The scoreline flatters us.  We looked completely lost out there like a bunch of school kids watching the big boys having a kick around at our expense.   There was no shape to our play and as I have repeatedly stated Enzo and Caicedo are miles apart leaving a gaping hole in midfield which Liverpool comfortably sat in for 90 mins.  A disaster all over the pitch, defensively, midfield and a toothless attack all put together with a manager that is now certainly questionable.  I like many others wonder WTF do these players and coaches do all week because its Fred Kano's army on match day.   I think Potch has run out of ideas now.  He's tried different combinations of players and each time its been a shambles..Middlesborough 2nd game aside.

Today's performance was not because of injuries, it was one of lack of belief by the players that we could actually get something today; a lack of even the basic ball control and passing, no intensity, no desire and no understanding what the game plan was, even if there actually was one.  The defending has become worse, the midfield is shocking for the money that has been spent, and the forwards all season have been appalling to mediocre to bang average at best....and some players should not be anywhere near the first team dressing room. It's not that we were likely to get anything today but FFS show some effort and desire and the Manager needs to grow some balls and start laying into these lazy overpaid young men....men not kids, that stopped at 18, so the 'kids' stuff excuse ain't going to wash with the fans any longer.

Everything tonight stemmed from the CB pairing imo. Silva shouldn’t have been anywhere near a start tonight. The way they play does not suit him. Their  press left our defence too deep and too much space to the midfield.

Bada was stinking. His first few appearances showed promise but he’s nowhere near the level we need him to be. I’d fancy scoring if playing against him and I’m 52.

We desperately need someone up front. This false 9 gash doesn’t work.  I don’t understand why Washington doesn’t get more minutes. The little we’ve seen tells me he’s got as much potential as Broja or Jackson.

Lavia better be a player because the lack of protection Enzo and Caicedo provided was so poor. I get the feeling it will be Lavia and one of the other 2 because it’s not working with the two tonight.

Nkunku will do the business for us if we can keep him fit and Carney I think will be a regular starter.

Nkunku off the left, Palmer off the right and Carney as a 10.  An Osimhen or similar playing in front of those 3 makes us a much better prospect.

Mudryk will never win the Ballon D’or that’s for sure. If he was playing in the Championship a club like Brentford or Brighton might have picked him up for £25 million. He gives me the exact same vibe as Kepa did and not in a good way.

I’m a few malts in so apologies for the ramble. Just watched the highlights on MOTD (as if enduring the game live wasn’t bad enough) and I stand by everything I’ve said.

I Feckin hate the Scousers.

Silva, unfortunately is the only one that can steady the sinking ship at the back.  He see's and anticipates danger way before the youngsters do because of his years of experience, however his brain is faster than his legs and if we are completely honest he should have hung up his boots at this level a few years ago.  The back four this year was clearly destined to be James, Fofana, Colwill and Chillwell, with back ups of Gusto, Disais, Badashile, and Cucurella plus anyone else you want to add to the list, except that its all gone to rat sh*t with the injuries to James, Fofana, Chilwell, then injuries to Badashile and Cucurella and more recently Colwill , so who apart from Silva was going to be the glue to hold it together...because thank fkuc for Petrovic because if it wasn't for him and some resolute defending from Silva in recent games I doubt very much we would be mid-table...more like the relegation zone.

The rest of the line up has been a mish mash and band aid solutions of talented young players who still can't play as a team, and still find no heart, desire or passion because they've never had to face adversity of this kind in their playing careers...they've stepped up with the big boys now...and they are lost and so is the manager.

If this was the plan, then the problem is that 3 of the 4 you mention are continually injured and may never be reliable first team options. Gusto has done well and a case could be made for him to be the new number 1 RB if Reece is unable to get a chance of fortune. We will have to see what happens with Chilwell as he has only just returned. But it is not looking good for Fofana. I think we may have to look for a new first choice CB with prioritiy this summer. That is if we can afford one with the FFP mess.

I don't disagree...it's a cluster at the moment all over the pitch, from the goalkeeper to the centre forward but I don't think one CB is the answer.    This just might be one of those plans / projects at work, where you'd rip it up and start again despite the losses that you are going to take.   The problem the Board has though, is that apart from Palmer no one has lived up to their expectation, so if they were considering a rehash of the plan, the financial hit would be massive.  So perhaps the plan now is to get through the rest of the season and have a complete reset in the summer.  It's not like these players haven't been given a chance.  Those that have had long term injuries should be given another season, however the likes of Mudryk, Cucurella, Chalobah, Sterling, Jackson, Broja need to be moved on in addition to those youngsters on loan that are simply not performing; in addition you can add the likes of Fofana, because he will never be fit enough to play for CFC and dare I say it even James, if he can't put more than 5 games together when he returns.

You want to talk about high levels of management? Here's one.

Instead of complaining about injuries, Klopp focuses to work with what he has. Elite coaching. Liverpool spent all summer competing with us for Lavia and Caicedo, ended up getting neither and panicked bought Endo for £15m. They didn't even need Endo and their midfield still tore ours apart. This isn't even considering Salah, TAA, and Robertson weren't playing.

I swear we are the only big team in Europe that doesn't implement patterns of play.

To be brutally honest we have yet to sign a CB that has shown to be an improvement on Chalobah. Harsh on Fofana admittedly, but their a big question mark on when he will return and whether he will be anywhere near the same player. If Chalobah is close to a return to fitness, I would trust him more than the other options. Sadly though he will be most likely to be sold in this case, because he would amount to 100% profit.

A few seasons back, when Klopp had significant injuries (but to a far lesser extent than we have now) he lost 6 consecutive home games ... elite coaching indeed !

And Liverpool still managed to finish 3rd.

Yes - they had a good finish when they got their players back, but the point still stands.

There isn't a manager on the planet that can win games consistently with a huge injury list.

No, the point is actually good managers get through difficult periods. You can spin it any way you like. Liverpool have 2 of their most crucial players out injured, a CB playing LB and a 20 year old playing RB and took the absolute piss out of us. We had Reece James and Jackson at Old Trafford with the same squad, still looked utterly pitiful.

I am so done with the injuries excuse.

The point is Klopp had a few players out and lost 6 home games (at fortress Anfield) in a row ...  it isn't "spin" ... it happened ... to Klopp .... anyway you carry on down your manager bashing path if it makes you feel better !

And he still managed to get them through it? You are so fixated on 6 games when their whole season was in turmoil after Van Dijk's and Matips injuries yet Klopps coaching still had them finish 3rd.

Here's a question. Explain to me how our midfield (which is arguably the highlight of our squad talent wise) has been fit and playing together all 7 months yet still look clueless playing with one another, and is an utter liability in both build up and defensive transition?

That's a good question, and I have a few thoughts on that, but I don't think this thread is the right place for it. I'll see if I can find a suitable thread to resurrect that will be a better platform for some debate on the midfield :-)

That is unbelievably bad and inexcusable behaviour by our players and staff.  I really felt for that kid just left standing there wondering what the heck he should do. ☹️

Yes that was a bad show. The club should make amends to him for doing that. Mind you I reckon that by standing there wondering what to do he was ironically imitating his heroes.

Two positives

Nkunku looks a good attacker

Secondly Poch knows in the final he has to up his game.

Negatives too many to mention.

Jotas goal was a bit fortunate as the ball ricocheted off his chest reminded me of Luca V in the snow in Norway.

He knew this at Tottenham and PSG too, still failed though. The guy just isn't a good enough coach.

Chelsea were warned  after the Liverpool match  for fielding a ladies team

Var did look closely during the match and although there was no balls on show  they said it was not enough evidence to abandon the match

Our women’s team wouldn’t have been as bad as that. They’d probably have won.

but who is ...same old managers season after season looking for teams to manage .they are always availiable cause they all fail and get sacked. so whats the answer.
