If we lose tonight, it will totally be on me: I had to go out early this morning and it was freezing. But I couldn't find my woolly Chelsea hat. On match day...:panicbutton:

What??!!

I think a Sky journalist put it out there without any detail (just “Kovacic is out”) and people added their own embellishments, drawing (it looks like) on recent stories for inspiration. I’m not refuting it and maybe he is injured, but I’d be v surprised if the Rudiger bit is true. There’s very little, if anything at all, that has been substantiated, as far as I know.

Kovacic suffered a hamstring injury. Which makes the decision to carry 3 left backs to Spain but leave gilmour in England baffling.

Hopefully kovas injury isn't serious or our season could be derailing in front of us. I ABSOLUTELY HATE MOUNT IN THE PIVOT

What’s the source out of curiosity? Has it been confirmed?

We should be able to seal the deal here without Kovacic as he didn't really outperform everyone in the CL but if he's really injured till the end of the season or something like that... Then our chances to secure a top 4 finish got significantly lower, Kovacic has been one of our consistently high level players.

Still haven’t seen anything official. Is there a chance that this might be what the Italians call “pretattica”?

I pray so but I highly doubt it. There usually isn't smoke without fire. I don't think we can Know the  severity of the hamstring injury until he returns to England and has a scan but I am sure something happened to kovacic.

It actually makes sense because kovacic has played the highest number of minutes in our double pivot due to kantes injury and him being our best 6. Let's not forget he played like a mad man in the westbrom game when we went a man down .

Hopefully Tuchel rests Azpi soon because he is the only player who has played more minutes that kovacic

How would they know it's a hamstring ? just guess work,? maybe he just got a knock and the mole leaked it.

Early physio assessment maybe

I wonder if Kante will get the start though. Tuchel told us yesterday he's a bit in doubt to let him start because he might need to play 120mins and that'd be too much for him eventually. If Kante gets injured because he's not ready for a 90min CL-fight THAT would be a disaster. I could see Mount starting with Ziyech up front while Kante gets the sub-role he likely had anyway.

If only we had another midfielder who could have travelled in the squad! Good job we took three left back though...

A hat is essentially a sock for the head, I hope this doesn’t get back to the players or it could destabilise everything!

Sounds good that he should participate in at least 45 mins....should make a difference.....im more worried about after this match whether or not we have injuries for saturday or not...

Kova has been relied upon a lot because his engine is needed in the midfield because Jorgi cannot bring that and Kante is too unreliable with his injury record to play multiple games in a row.

If he is out tonight and we will struggle as Kante does not appear ready for 90 minutes, if he is out for the season then either Kante magically returns to being able to play every minute of every game at the Kante level or our thin hopes of top 4, CL and FA cup victories are basically done.

Jorgi and Gilmour wont help us to achieve those aims imo.

Or TT could put James in the midfield and either push dave out to RWB and bring in Zouma, or just play CHO at RWB.

For sure. Read a quote that said he didn't want to risk Kante without being sure he was 100%. Guess he'll have to now.
