Ball was dead In that case the ref should've done much better to indicate what he'd given. Everyone in the stadium was confused, commentators were confused, even the Brighton fans thought he'd awarded the penalty after the VAR review. Edited December 3, 20232 yr by Nick05

And we are still firmly in 10th so we need need to beat United & Everton to follow up here. Yeah but what will it take to make you happy? Apart, obviously, from someone else taking over ownership of the club from Clearlake and re-instating Tuchel as manager? I thought it was a fantastic performance. We were the more dangerous side before the sending off, and second half our players commitment, passion, fight and discipline was brilliant to see.

Undoubtedly needed the win today Just, and I think most of us including myself wrote the team off after the red card. So I'm bloody relieved and proud of the lads, looks like I was wrong about @Whats_The_Mata? he just nipped to the toilets, he won't be on here until next week.

December 3, 20232 yr Massive 2nd half, and big 3 points to keep us in touch with team ahead of us. I didnt see after 85th minute as had to pick my kids up, sounds like a typical Chelsea heart attack finish! Hoping we can get through a prolonged period with James, Nkunku etc playing week in week out.

Thanks for that. And agreed, no change, this time we won so it helps as was needed, but I don't believe Pochettino is the man to fix us. Let's see.
December 3, 20232 yr I’m going to drive down to Brighton right now and gloat! The fact I have tickets to see Rhys James (irony?) at The Dome is just coincidental.
December 3, 20232 yr Crazy game and I'm not quite sure how we managed to win. But kudos to the team for finding a way to win in the chaos. Robert Sanchez came up with some important saves the last 15 mins. I thought our penalty was correct, even if a little soft. Mudryk would have got to the ball first and Milner pushed him over. Had it been a shoulder barge I think it would have been ok but it was a clear push. The fact that he reviewed on the monitor and then gave the penalty confirmed that. Other than that I thought Pawson was awful. Yes Conor showed appalling discipline but Pawson had his card out there even before the play had stopped. It was an ill-advised challenge for a player on a yellow but not sure that constituted a yellow on its own. Also how the hell did he give that penalty at the end straight away without even looking at the linesman? Thankfully VAR showed the clear error in this case. Anyway big 3 points and nice to get a rare win at home 😉
December 3, 20232 yr And Son has scored at both ends in the Citeh game. Postacockloo looked like he was going to cry. It really is Super Sunday.

I can understand the yellow for Sanchez. we couldn't hold on to the ball upfield and he was just trying to use up the time. He did that one too many times. Agreed on the rest of the ill discipline. Caicedo was fortunate he didn't get another yellow, and we could have picked up more yellows for dissent and kicking ball away (Jackson in particular). Brighton were equally poor in that regard I thought.

A set style of play with progress over time would work. We are still all over the place, sometimes we want to be all possession and slow play from the back, sometimes we hoof it, occasionally we press but more often we sit deep and look to counter. Despite the two early goals I thought we were really poor before and after the sending off today against a really weakened Brighton side. If results shouldn't matter that much this season (like many are arguing) then this could be considered a step back because I thought Baleba & Gilmour ran the game all evening. But again, the 3 points were important and we should be happy with those but I didn't think we were good by any account. And if anything we are going backwards in terms of style of play and general control of games and thats not a great sign either.

Remains to be seen. Some fans are a little too overly jubilant atm with this hard fought win over Brighton/DeZerbi but in reality it was another performance where we shot ourselves in the foot due to our own complacency, naivety and lack of discipline. Could’ve been down to 9 men with 35 minutes to play. We need to see some cooler heads. This starts with Poch. Trying to fire up a team that's nice by essence but it usually results in that kind of avalanche of yellow cards. Coaching is going to be key in this period.

Pawson looked unsure of what he was doing since the ball hit Colwill till after the VAR check. Pawson gave the penalty initially. He pointed to the spot. That is why it took longer to overrule as VAR had to prove he was wrong. Still took too long for what was shown to be a clear error.

I thought the performance after the 2-0 lead was unacceptable, we were letting them back into the game. Sat deep, starting passing it about the defence (what we usually do when we get complacent) and everyone loses their intensity. Can't knock the fight we had in the 2nd half though, I was 100% sure we were going to lose that. Conor will always give it 100% which I won't fault him for but he made a silly challenge on a yellow that cost us the game. Delighted with the 3 points as we desperately need it as I'm not comfortable getting 3 points against a sh*te United, they always find a way to get a result against us that lot. One moment summed up Thiago for me. Mitoma had just left the otherwise solid Disasi for dust with a turn, and then Thiago calmly took the ball off his feet to remove the danger. He made it look so easy. Yes Thiago is human and made a horrible mistake last week. But he is still top class and we are lucky to have him. Edited December 3, 20232 yr by forbzy typo

Whatever decisions he made got us a Champions League, Top 4 and much more. You'd take that wouldn't you? I would. We'd also run over this Brighton side in any Tuchel season btw but thats beside the point I suppose.
