To be honest I thought he had an absolute howler (and I agree others did on first half) and Lampard got it spot on making wholesale changes at half time. My concern was that he was going to do same as he did against Villa and wait longer to hook players.

However he is a just a kid and in normal circumstances you'd expect a performance like that from time to time. This was his first run out since resumption and players far more experienced have looked just as rusty.

He looked a bit gutted when sitting on stands in second half and that's no bad thing. He is a talent, no doubt about it, for me the most exciting young talent we've had for decades. Thankfully for him the transfer ban and having a manager willing to trust in kids has happened at right time for him.

If I had to pick one of him, James, RLC, Abraham, and Mount who would be a first team player in 5 years it would be Gilmour.

I thought Frank handled it really well, sometimes with young players leaving them on in a bad situation can have much more of a detrimental effect than taking them out of that situation.

I agree that it was the right call - no doubt at all that we were far, far better when Barkley and (to a larger extent) Kovacic were brought on.

Until RLC came on, when Barkley went all to cack, and lost even the most rudimentary understanding of the concepts of football, and all bodily co-ordination.

I have no idea why that would be.

I wouldn't really lower any expectations here. Billy played two perfect matches against Merseyside teams. That is his current "best" level. I think Leicester was the first team giving him extra attention and his performance was really depleted by an early almost costly mistake. He never recovered.

One thing young players don't have is consistency. That comes through experience.

Billy will be good even in this season still. He is a real talent.

Mate there are so many I can't even list them going all the way back to Theo Willcot who they said would be better than Ronaldo(Brazilian) or Pele the disrespect being shown is unreal.

There is such a looooong list, I can't remember the last truly world class talent maybe Gareth Bale who could have walked into any team worldwide but the rest are just hot air hype. World class talent isn't made over one or two matches you have to prove it week in week out with the caveat there will be the odd bad game here or there.

You never see talent abroad just hype like this by their local media /country.

Before hyping the young man give him at least a half to full season

Yes you do, you just don't read Spanish/German/French newspapers.

I remember when Josh Mcheran was hailed similarly....

I had Mceacharan on the back of a shirt one year. Number 47. I won't do the same to poor Billy! He's got a lot of quality, clearly, but as others have said will need time to make mistakes and grow. Lamps is the perfect manager for him. Imagine him playing like that for Jose... He'd be at Swindon by Tuesday.

I was certain josh who be huge for us that first season he appeared after seeing him dominate the midfield in a pre season game against Rangers, they couldn't get the ball of him.

Same. I just thought he was one that would break the mould and establish himself.

Ofcourse it doesn't but it also wasn't a "reality check" either, play Mount infront of the back four he's still technically in midfield but it's a world away to what he's been training as since a boy. Any specialist regista in a further advanced position where their passing angles and way they scan their surroundings completely different to what he's used too as was the case for Billy today and they will struggle, even finished article one's let alone a teenager.

Actually as a youngster he started off at an Am position.... he only moved deeper because of lack of pace in the last two years..

But this is the point I'm making about Billy, i'm not saying people shouldn't be optimistic.

I remember when McEachran dominated Marseille at 17 years old, he looked incredible, I remember saying at the time that's the future England captain right there. I think he's currently playing in League 1 or the Championship right now. Although I will admit, Billy looks better than McEachran, McEachran never put a game in like that against Liverpool. But then you can look at players like Jack Wilshere who at 18 played amazing against Pep's Barcelona in both legs, had all the hype on him after those two games and where is he now? Might not be that fair of a comparison because of injuries but I still think he got caught up with the hype and expectation along the way. He was in the press every week for something.

Mceachran also looks like he is more interested in his civil life than football. Gilmour looks a different sort. However you never know. Anyway I trust Frank's assessment on him.

Yep, as soon as he got that new contract you saw a big change in him, he then got with that lass off Corry and that was that, I didn't see him improve from then. We've still got his younger brother out on loan, but a real shame he never developed into the player we thought he would.

One thing I will say though, Billy appears to be very grounded, I don't know him personally, but I love his interviews, he seems like such a respectful kid and knows he has to listen to his manager. Even after Shearer and Iain Wright gave him praise on the BBC, he didn't let it go to his head, he looked very happy but he just said he needs to stick too it.

Last two matches very error prone ... let's see how he continues looks very small against Watford and Leicester bullied off the ball easily.

Apart from one moment against Watford, I didn't see anything wrong when he came on. That one moment when he lost the ball was more to do with trying to control the bouncing ball at chest height and being overcrowded more than it actually being an unforced error. Put Kante or Jorginho in the same position and the outcome is exactly the same.
