Marc Cucurella

I reckon the team is stronger than last season.

It’s definitely possible, I’m a little concerned about not having Rudiger as he was great last year , will have to see to Koulibaly and Cucurella get on at centre back. Sterling is definitely and upgrade on Werner/Lukaku and like wise with cucurella and alonso.

We’ve signed a good player who will fit the system. Flip side is the fee, have we not stored problems for ourselves for future bargaining? 62 million  is an astronomical fee for a full back with one decent season under his belt. Brighton have shown all you have to do is stand firm, add a few million and we will pay. The need for a competent DoF is highlighted in this deal. The plus side is a loan for Colwill under a very progressive coach, I hope we do have a recall though in case Potter moves onto bigger and better things. Overall a good deal that fills a hole in the squad though what a fee!

The fee is beyond belief is what is being quoted this morning....definitely not worth that money for a player that won't or should not be first choice...Todd fleeced.

It's a lot of money, but if we consider the original idea of selling Colwill for 20m with a 40m buyback, and now we're loaning him instead (according to reports), we can just factor in the extra cost for them developing Colwill instead.

I'm much happier for us ti pay an extra 10-15m and keep Colwill, than lose him.

Definitely. If 62million also gives Colwill the chance to develop under an offense-positive manager, it would help us in the long term.

We get a good LB/LWB/LCB, Colwill gets minutes in the PL and we actually keep Colwill. It's a win-win-win situation all around without fecking Brighton over.

I heard 74million Euro's ...£62.3 mill ....way, way over priced. If this number is true.....Todd you can stand up now, you just been silently f**ked.

He has been ripped off with every deal when you think about it; the wages for Sterling is ridiculous, and the contract for Koulibaly is mind boggling.
But I guess the manager gets his signings though.

Worth is very subjective right now. If you think we will get bargains when all the clubs are stacked, you might want to rethink. We will get bargains or youth players like Colwill, Gallagher, etc, but at this point he was needed and is quality. If you want to win, you have to pay for quality. City wanted him so he clearly is. They had less need for him so didn't splurge. Todd is trying to close the gap to the top 2 and not just secure top 4. So kudos to him.

Hold on; City don’t have a LB, Mendy their LB is locked up. It is strange paying £20m over what City were prepared to pay for a backup/competition.

He would have been in a similar if not worse situation. He's arguably less likely to displace Cancelo than Chilwell and was more likely a Zinchenko/Mendy/Sterling/Ake replacement, able to deputise anywhere along the left-hand side.

i wouldn't be suprised if Tuchel plays him in midfield for a couple of games as well

as he is always talking about Energy in the midfield

so he could play in 3 positions

LWB LCB and as a midfielder, maybe in a sort of DM role if we play 3-5-2 or as one in the double pivot in our 3-4-3

Yeah much has been made of him "creating the 3rd most chances in the league" but as always statistics without context are pointless. A closer look reveals that his expected assists last season (xA = 2.7) was just over half of  Cancelo (xA =5.1), Andrew Robertson (xA = 5.2), Reece James (xA = 5.7) and Alexander-Arnold (xA = 11.2).

This suggests that he creates lower quality chances than the top fullbacks in the league, on average. I'd be inclined to interpret his chance creation as a hallmark of Brighton's system which allowed him to get into attacking positions more often.

I think I like him as more a defensive option compared to Chilwell, and ultimately I think the way he marries his aggression and industry with great short passing and movement is best suited to DM or a LCB in the back-three. I want to see him be able to rob opponents of the ball in their own half and pressing opposition into their corner.

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly said: ‘Marc is an elite defender of proven Premier League quality and he further strengthens our squad going into the new season. We continue to work on and off the pitch, and we’re delighted Marc will be a part of the present and future at Chelsea.’

Behdad Eghbali and José E. Feliciano , co-controlling owners, said: ‘We’re very excited to bring Marc to Chelsea and he is another key part of our squad building as we enter the new season. We’re all looking forward to getting started on the pitch now, and Marc only adds to that feeling. We welcome him to the club!’

Probably similar. If walker got injured, cancelo will play as rb and cucurella will play as lb

Fee aside this is a great signing.  He provides excellent depth on the left and provides us with a lot of energy.  Our first eleven is more than good enough but it was our lack of depth that really hurt us last season, this is definitely a step in the right direction in that regard.

Nice one Chelsea, another one in the bag. Good to see we have the purse strings open after all the doom and gloom, and more transfers to come!

Things are looking rosy boys (and girls)!
