholes;

A player that came from the academy, they have that similarity and many more, they play the same position, they are the same height and they weren't/aren't afraid to get in tackles and from what I've seen from Billy he looks like he can pass the ball and isn't afraid of anybody. So it's not bad feedback if there is an already known path that Billy may take on.

People were saying about Frank Lampard that he's special when he was as young as Billy. Where is the harm?

@Gol15

Didn't you post a meme comparing him to Iniesta too?

Now don't get me wrong, I would be absolutely delighted to be wrong and all of my caution to just be superstition like you say. I would love to have a young Drogba, Scholes, Iniesta, Terry, Ballack Nevin and Robben at CFC that turn into said players in a few years. But if things happened they way I'd like them to happen I wouldn't be so miserable, would I?

Not all people were saying Lamps is special. For some reason the youtube algorithm wants me to watch this video over and over again, so I thought I'll share my happiness here...

Now why do you think Redknapp didn't want to say that Lamps will go "right to the very top" in front of him?

Acceleration around the pitch looks average so defensively might be like Jorginho.

I might trigger a few here, Messi has always lacked acceleration, but when your feet and brain are in perfect symmetry you don't need it.

And also i thought Billy looked the polar opposite of Jorginho defensively.

Christ this forum is getting ridiculous now. How can people not see the difference between "he plays in a similar way to player xxx" and "hes as good as player xxx", its not being realistic its just someone claiming he sees a resemblance in the style Gilmour plays in to another player, not claiming he`s the bestest player ever...

Any hint of someone posting something slightly positive is piled on by the usual suspects. Get a grip.

He looks great technically but it’s also good to see him doing the ugly stuff as well and winning tackles and headers. I don’t care about his lack of size, physically he looks comparable to Dennis Wise and he wasn’t afraid to get stuck in.

Comparing his physicality and stature to Dennis Wise.

It's a bit obvious that Billy will be our best midfielder next season, the maturity level in his decision making is so on point.

He's our version of Scholes in the making right now.

He's our VERSION of Scholes. Nowehere does he say he's as good as Scholes or going to be.

Someone esteemed once told me the way to mark out a great player is to see what there like when a ball is played into them anywhere, because of your touch and spatial awareness, its the thing that marks Messi out, he'll take a ball in any situation, which means players trust you not to lose it, when it is played into you any position Gilmour was like that from the get go.

Comparing his spacial awareness to that of Messi, once again not comparing him to Messi.

See @Vagabond, no one is comparing him to any great players. Simply stating similarities.

Saying they have similar characteristics to great players isn't a bad thing. No one is saying he's as good as Scholes or Messi, they're saying they have similarities.

Did we not get a reality check a few days ago when our 18 year old bossed the current best team in Europe?

Saying it's obvious that he's going to be our best midfielder next season and that he's our version of Paul Scholes after one game is definitely more than just saying "they have similar characteristics".

He was his manager at the time, it's a professional to another and he was already under pressure since they are related or what not. He still said it though.

Surely the thread should be titled “Wee Billy Gilmour”, so it should.

Hes our new wee Pat Nevin......

Oh hang on, I better make sure I put "but may not be as good, or might be, who knows, lets hope so, though are we allowed to hope, is that to positive?" After that.....

To think his spacial awareness is even close to that of Messi is... ah nevermind. I'm done here.

People just doing the same mistakes over and over again. Give them time. Especially with English players.
You can see a lot of shockers here after one good game.
But some even bigger shockers are coming when he's got couple of bad games and they start sh*tting on him.

Mate I have seen this over and over and over..I remember when Barkley was the "world class" youngsters now look at him, Rashford, Lingard, Dele........etc....I could go on and on....[emoji2365][emoji2365]

Saying he's going to be our best midfielder is obviously daft. Nothing wrong saying he's our version of Scholes. No different to calling RLC the Lewisham Ballack.

Thank god for that, seeing as you can't comprehend what people are saying.

@dkw

It's not just me. Brutos didn't understand it either.

But here's a compilation from this thread:

"Huge talent this lad. Looked like he had played the game for years. Jorginho who?"

"Scottish Kante."

"Big big praise, plays like Iniesta or Silva with bite, just wow"

"This kid makes Jorginho look average. "

"It's a bit obvious that Billy will be our best midfielder next season, the maturity level in his decision making is so on point.

He's our version of Scholes in the making right now."

"This is why Billy is the new Scholes. "

I didn't put the names of the posters in the quotes because I don't want a million backtracking responses. Hopefully you still get the picture.

I think there is after one game, optimism is one thing, but that's going overboard, if he's had a really good season with a good share of games then fair enough, but he hasn't. He's been impressive whenever he's played though, I really like the lad, I just can't subscribe to those statements. Especially because I know what football fans are like today, they'll overhype a youngster after one good performance then get on their back when they don't meet their ridiculous expectations that they've set. To claim that it's obvious that Billy is going to be our best midfielder next season is just silly and over the top, he's still a teenager, he doesn't need those expectations or hype, especially after one bloody game. By the way I only had an issue with what Gol15 said, the other statements I didn't really have an issue with.

I completely get what you mean, the Scottish Kante and stuff is just a bit of tongue and cheek, I don't see anything wrong with that, and the Jorginho dismissals I can also understand as much as I highly rate Jorghi, Billy put in a great shift defensively and actually put Jorginho to shame a bit.

I'm not sure why people are getting on your back over your comments.

Is there anything specific you want from me or a you actually trying to be a bully on an internet forum? lol

There's no need to be mad, we will see who was correct in a few years when we start winning back to back CL and PL titles with the current youth all grown up...

Because reality would make them miserable. Who wants to think of our games against Bayern and United when we can live in lala land where we have such a bright future and players that will develop into all those world beaters?

Should something go wrong, we will pick our one or two players to blame. Ironically Barkley, a former youth prodigy himself, is one of those targets.

Don't worry about it, I'll gladly be a miserable prick if it means I'm not setting myself up for disappointment all the time because I expect greatness at every moment.

Calling me a bully because a few people disagree with you ha ha.

Don't be so childish, we're not at school anymore. (well i'm not at least)
