I think the threat of relegation might make players think twice about joining in January. Only greedy c**ts who’re driven by money will go there. So yeah, Lukaku is a possibility.

He should be an upgrade on Alonso (he doesn’t look like he’s wading through treacle at full speed for a start), it’d be a good move as a 6 month loan, an option to buy at a decent fee is good too and if he’s not worth it at the end we send him back. It’s basically what every club does with our unwanted players!

I just don't expect us to do any Jan deals in, even loans.

January 4, 20224 yr Author Apparently Everton only want a sale, not loan or swap, which has ruled Inter out. Am guessing they will take a loan of they get to Jan 31st with no offers on the table.
January 4, 20224 yr I never understand why negotiations take so long. January moves fast. We have lots of games. We need a LWB. Just do it.

Chilwell is the long term first choice but we need immediate competition/another option for Alonso and will need back up for Chilwell going forwards who is better than Alonso. Digne is a better option than Alonso as a wing back and suffers the same weaknesses as a full back. But he has Premier League experience abd is a much better player than we are currently seeing under a Benitez formation than he clearly isn't suited to. I think we should move quickly and sign him on a permanent deal.
January 4, 20224 yr I can understand why the club might be hesitant to sign him permanently. We can’t be having 5 left backs at the club. That’s ridiculous Edited January 4, 20224 yr by JM7

January 4, 20224 yr Author https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12509226/lucas-digne-everton-defender-wanted-by-chelsea-newcastle-and-west-ham Everton have let it be known they want 30mill for a player they don't want anymore. Well that will rule us and West ham out so Newcastle it is.

If Digne is as good as I’ve seen him then I’d sell Alonso and Emerson, have Chilwell and Digne, and see if Maatsen can force himself in.
January 5, 20224 yr Author Newcastle next signing priority is expected to be Lucas Digne, once the signing is Kieran Tripper is completed.

To be fair its going to be difficult getting a player who will accept he will be 2nd choice as soon as Chilwell gets back, but who is good enough to come straight into the team, fit the system Tuchel plays, impact on future squad development (youth players on out on loan etc) etc. Theres a lot of background work goes into signing players now, their personality profile etc, goes way beyond "is he a decent player". We`ve seen the impact of brining in one wrong player can have on a squad, you can then be stuck with someone you cant pick and who can have a negative influence on the squad. That’s ridiculous It would actually be SEVEN ! We've got 4 left backs out on loan :-) Chilwell, Alonso, Emerson, Rahman, Maatsen, Castillo, Digne And if you also count Azpi's verstaility, then you could even argue Digne would be #8 LOL If we get stuck, Colwill and Sarr could also play that position, and we've also seen Reece James playing there recently. So Digne could give us a much needed 11th option LOL, as long as we don't count TT experimenting with CHO and Pulisic !

My thought was you'd wait and see how well Chilwell does come back, let em compete for a season and may be sell Digne on. The personality part's important I suppose, maybe thats why he went from PSG to Barcelona to Everton. I dunno about the youth players but Azpi is going to play less and less and Alonso is now 31. Emerson and Baba aren't coming back. CHO, Pulisic and Mount aren't really going to be wing backs or at least not natural ones. And all the while the next game is coming right up. So accepting its hard I still think fortune favours the bold and its better to be decisive and straightforward early in the windows rather than waiting to the end trying to do something clever.
