Lucas Digne

If there was ever a possibility to get him when it got known that Chilwell won't be back this season, now with James injured as well this transfer is a necessity.

To be fair, it's Rafa Benitez that doesn't think he is good enough, the same Rafa Benitez that wouldn't play Terry because apparently Terry couldn't play every week anymore. When Benitez left, Terry went on and played pretty much every game he was available in for the next 3 seasons. Basically, what I am saying is never trust Rafa Benitez, if he can get the Terry situation that wrong, he shouldn't be trusted with anything.

Thats football though, just a game of opinions, not just Rafa Benitez. We then appointed Mourinho who thought Kevin De Bruyne wasn't good enough for us and Willian was better. That worked out well.

I am sure we had other LB's on the radar in recent times. Might be a good option to go for one of those players as a permanent signing now. In the short term bring them in as competition for Alonso with the aim to replace him as first choice by the end of the season. If we sign a decent player it means we shouldn't have to rush Chilwell back, and would allow us to let Alonso leave in the summer before he goes into the last year of his contract.

I would rather get Maatsen back if his contract allows it.

Unlikely Coventry will agree to this. He has been among their best players this season and they are in with a chance of promotion.

Depends if we have a recall clause there or not. I believe we do.

On Digne is he actually any good. Our resident wizard says no, others say yes. Game of opinions and all. Would he be another Saul or Pato, or actually a decent January signing?

Hope you are right about a recall clause. If so we should have activated it already.

I have watched a bit of Everton and Digne has usually impressed. Defensively solid and comes up with a decent amount of assists. He seems to have fallen out with Benitez more than anything.

Don't think he is good enough for Premier League.

I was joking. Loved him in the youth team, and had high hopes for him, but he hasn't exactly set the world alight since we sold him.

I follow Bristol City a little as a good mate of mine supported them. They were pretty happy with Da Silva initially but I haven't seen much recently. I think he was out for a long stretch with injury to be fair. Colvill and Maatsen look like legitimate prospects for us though.

The way their manager talked about him I believe we do. It was not the way PV spoke about Gallagher when questioned about Chelsea bringing him back, a firm no. It was more a case I don't believe it will happen, he is good here so should be here for the season.

I think even if we can call him back we would consult him. If he says he wants to play there I think we will let him. I think we have good values in terms of taking care of players and their Future.

I agree. I'm sure the player would have a say here. In Maatsen's case he has already featured for the first team a few times and looked comfortable enough. Knowing Chilwell is out for a long stretch, and Alonso is an older player I could see Maatsen going for it. He would likely get a decent number of starts and have a chance to stake a claim for Alonso's permanent replacement.

Now it seems that Newcastle will sign him.

Have heard that too. Willing to give Everton cash and Digne a big contract.

Newcastle also would like to sign both Werner and Ziyech from us apparently too.

Newcastle will no doubt spend big on a few signings this window in a desperate attempt to avoid relegation. Maybe we'll offer them Lukaku.
