Demarai Gray has never been the standout player in a comfortably midtable Premier league like Zaha has been. He just isn't in the same class as Wilf. The only player at Everton I'd consider taking is Gordon but he's very much one for the future while Zaha is a big step up right now albeit from a very low bar. Okay, point taken, but i wasn't making a pitch for Gray particularly. I was just using him as an example where i feel all of these players are very much of a muchness. Never been a fan of Zaha, possibly body language and diving about.

No, he is not. He is older. He is actually slightly worse. with our young players there is still the potential that they could get better. with Zaha, we know exactly how not good enough he is. August 8, 20223 yr Author he's always in for a little scrap i like that, gets the crowd going. we don't have enough of that sort of aggressiveness. Edited August 8, 20223 yr by azpi28
August 8, 20223 yr I dunno about this one, I always think of him as a skillful player who doesn't really bring an end product. Looking at his stats the last 2 seasons he has about a 1 in 3 goal per game ratio which isn't too bad. He's a risky move (for the money they may want), but could be a decent replacement for departing players. Edited August 8, 20223 yr by AlwaysRight
August 8, 20223 yr https://youtu.be/VfK9nHkfBTA I haven't seen CHO or Pulisic do this either. But let's not sign this bloke. Sorry. Flippant, yes i know. Edited August 8, 20223 yr by WhiteWall
August 8, 20223 yr Anyway let's forget Zaha for now. We have got Spuds on Sunday. These are the defenders we need to get in before then:
August 8, 20223 yr No main media sources are quoting this. I think is just one place putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5. If TT is under pressure to deliver right away it makes sense are we are mostly signing first team players in their prime right now. Imo even if we spend another 500mill and get TT De Jong, VVD, Messi et al we still won't be able to catch City though. They are a machine.

August 8, 20223 yr Could do a lot worse, however not the most inspiring signing and I would feel we would need another elite forward to go along with Sterling. Zaha would cover Ziyech's departure, Sterling for Lukaku and we still need one for Werner. A more out and out striker imo is needed, but someone who can be a complete forward is the priority. Sterling and Mount are fine, but they need a world class goalscorer to take the pressure of them, Pulisic and Havertz will pop up with goals but they can't be relied on to be the primary goalscorers imho.
August 8, 20223 yr Zaha is a more direct attacker, a bit like Sterling, so it doesn't surprise me that we have been linked by the media. Not sure whether there is really anything concrete behind it though. If he is available at a sensible price, he could provide another source of goals. He may not be the fashionable choice but I think he would be an improvement on some of our existing squad options.
August 8, 20223 yr At a decent price I’d take him. He can beat a man unlike most of our forward players, and he is capable of chipping in with a few goals as well. I think having 2 people (Zaha & Sterling for example) that can take on and beat their man could make a big difference to us compared to what we have now, which is players too scared to take on a man and pull defenders out of position. Pulisic can beat a man but isn’t smart enough to utilise that skill set and is more likely to run in traffic rather space straight afterwards.

The team needs world class players (what ever that is these days) Zaha is not one of them or anywhere close to it. If he was that good other teams would have tried to sign him long ago, plus he hasn't got a defensive brain in his head and TT wants defensive minded players first, goal scorers 2nd. He's been playing in a mid-table team most of his career, stepping up to a top 4/6 level is too much for him and if Todd wants to keep spending like a drunken sailor then look elsewhere. A big fat NO from me. I'd say currently he's closer to world class than any of our attackers bar Sterling simply by virtue of being a better footballer than any of them. You might say it's more to do with our attackers being crap than Zaha being anything special, but that doesn't change the reality. Now if we had an array of world class attackers to choose from, I'd be genuinely surprised at us showing any interest in Zaha. But we missed out on Raphinha, Dembele, Lewandowski and Gnabri. Werner is leaving with Ziyech and CHO following him soon after. We need options and if Zaha is available for a decent price, he's worth a shout.
August 8, 20223 yr Like I said I don't think there is even an ounce of truth in this. However. If we can get him for a good fee he has the ability and the goals in him to help our from t line become better. The problem with him is he sulks when calls go against him and then goes missing. TT wants workhorses up front, for a short time I could see him working but then I can see him and TT faling out and him dropping to the bench. He would have to swallow his pride and completely change his attitude and ethos. If he magically did that, him and Sterling could pair off quite well.

August 8, 20223 yr @azpi28 welcome to the Ward-Prowse fan club. I believe you already know our chairman, Mr. @Munkworth 😉

August 8, 20223 yr I would stay clear of him now, technically never top class yet had speed and strength. These days looks a shadow of his former self.

Would be nice to see what he can do for us. he is a good dribbler and can take out defenders on his own + he has a bit of that aggressiveness that i personally like to see in our team. He wouldn't be our direct solution to our lack of goals but i don't think thats why he's targeted anyway. Progressive Carries top 2%, Progressive Passes top 4 %, Dribbles Completed top 2% and Pressures top 10% + Tackles top 1% this is what we need. Someone who can speed up our play and bring the forwards movement we are lacking in our play and who has the required defensive capabilities. Am I missing something here, or not interpreting this FBREF chart correctly ? I look at that data, and I see that he is very good at dribbles, passing, carries etc etc (all the nice green bars) but the bits that actually matter, assists, shots on target, goals, (all the old-fashioned stuff), he's all red bars and hence absolutely f**king hopeless ? Granted xA (expected assists?) is high, but it doesn't result in actual goals (Assists = 9, red bar), so given our current lots hapless performance in front of goal, the xA from Zaha is going to be as pointless as it appears to be at Palace ?

I think it’s because i left it on compared to forwards. Compared to wingers he will probably be in a higher percentile but also in a lower with the other stats

What an absolute head case LOL. Hard pass from me. If by some miracle he does end up with us, it does at least appear that Loftus-Cheek, Gallagher and Batshuayi already have extensive experience of baling him out of trouble 🙂
