Every transfer rumour you see is linking us to a North of  £50m move for some 20 year old or another.  Daft for two reasons

1. We've already done it too many times and it, far more often than not, has failed us.

2. We are financial hole so saggy you could throw the Daily Mirror at it and call it Wayne Rooney's latest conquest, and we've already cashed in on our most sellable assets (bless those hotels)

So we aren't buying our way out of this mess of a squad. At least not in a big way. There is no big money striker, centre half, left back, left winger, or holding midfielder coming in.

We have enough players coming back from injury and loan to keep Annabel Chong happy (I know you didn't have to Google that @Mod) but very few of them have the prospect of making a material difference if, and it's a big if, they can stay fit.

And we will ship some players this summer but I can't see us finding buyers for the likes of Jackson, Mudryk, Sterling, Broja, Cucurella, Disasi or Badiashille, let alone a number of the other dead wood returning from loans. I wouldn't be adverse to selling Caciedo either but that will be too big a loss to take.

However we can't go into next season with this squad unchanged. It needs more balance, it needs an injection of consistency and needs a f**k load more experience. We will be losing Silva which means the only experienced head we have is Sterling and I wouldn't rely on him to find his way to the shops without missing four turns on the way.

So, like a man looking for a Heaven 17 album, we may well be shopping in the bargain basement. Possibly free transfers or cheaper deals for a player or two wrong side of 30 on a contract with only a year or so to go but who can bring something we desperately neeed.

My first shout is to go right at the top of the old as f**k tree and consider Luka Modric. Even at 38 he would bring more to our team than Caciedo and Enzo are just now.  Free transfer, one year deal.

My second (but instead of Modric, not as well as) would be Koke. We would get a few more years out of him than Modric

I'm absolutely certain we sign any "proven player" in midfield for cheap, they flop. It's happened time and time again.

Thiago Silva is the exception.

Benjamin Sesko

Artem Dovbyk or Santiago Gimenez

Ousmane Diomande

Nico Williams

An aging CB to replace Thiago but can still be a mentor to youngsters (would have said Alaba but he is coming back from an ACL at 31)

IN

Lukaku (loan return)
Lacazette (free)
Chambers (free)

OUT

Chalobah (Bayern Munich, £35m)
Gallagher (Tottenham, £50m)
James (Real Madrid, £60m)
Colwill (Liverpool, £55m)
Gilchrist (Millwall, £5m)
Cucurella (Real Oviedo, £1.50)
Mudryk (Borussia Dortmund, loan)
Madueke (Crystal Palace, loan)
Boehly (defenestrated)

I don't think he's ever really been a brilliant "goalkeeper " in the normal sense of the word, just fit perfectly into a City team that let barely any shots on goal but need a keeper who can distribute.

REALLY?

do we really need to sign 4 players like the media are claiming?

looks like we are signing a CB, meaning Chalobah and hopefully one of Badiashile or Disasi will go

i dont think we need a midfielder, even if Gallagher goes

if we sign a keeper then Sanchez will go

only a CF to replace Broja who will go

Just picking up on some random bits and pieces. Permanent transfers out

Kepa 75%

Chalobah  75%

Mattesen  95%

Badiaschile  60%

Gallagher 30%

Lukaku 90%

Broja 75%

Hutchinson 50%

Fofoana D 75%

Sterling 50%

There are other s such as Colwill and Chilwell but just nothing of note in terms of rumours

It took me a minute to figure out Mattesen must be Maatsen, I first thought it was some obscure Danish teenager who had escaped my attention among the gazillion players we signed the past 18 months  :laugh2:

We've still got Ziyech on our books, surely a taker can be found for him?

There's a thread for him on here...tbh I wouldn't look at the numbers and stats too much. Bundesliga and Premier league are completely different but I agree with the above. At that price he could be what we need to push Jackson. I forgot how old he is though...but might be good.

With Ziyech added.

Imo, I would definitely keep chalobah, Gallagher and sterling. Hutch would be sold only for a really high price, if not then keep and see how he develops next year as he's on the right path and making all the right noises atm.

Foffana...is he definitely out! Will he ever play or will he forever be injured?

Galatasaray has activated the €2.5m clause to make his loan a permanent one.

Excellent news. We're not getting rich from that fee, but at least he's out the door permanently.
