May 8, 20206 yr I really like him, but I'm not going to get carried away, he has plenty of time to develop and I'll keep that in mind even if he goes on to have bad games when football restarts. The way Frank talks about him makes me feel he is something special.
June 11, 20206 yr Most exciting thing about the restart is watching this lad play again. He was the main (if not sole) reason we started to look so much better before the league was called off, at both ends of the pitch. Edited June 11, 20206 yr by Argo
June 11, 20206 yr We won Liverpool 2-0 and Everton 4-0 with basically 6-8 starters injured mainly because of him dictating the play. Beautiful performances by young Billy. Congrats to him!
June 11, 20206 yr Really think he's going to go on to become absolute world-class in a few years. Think he'll play a big part now after the restart.

June 17, 20206 yr He's got until the end of the season to show whether we actually need to keep Jorginho around or let him go to Juventus.
June 17, 20206 yr He's got until the end of the season to show whether we actually need to keep Jorginho around or let him go to Juventus. I am not sure it is that simple. Jorginho is a valuable player for us. I'd let go of Barkley if someone from the midfield needs to go.

It would be an incredible risk to sell Jorginho at the end of this season, far too many young players looked good, then flopped. If Chelsea sell Jorginho and Gilmour failed to live up to expectations, what next?

His defensive work is so poor that I think we'd actually improve as a team even if we didn't replace him.

Well we have played 4-2-3-1 more often than not, and for me Kante-Kovacic as a pivot is fine. Jorginho is just sooooo slow. That gif going around of the referee running past him when we are being countered is very telling. Our defence will improve massively with him at Juve.

At the start maybe but as the season has gone on the shape has settled into a 4-3-3, apart from the odd horses for courses game like Spurs ofcourse.

You keep using that gif as an example, just that one gif. Do you have any other examples rather than just one isolated incident in one game? If I wanted to I could find something similar for pretty much every player in football to hold them in a poor light.

I'm not so sure. If money comes in from Juve i'd be tempted.

I think he is the best player in our squad in terms of reading the game and predicting balls, but there's no denying that Jorgi isn't fast or physical. Most of his yellow cards are a direct result of that and he's got quite a few of those iirc.

These were his numbers at some point: 6th in interceptions in the whole league, nobody from our club is above him, most passes in final third (again another myth about how he passes backwards all the time, destroyed). Only behind Dave when it comes to tackles, I guess another myth destroyed? Now be a man and admit that you've lost the plot...Thanks in advance. Gilmour with Jorginho as a mentor can become an amazing leader.

June 17, 20206 yr It is madness to think that because Gilmour can do a job in the center of the park that we should get rid of Jorginho, it is imperative that we understand that the biggest drawback of playing youngsters is the lack of consistency. This is down to lack of experience in dealing with the drawbacks, games where you get bullied or completely neutralized. Billy will have phases such as that and rather than having no option but to play him and further dent his confidence I would rather have Jorginho coming in and rotating with Gilmour, especially in games where it may be more of a tactical battle. We have seen it with Reece James who I believe is the most promising talents out of all our youth players, against Bayern his lack of experience in positional awareness was brutally exploited. By the end of the game he seemed a little lost of whether to stick or twist, I would much rather have a like for like mentor for someone like Gilmour to make him grow in that role alongside rotating with him.

Why is speed do important though, in his position its way down the list of attributes.

I think it's also crucial to understand that not only other players can benefit from someone like Jorginho but also many managers would benefit greatly by having him. Sarri would never be able to get the team to play his style without Jorginho, the single biggest factor on the pitch to why we could transform our whole gameplay from being a counter attacking team to playing possession based football is Jorginho. Furthermore Lampard loves him as well, for him to sell Jorginho after his first season on the biggest stage would make his job much more difficult and he probably knows it, this is why it was him that made Jorginho the vice-captain and it was a very natural decision and progression of Jorginho's importance. Gilmour is the natural successor of Jorginho, just like JT was to Marcel for example. Other midfielders simply don't play that role as well and it doesn't come natural to them. They should have the full next season playing together and rotating with each other. Lampard probably knows this as well.
