December 9, 20205 yr Was at the heart of everything we did last night (and most of it was good). Great to have him back, he is hugely promising (and we are sorely lacking decent cover in midfield). He has also demonstrated that he can impress in multiple positions in a midfield three. Could be a top player.
December 9, 20205 yr 2nd half left a lot to be desired by most players, 1st half he was really on the ball though, impressive performance.

December 9, 20205 yr Billy Gilmour looks so classy. He was easily our best player last night. Looks like he fits in at that 8 slot seemlessly.
December 9, 20205 yr He looks better playing box to box rather than just sitting, first half he impressed me.
December 9, 20205 yr He needs a loan at a decent prem side where he's guaranteed minutes. Look how its working currently for Gallagher and Ampadu, and I think something similar for Gilmour where he gets plenty of game time will be very good for us. Its actually insane the amount of youth talent we currently have, going to be difficult making the choices of having to inevitably get rid of some, i.e with Reece James and Lamptey.

It has to be said that our youth scouts are amazing. They rarely disappoint

I have to say I disagree, I personally think he’s good enough to be part of the first team and eventually he will break in. I’ll be annoyed if we loan Gilmour out, the talent is too immense. Remember how he made Liverpool seasoned players look like mugs. This season he should keep getting these bit and bobs appearances, then next season he really can push for first team and I think he’ll do it.

Im not saying loan out for multiple years, I just mean for a year. It doesnt look like he'll be getting too many minutes this year, and Id rather he gets a load of gametime under his belt then next year he could actually become a regular

Sometimes it backfires though. Some Prem sides don't want to play with a creative footballer like Billy, they want to hit a point tally for the season and get as many defensive experienced midfielders in there as they can. We've seen it before when our loanees just get shoved to the side because of it. Not only that, it could destroy Billys confidence. Just playing devil's advocate though, however, I do think he can get a good amount of game time here quite honestly.

I just think him getting loads of minutes is important right now and young players certainly do benefit from it. As I mentioned before the likes of Gallagher and Ampadu have had plenty of mins this season already, and its really showing. Whereas in the past you can look at someone like Lewis Baker who was loaned out to clubs where he never played and his career went down the drain. If Billy was to go to a club like Burnley then im definitely against it with the brand of football they play, but if he went somewhere like Leeds and Bielsa really liked him, then I think that could end up being excellent

The likes of Abraham, Mount and James would never be here now if it wasn't for their loans. But you've just nailed it there, it really matters what club he goes to. If he does go to Burnley, his chance of getting a game will be 0, even if he is the most technically gifted and creative player in their squad, Dysche won't have risk having him there due to inexperience and physical limitations (his small size for a start).
December 11, 20205 yr I really can't see Billy going out on loan considering we have 6 realistic options for 3 positions, if Billy goes we will be hugely depleted with 5 options for 3 positions. If we get a serious injury to either of Kante, Mount or Kova we will be left with a work in progress Kai and Jorginho who still has question marks over him from a defensive standpoint especially on the transition.
December 11, 20205 yr He is benefitting from being at the club this season specially since he just came back from injury. The good thing is that Gilmour has shown that he can play more forward, he has a nice touch and can advance the ball in the final third so he really isn't a long term replacement for Jorginho anymore, or at least he's more versatile. We'll see how things will look next season though, if some of our players currently on loan do come back e.g. Ampadu, Barkley, RLC, then Lampard will have to make a decision on who does he count on and who can continue his career somewhere else. Maybe Lampard still wants Rice as well so there will be some hard decisions for Lampard after this season. Will he give a chance to Ampadu or will he buy Rice? And if he buys Rice, will he sell Jorginho and/or Kante? When it comes to Barkley I think he simply isn't going to be in front of Mount and Havertz so he will most likely leave as he isn't happy to be the backup option anymore. If RLC is ok with being a backup option that he might actually stay, we do need that kind of player as well, but if Rice does come then Gilmour will have to compete with too many players for game time and then a loan option would be the best.
December 11, 20205 yr A loan to Vitesse or somewhere he can develop away from the spotlight like Mount did could be highly beneficial

December 11, 20205 yr The more i look at him the more i am reminded of Thiago.. like a deep lying play maker.. fiesty and making tackles if required.. if he is even a third of what thiago is .. i think he will be a great player for us for years!!.. Given his versatility he could be our very own Guti..

I honestly think out of our youngsters Gilmour is right up there with James, if not better in terms of potential. I’ve never seen such a young player dictate gameplay like Gilmour does. I honestly think he’ll be as good as Xavi one day, yeah this post could look really bad in a few years time but my god I’m really excited about him! He’s going to be a special player.
December 12, 20205 yr I honestly think we should keep him with the first team all season. Get him games anytime we can. We will be hit with injuries in midfield all season and we need all of them. Havertz, Mount, Kovacic, Kante, Jorginho, Gilmour. That is actually 2 players for 3 spots. He will get games. And if he is playing like he did in the CL he could actually snatch a spot from someone else.

Exactly, the right loan would be a perfect opportunity for him. but if he ends up at club like Burnley or some team in a crappy league then thats a waste.
December 12, 20205 yr No need for Billy to go anywhere even though he still has a lot to learn - not least of which is the weight of pass !!! his opportunity v Liverpool was delightful to watch and he gave a better than good account of himself - he once again showed why he is such a prospect v Krasnodar in mid-week. The elephant in the room with Billy is his stature, but, imo, it’s only a problem if he doesn’t continue to develop his skill set to accommodate his physical limitations and history shows us plenty successfully have - I don’t believe that he won’t either. For my two penneth worth, let’s keep him with the first team squad, nurture and mould him into the player that he and we want him to be - as far as I can see he’s plenty good enough to develop within the squad and he will definitely get game time in this fixture crazy season and let’s be honest, what cost for bringing in a player to replace him and why would you ??
