Nicolas Jackson - striker

He is a decent squad player, but not good enough to lead the line. The shot at the end of that run where he was eventually given offside, was terrible. Looked like he hadn't kicked a ball before. His overall shooting is the weakest part of his game, technique, accuracy, and composure. You can tell he is a converted winger, so unnatural in front of goal.

Really hoping we get Osimhen, who misses a few for sure, as fo all top strikers, but for me Osimhen just leads the line better, real box presence, unreal in the air, and a strong personality too.

He isn't a decent squad player: Just look at the press and pundits with many super critical of him for his inability to d the basics, look at the match thread with so many fans exasperated by his ability to hinder us time and time again.

That is not squad player material.

One frustrating thing about quick players is why do they always steal with the defensive line. You have plenty of space to win the run anyway. Jackson should have never been offside when he scored.

Jackson has low footballing intelligence. There's definitely talent there, but he lacks basics that are taught in footballing schools to 7-8 year old kids. Beating an offside trap is something attackers learn in training on a regular basis and professional footballers do it automotically, without thinking because they've done it for years, it's like a learned reflex.

He had something like 35 games in La Liga before coming to England and before that it was some Senegalese team and lower divisions in Spain. Nico is stilll very raw and it remains to be seen whether he can develop his game to the point where he can actually deliver at the top level.

The problem is, we need someone who can deliver now.

He needs time, he has immense potential, but unfortunately he has no senior striker to learn from. nobody he can try to emulate in training. It will be a long slow process without the right guidance.  As to everyone banging on about offside, yesterdays example was just a smidge offside, and he actually finished it off very well. Yes it's frustrating, but it's not his fault that he's being asked to lead the line at too young an age and experience.

I like Jackson and still think he'll develop into a good striker in time.

It keeps getting said about his low football IQ though, i don't think that's it. I think he just has a low IQ in general.

He does have a low IQ... and he's not a striker he's a winger... not a bad winger either imho...

You could say similar thing about Nkunku... he's not a winger... he's a striker... and not a bad striker either imho...

So why play Nkunku on the wing and Jackson in the middle?

Beats me.

A player who starts games for our first team should not need to have a senior striker to copy/learn from in training. If he needs to learn and copy others, put him in the development squad.

I agree it's not his fault - but if you are not good enough, you are not good enough. And wacko is definitely not good enough.

He can't control, pass, shoot, head, stay onside, dribble, assist - at least not to a suitable standard. He should be nowhere near our first team.

Agreed, apart from the bit about him developing into a good striker. He won't. He is our very own Ballotelli.

i think Balo was just a petulant kid who couldnt handle fame and his own ego. Player wise he was A-class for the few times he decided to show his talent.

Yup. Never really grew up. Likeable lad, very popular wherever he went, but unrealised ability. Pity.

A football player who couldn't manage his own ego. That's unusual!!!

Good game today - Off and running with a goal and assist for his league campaign. Thought I'd bump his name up the boards and see how some react! 😉

He was awful as always. Kept losing the ball, can’t pass, can’t dribble, petulant, argumentative - and always a liability.

The ball hitting his head and a lucky flick of a flailing leg as he was falling down, do not change the fact that he was rubbish.

Cool... As you see it, I'll celebrate his goal and assist, both good plays, the 3 points, great attacking performance he was part of and look forward to the next game. Well done Jackson imo

I'll be honest and say I didn't see the game but he's scored again and had an assist.

He annoys the hell out of me with his stupid bookings but he got 19 goals last season. He does stupid things but he scores goals.

For now he will do and you never know he may even improve.  He's still young enough.

He's the closest thing we have to a centre forward until we land someone better. On balance I think we give him another season.

His hold up play and playing with his back to goal hes probably the best at these attributes.

Good header and assist, i dont see the hate for Jackson, hes overperformed on my expectations. If he hits 15-20 goals this season for his age is very good. Anything lower than 15 will be disappointing.

Took his goals really well, assist was a good touch too. Lost the ball.a lot, made wrong decisions when he had time as usual.
