August 3, 20223 yr What a completely unnecessary announcement from Brighton. Obviously credible media outlets are reporting it because there is an agreement for the player, so to deny it is simply an ego trip on their part. Glad we have the buy back on Colwill. Sounds like they are just bitter.

Maybe Xavi has called him to say if he waits a day or two whilst the boys in the lever room do their thing, he will be a cule.

August 3, 20223 yr I think Cucurella would be a good signing, because like Koulibaly he is qualitywise probably the best player we could realistically sign for his position(LB,LWB) this window and with Alonso wanting to leave and questionmarks about Chilwell fitnesswise it is definitely a position we need to strengthen, even if the price is premium, but maybe his wages aren't to crazy, plus with his versatility he should be a good fit for our system. As long as we get a moderate buyback clause for Colwill into his transfer to Brighton, 40m(20m net) sounds definitely like a good price if he evolves as expected, this sounds like a good deal for all parties involved. With Koulibaly/Emerson/Cucurella for LCB and Cucurella/Chilwell/Emerson and maybe Kenedy for LWB, our left side defensively should be set for the season.

He is on £50k/w at Brighton, I reckon he is on btw £120k-£150k/w.

Spending 52mill on a backup to Chilwell, or to make Chilwell a back up, is an incredible waste of resources. We are supposed to be looking at Liverpool but they would not do this. Ignore the fact Robertson was a steal and TAA is a youth product like James is to us, they have backed them up with good back ups happy to be back ups that cost 13mill and 6 mill. Neither Cucurella or Chilwell will be happy as a back up imo and then you end up loaning or selling one at half value or worse.

August 3, 20223 yr If Man City, with all their riches, don't feel he is worth more than 40mill to be a starter for them, why do we feel he is worth 52.5mill to bench Chilwell or to sit on the bench?

Cucurella wouldn't be both City's best left back and a starting centre back for them like he will be here. We need him more City have Diaz - Laporte and Canelo We have Sarr, Chalobah and Chilwell coming off one of the worst injuries a footballer can have. If City were in our shoes they'd have signed him for 60m and had him settled in the team to start this weekend. Edited August 3, 20223 yr by HazardousChoice

Given walkers injury issues and age I would expect a City back 4 to be: Cancelo Stones Diaz Cucurella I don't see Cucurella as anything other than an emergency LCB. That is Koulibaly spot. TT did not want 5'9" kounde as one of his CBS., why do you think he wants 5'7" Cucurella as one?

I don't think Cucurella is signing to primarily be a centre back.... Though I'm sure he will play there on occasion. Edited August 3, 20223 yr by HazardousChoice

Ok so then LWB, either he starts or Ben does. One of them will make themselves the guy. It will be like Ashley Cole and Wayne Bridge again, only this time the Bridge will be a 50mill plus pound player who won't be happy at being a number 2.

I think on saturday, as of now, Alonso would be a starter. i can imagine Cucurella playing as a LCB. His speed and dynamism will be a perfect synergy with the experience and defensive intelligence of Koulibaly and Thiago Silva. He actually did really well against us in that position

I think Ashley Cole and Wayne Bridge is the perfect example. I don't rate Chilwell as high as most he's definitely more Wayne Bridge than Ashley Cole and that's before you factor in such a bad injury which could impact his level long term and we had to act. If Tuchel has identified that Cucurella can be an Ash level of improvement for us it makes perfect sense to sign him. Despite Bridge being decent bringing Ash in worked out pretty well for us didn't it? If Cucu performs half as well for us I don't think anyone will regret us spending 50m Edited August 3, 20223 yr by HazardousChoice
August 3, 20223 yr or maybe just maybe he wants to play Chilwell as LCB besides the 50 million doesn't matter we don't have to do everything like Liverpool it took them like 25 years to win a title that way
August 3, 20223 yr I think this deal is done, both clubs know it is done but neither club wanted it leaked yet as there is a joint transaction linked to it, Colwill. So I'd suspect Brighton's tweet is a little bit of a white lie, to.. Once his deal is sewn up, then you'll see a pretty quick double announcement from both clubs. cue the hijack 😄 Nah in all seriousness, I'd be shocked if he isnt ours by end of the week
