It's not a case of the formation, there's no rigid structure with the formation it's flexible it's more of a case of personal and the traits of the players.

He could drop Colwill and play Chilwell at centre/left back but then you lose Colwills ability to break the lines with his passing. You could drop Silva and play Colwill more central but then you lose all that experience and personality on the pitch. Drop Disasi and play Silva out right but then you lose all that pace or Colwill but then you have a left footed player on the right.

Chilwell is currently captain, he's not getting dropped.

It's up to the manager to decide which personal is right for the games we have and he's probably just not confident in Mudryk to perform what's needed on a pitch from a tactical perspective.

Disasi is pretty slow. Not even sure he's quicker than 38 year old Silva. I've definetely seen him beaten for pace more often than Silva so far. Play Chilwell in the back 4, move Colwill to CB and play a proper winger. Problem solved.

You say that and I understand you have a point but the fact is that Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool and so on... nobody plays with 3 CBs, ok maybe Luton does so somethings gotta give.

Drop one of them, try with Colwill.

              Sanchez

Gusto T.Silva Disasi Chilwell

           Enzo Caicedo
Sterling  Gallagher  Maatsen

                Jackson

But City do play with a back 3 and 3 centrebacks.

In their treble winning season they pretty much lined up like this when they had possession which is 90% of the time.

-------- Ederson ------

--Walker - Dias - Ake---

----- Stones -- Rodri----

Silva - KDB - Gundogan - Grealish --

------ Haaland --------

When they don't have the ball Stones slots in and makes it a 4, he hasen't played a natural LB since Cancelo left.

True but since the start of this season they really haven't done this yet.

Watch a city game when they have the ball and check how many centre backs they have stretched across the back, it could become a 4 if Ederson decides to walk in and become a passing option.

Walker also pushes on which makes Silva come inside and Gvardiol tucks in to become a left side centre back. It's all situational. When they are high up the field with the ball passing it around they have 3 at the back.

City and Arsenal both play with at least 3 CB's in the starting 11?

Your problem if you count Kovacic or Rodri as a CB, not mine.

Man City since the start of the PL season:

4-2-3-1 with Aké-Akandji/Dias-Akandji/Aké-Dias/Akandji-Dias - CB pairing from match 1-4.

Arsenal:

4-3-3 with Saliba-White/Gabriel-Saliba CB pairing.

His argument though was that they are still playing with 3 CBs.

White, Saliba, Gabriel

Gvardiol, Dias, Akanji

You've completely missed the point, well done again. What's Kovacic or Rodri got to do with anything at all?

We play 4231 with 3 CB's.

City play 4231 with 3 CB's.

Arsenal play 433 with 3 CB's.
