Actually, I was asking you if you're trying to bully me and laughing about it. But you are free to build that narrative if that makes you feel better... same as you're free to have ridiculous opionions on youth players.

I remember once when i was being my typically optimistic self, people ridiculed me, laughed at me, kept blaming my blue tinted specs. But i wouldn't have none of it, not as long as hope was still alive, you have to keep believing, sometimes it becomes very real.

So a couple blatantly joking, one said he plays "like" Iniesta or Silva (note, like, not as good, or better), one saying he's like Scholes (note, like, not as good, or better), and one who thinks he will be our best midfielder next season, which is his opinion and may be right. 

None of them claiming he's as good as iniesta, xavi, Scholes etc. 

We've just seen him put on a fantastic display dominating against the best team in the league, of course fans are going to be excited after seeing that, if you can't get excited by seeing a young lad coming through play that we'll then I think your missing out.

Pardon, Messi when he was jet propelled was as quick as you get off the mark, Easily up there with Robben, Overmars etc, his pace was electric.

Agreed, Messi a couple of years ago was insanely quick off the mark.

 

Seen a lot of comparisons in this thread but he looks most reminiscent of Veratti imo. Both stature and ability. Only small but more than happy to get stuck in to a tackle.

How about overexcited instead of just excited? When people get overexcited they start to build expectations that will get disappointed sooner or later. Praising a player for a performance is fine, but you can only become like (not as good as) any of those world class players if you're showing consistency week in week out and that's simply asking too much of Billy at the moment. I've seen countless players being labelled and compared with the greats, only a tiny fraction of them ever makes it and I believe part of the reason is that they get overhyped by overexcited fans and journalists after a few good performances.

I really hate that you think I'm not getting excited for us and for him, most of all. He's a good lad, a promising player and I wish him all the best. Plus, we won against Liverpool. How could I not be elated? I'll admit that I wasn't very confident when I saw the starting lineup, but actually thought to myself: "Well, at least we have nothing to lose and everything to win. Especially Gilmour.". And he delivered.

I think he's very composed and mature for his age, I think he has good technique and an impressive ability to weigh his passes. But I didn't see anything that would warrant comparing him to any of those proven world class players or anything that would make me go "He plays like world-class player XY". I need to see a lot more before making those kinds of statements and since the namedropping was all over the place I believe I'm not the only one.

So how about we (or you 😛 ) calm down a little and watch how he does in the next few games instead of comparing his acceleration to Messi and his vision to Xavi?

Going to be a big player and big character

He has had the stand out midfield performance of all our players so far this season and if he is good enough he is old enough, we need to throw him in from now to then end of the season.

 

 

The funny thing is without this injury crisis we might not have seen him playing a full half. 

He certainly looks worthy of the squad and probably first team starter on merit alone.

I'd like to now know how long his contract is, bang him straight on a 5 yr, cos some of the news reports are linking him with Pep in the summer!

On the clubs website it says he signed a 4 year, in september 2019.

He isnt going anywhere, childhood chelsea fan, and has already turned down every big club in europe to sign for us in the first place. 

Really excited for him, tenacious and can dictate play from deep, but he is also capable from range, and has the vision and ability to make those key passes. 

I wasnt sure whether he would struggle physically, but he looks like he has the ability to overcome that disadvantage. 

All i was doing was reacting to some sensationalism style Journalism in two of the big papers, and praying that because he was so young he was actually tied down to along term deal, can see that being improved very quickly.

Gets his deserved premstart, watching SS, and if a luminary like Keane says he thought he looked World class, what do  us mere fans know!
