World Cup Qatar 22

I know they are losing and likely to lose but for Canada to have had 20 shots to Belgiums 4 so far is an outstanding performance with unfortunate sh*t finishing.

Take a bow Herdman, this lot used to get in to real scraps like Ice Hockey players during training before he showed up. True Story.

Let's see what Havertz leading the line for Germany can do today.

Rudiger in a back four too.

And we got the answer most Chelsea fans could have predicted.

Sad to see Hazard like this. First time I’ve watched him since us. Not really watched Madrid, he never was fit!

Courtois reaction after saving penalty irritated me big time, the big nosed c*nt.

But he's been better than KDB!

Sounds oddly familiar to us

Belgium, and Real Madrid, and lucky to have Tibo. What a quality, quality keeper. Only because we had a prime Cech is there any conversation about who the best keeper we have ever had is.

Belgium's strikers have really been a weight around their neck at major tournaments.

Unfortunately our forwards could not score in a brothel with $100s pouring out of their pockets.

If Canada had the slightest bit of technical quality they'd be miles ahead... lucky to still have ten men on the pitch after that tackle though.

I've never been a spurned lover exactly, but I imagine the range of negative emotions I feel while hearing these lackwitted commentators talk about Courtois must be what it feels like.

Ah 20 efforts including a saved pen and only 3 on target, reminds me of some of our Tuchelball.

Any bloody wonder why the 1986 team came home without scoring a goal lmao.

This old Belgian team already looks out of gas. Too bad the Canadians don't know where the goal is. Lot of promising attacking play with little end product. And if Belgium somehow manage a deep run in the tournament then the only reason will be Courtois. He is in the form of his life and it looks nigh impossible to beat him at the moment.

Davies, David and Esqusito are all very gifted technically but sadly they have been rubbish.

I'm sure @Valerie would disagree with you on that. Also anyone lucky enough to witness Peter Bonetti.

Love Carlo, an excellent keeper and top bloke but he was never at the level Cech and Tibo were/are. As for the Cat no I cannot comment on him.

Fine effort team CanMNT, did the nation proud with that and the effort put in. Top marks to Herdman making the team tick so well that we outclassed Belgium. Unfortunately the forwards got over excited like a teenage boy at the prom.

Don't worry bud, the country who gave the world the gift of Rush will always have cultural riches which will outstrip any number of World Cup trophies.

Cech obviously wins out due to longevity (at Chelsea) and the fact he didn't leave under a cloud but I think their absolute primes are very much neck and neck if not favouring Courtois.

*off to take shelter.

Well thankfully the bore draw between Ziyech and Kovacic, I mean Morroco and Croatia, makes this result not as damaging as it could have been, so long as Belgium beat the both of them.

Up to the team, and forwards especially, to find their shooting boots for those games, break that hoodoo of 4 games at the WC and no goals scored, and see where we go from there.

Taken this from Sky Sports.  👏  John Herdman 👏  now that is a fantastic mentality to give to a side who have nobody near the quality of a KdB and, some would say, no right to even be competitive against this Belgium side, and more likely expected a similar result as what Costa Rica got earlier. Well done!.

"

Canada boss John Herdman:

"I'm proud of the performance, but you need to take three points in your first game. We had an opportunity tonight to go top of the group, that was the mission and we missed it.

"As I said these lads put in a shift, they showed they can live on this stage and they made the fans proud. They feel they can belong here, that was the message for us.

"We're going to go against Croatia, that's our mission now. I told them I lost my first game at London 2012 [in charge of Canada's women] and we went on to win a medal. It's how we respond now. With that belief, and if we keep the brotherhood tight, we've got a chance.""

Shocked to hear Canada finished the highest of their qualifying group including Mexico and the USA, perhaps stage fright tonight with their finishing.

Belgium's defence Thibo apart look poor.

First half really under pressure only outlets were KDB and Hazard.

Hazard won two free kicks and kept possession, KDB was excellent running on the ball though his touch seemed to go late through the first never to reappear.

Batsman took his goal well though rest of his game was poor.

Hazard was unlucky to come off and Trossard did not really get in the game perhaps due to Martinez's tactics.

No praise for Hazard from any of the commentators and I thought he was arguably their best player tonight.

Courtois did well saving a penalty and he made one good save. Not sure why people are saying what a world class keeper he is and in form of his life. I’ve seen better games from Kepa past few weeks.
