Enzo Fernandez - Officially a Blue!

It's only been two friendlies, but the most noticeable negative point was how much worse we look with Enzo in the middle compared to a Caicedo / Santos midfield or Essugo / Santos midfield. Enzo offers more to the attack than all of these players, but with so many attacking options now, does his strengths outweigh his weaknesses?

He's still pretty decent as a backup #10 to Palmer, but we really shouldn't be playing him in central midfield anymore

107 million pound back up ... LOL.

Never going to happen. Maresca's instructions will be "he plays" .. unless common sense finally prevails and they flog him to Real Madrid !

Don’t forget he still had over 25 goal contributions in 50-55 games last season. Was excellent the second half of the season.

There is no covering up his lack of physicality, and the new players expose what we’ve been missing and likely need in the PL.

they’ll be plenty of time for all between league, CL and cup games. A fit Lavia would make things really interesting for Maresca!!!

They called me crazy

I think it is a huge dilemma for Maresca this season.

He's going to look like a right idiot picking Enzo ahead of Palmer or Estevao at #10, and I doubt the fans will have any of that either, and he also knows damn well that his midfield will get over-run with Enzo in the pivot ... so what then do you do with Eghbali's star boy Fernandez ?

I remember Maresca having no issue selecting Lavia over Enzo earlier in the season last year when Enzo had the touch of an elephant. Enzo was actually demoted to the conference league squad until he actual had some sharpness.

Liverpool have no issues playing Jones over MacAllister so we shouldn’t be afraid to start Santos over Enzo right now.

Enzo did have a very good second half of the season, imo.

Last Year we were left panicking every time Caicedo, or him, looked injured.

With Lavia being a permanent crock I for one am very glad we have Santos and Essugo, both of who look to be very, very good players in the making.

Wasn't totally fit yesterday, probably still carrying a niggle.

That said we have adequate replacement for him whenever required now. If Madrid/PSG ever came for him and offer 150-200M, we need to snatch it and buy Baleba.

Still think he'll be our first choice CM, Essugo and Santos need to be eased in until midway through the season

Exactly what I came on to say. There are so many positives right now, but Enzo does look to be the "weakest link" and the fear is, Maresca will continue to play him regardless.

yeah, he certainly looks like back up right now, and with our Geniuses for SDs desire to dabble in the transfer market, Real Madrid or even PSG ( 130mill offer )

might be a possibility. I can see those smarmy individuals greasing up to Eghbali with this deal.

Santos is ahead of him for me.

As I said in the Milan match thread his boots look like it’s filled with lead. His feet moves too slow.

He's a fantastic passer, probably one of the best in the league. That passing is best from deep and it takes him 3 touches to get the ball under control and far too easy to dribble past. Santos seems a much more well rounded player.

Maresca doesn't play him regardless, the last time Enzo was benched, he scored goals and made assists. He's been the player that gets results when his position is under threat or when he gets a sliver of opportunity after being benched.

His worst performances comes when he's in a relatively comfortable situation

He needs to be benched again until he brings out his best performance. Today Palace brought forth all the bad parts of his game.

Santos should start

Won’t be surprised to see Marseca move him to the “10” and shift Palmer to the right. He will try everything before dropping him.

He was awful today, I don’t think the tactics helped him but that’s no excuse. If he’s played higher up then it should be against teams who don’t pack the area, but when he did come short he miscontrolled balls that should have been easy for him. If he carries on playing I want to see what he can do with “traditional” full backs alongside Caicedo. Today he congested space that wasn’t there for palmer and just slowed the whole team dynamic and if he carries on like this then santos should be putting him on the bench.

We have all spent a year reading @nonotnowjim write about Jackson bring a fraud so repetitively that some have missed the fraud hiding in plain sight.

Every time I hear someone claim Enzo is a talented footballer I wonder if my fondness for gin and narcotics has finally caught up with me.

Underwhelming is about as positive as I can be about him. I used to say that any team relying on Jorginho would never challenge for top level trophies (not the WCC or lesser European trophy that we won- league title and CL) and i say the same about Enzo. He is a passenger.

True, although the speed we seem to play at, if he is a passenger his name is Miss Daisy.

Awful from him today. Once again the manager's in game management leaves a lot to be desired.

Not much wrong that a transfer to Real Madrid wouldn't fix for us ...

Nice to see I'm no longer alone banging that particular drum now anyway !

we’ve been banging it since day one, one day people will start to listen to us.
